      I always use swivels nothing wrong with them . I find that I can change lures without wasting line and doing uni knot straight to the jig head is not preferred then I simple loop knot will be better having the same action and more realistic I think as a swivel 🤙🏼🎣

    Great video for people starting there journey into fishing, well worth learning a few good knots , like the FG knot, as some rod guides are so small you need that smaller knot to passed through the guides of high end rods, i spent 3 months practicing my knots before I even started fishing with lures and plastics, and if your not confident in the knot you have, you can lose the fish of a lifetime, like i did, great video champion,

    • @markrigg6623
      @markrigg6623 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch those rods with micro guides. They restrict casting distance. Any good casting rod will comfortably pass a double uni with 8lb leader. Fgs are designed for when there's a very great difference in diameters going from braid to fairly heavy leader. Same as what an albrignt knot was designed for. You're just making life more difficult than it needs to be when you're using it with light leader.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Anthony! You're well past the beginner stage so you have found better knots and encountered higher level issues. I went through a few knot issue phases and arrived at the FG knot too but I can tie it out fishing standing up in water if I need be haha. Also forced into it through losing fish haha.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markrigg6623 Yep love the uni knot and the double uni Mark! Super reliable and one of the easiest learning curves especially considering how the leader knot is where beginners begin to feel out of their depth, can be solved with this simple knot.

    Hi Shroom, great beginners video mate. I myself like to use the modified Albright knot & lubricate before pulling the lines together. As for the jighead I use a lefty’s loop knot to allow the soft plastic to swim freely as apposed to the knot being direct on the jighead. A fisho I met showed me this & have never had a bust off at the knot!

    Love the video. Definitely like the how-to videos. Something l always get confused about is the size weight of the jighead. I like to fish in the middle harbour using soft plastics where the depth is around 10m - 15m. What size weight should l be using for this depth of water and is there a guide for the weight that should be used depending on how deep the water?

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks as always Mohammad! If enough people keep asking me I eventually do the video just like this one haha. I know Middle Harbour relatively well so I find if you are fishing edges which can be deep, then I'd be using 1/8oz jigheads. It's slow flowing around the edges so that can work unless you fish right up against the bank and pontoons of people's houses then I'd be using about a 1/12oz. If you're fishing for kingfish in deeper water in the channels then I'd use up to a 1/2oz with a medium/large plastic or a 1/4oz if working nearer the surface

      I might address it further in the future in a full length video but most definitely in a short at some stage. It's difficult and related to experience. • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eddie, it's very important because the braid has low abrasion resistance, near zero stretch and high visibility to the fish. A leader addresses each of those concerns. You don't need fluorocarbon line however, cheap monofilament does suffice

    I would respectfully submit that one of the purposes of the leader is to create a Built In Point Of Failure in the line.
    The Leader should be the weakest part of the configuration, and you can assume the knot wil be stronger than the line its self, so if you do have to break off, you just have to add another leader and hook...

    Would 6lb handle a 50cm+ flathead? Or maybe go 8lb or 10lb, what would you recommend?
    Also…. When doing the double hope .. I feel that I can do it so much better with my right hand… does this mean is best to have my spinning reel handle on the left? I always thought spinning real on right because I’m right handed 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jeri! If you're targeting flathead, especially big ones then I'd go heavier to have a better chance at that trophy but plenty of flatties get landed on 6lb and under in favourable hookup conditions. Yes swap them around, I fish both hands and there's no hard and fast rule it must be done with a rod in the left hand. Go right and you'll get improve results instantly

    • @waymouth7
      @waymouth7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not shroom (obviously) but braid is used because it doesn't stretch like mono or fluro. Paired with a graphite rod, you feel everything which is vital to soft plastic fishing. It will assist you knowing when your lure is on the bottom (visually with the colour of the braid and feel) and transfers bites that you may miss on a straight fluro/mono leader. A leader (mono) is still used as it assists with presentation due to fish having generally good eyesight and with some species this can be the difference between getting hits or not. Long story short, I haven't heard of anyone using straight mono but I can vouch for the benefit of braid as your main line with a mono/fluro leader.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. You sacrifice a lot of bite detection and castability but it can be done. I recommend moving onto braid, it has a lot of advantages and not many disadvantages

    🤣 I get confused when you talk about rods as the rating system is different here in the UK, we go by casting weight. For example my HTO Rockfish UL is rated 3-12gr. Remember to lubricate your knots before pulling them tight, the friction heat from pulling them dry can cause weakness in the line. When I switched from mono to braid I had to learn new knots. I used to use the double uni for connecting mainline to leader but the amount of problems I had with braid cutting the mono was unbelievable. I learned how to tie the Albright knot and I've never looked back.

      Braid cutting the leader? Can you please tell me more I use the double uni but when I break off at a snag I always lose the leader. Is it the braid cutting the leader? And my 1-3kg rod is a 5g cast weight if that helps

      google says to save cutting expensive braid when changing hooks etc

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short Alex, the braid is visible to the fish (opaque), has low abrasion resistance (so can snap the lightest cut even if it's supposed to be strong) and has near-zero stretch (so hooked fish can pull hooks easily). A clear section of line (i.e., leader) addresses all these issues at the price of needing to be tied on with a specialist knot (leader knot)

    Just out of curiousity when your lifting the rod and winding in the slack, how much do you wind in is it a few turns?
    Also after I hop the plastic I find it hard to tell when it's on the bottom, I'm thinking that is because I have too much slack?

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a few turns. You can quickly wind the slack until you are sure the lure is moving with the wind and abruptly stop. That should help see the slack when it comes in. Whether you wind in all the slack or a bit of it only, both have their pros and cons so it's not necessary to wind in tight every time
