Best video I’ve seen in ages I have had so much struggle fishing for flathead this has given me a whole new direction I’ve only been fishing for about 7 months and hooked 👍 I fish in Jacob’s well qld if you have ever fished there would like to know what your plan off attack was or would be
Hey @nathanmitchell9243, we're stoked that you enjoyed the vid and awesome to hear that you're on the plastics. Are you land-based fishing Jacob's Well? I would look for deep edges on the higher stages of the tide and fish ZMan 3" MinnowZ on 3/8oz 3/0 HeadlockZ HD jigheads, or wade along the front of mangrove edges in shallower water fishing a 1/4oz 3/0. Otherwise the prime stages of the tide are the last of the run out and start of the run in, walking the channel edges and focussing on drains, weed edges and areas holding bait. I would go the 1/4oz again, unless the water is 3m plus or the current pumping, then go 3/8oz. Grab the Electric Chicken for the lower stages of the tide when the water is dirty, and Opening Night for the higher stages of the tide if the water is clean. Mix up your retrieve and over time you will start to crack some patterns. Hope you get stuck into a few soon. Cheers, Justin
Great video. I have been chasing flathead with my 3000 reel with 10lb leader and had a lot of big success in Brisbane. But I am now extremely struggled to catch one as I switched to my baitcaster reel with 10g as the minimum cast weight using 30lb line all landbased. Is it because my lures are too big? Or it’s because the line is too heavy? Thanks
Hey @liuleo2334, Hope all's well and you're finding a fish. The spin combo is perfect for targeting flathead, especially if you are casting lighter presentations and covering plenty of water with long casts. Baitcast gear is often preferred for casting larger / heavier presentations, specifically for targeting trophy flathead, however you definitely cut back on the number of fish and the by-catch that you will catch. You may find that changing to 20lb braid will improve your casting distance and the working of the lure on the baitcast gear, which may get you more bites. Target areas where big flathead should be holding with the larger lures, or make sure that you are covering water. Smaller presentations will definitely catch you more fish, so it depends on what your focus is. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
Hey @leewood509, We have a comprehensive range of tools available that you can view at - tackletactics.com.au/TT-Fishing/TT-Fishing-Tools. These can be ordered from your local tackle store using the part number on the website or you will also find some stores stocking them in-store or online. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
Hey, if I use 1/8 i can feel my Jigheads is dragging across the bottom, I do not get this when I use 1/16 but I lose some casting distance. in your experience is dragging along the bottom normal for flathead fishing?
Hey @8dison, If flatties are your target you are definitely better being on or near the bottom rather than too high up in the water column. The 1/8oz will allow you to cover more water and you can use lifts of the rod tip to hop the plastic up off the bottom, or shake and twitch it as you wind it to keep it up, with the odd pause thrown in, keeping it above weed and snaggy structure. Bumping the bottom stirs the bottom up and often creates more interest from the fish. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
Hey @robwalker2217, Thankfully not too many donuts or the job would be pretty tough ;) Hope all's well and you're finding a fish. Absolutely love scent, especially if the bite is tough, and I have had times when the bites are timid or not happening, add scent and fish on! Over the years I have tried every scent out there and my go-to is Pro-Cure Super Gel as it combines science (powerful amino acids, bite stimulants, UV enhancements) and real ground bait, sticks on well and it works - tackletactics.com.au/Pro-Cure. I will apply a little either side of the head of the lure and smear it right down to the tail, applying every 30 or so casts. Being gel based it stays on well, so a tube lasts for ages. My go-to flavours are Mullet and Pilchard... but there are a heap of flavours available to match your target species and the presentation that you are using. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
@@johnkeynes8873 Thanks for the kind words and great to hear you found the video informative. Nice to hear you shouted yourself a Sling Bag and I hope you get stuck into a few soon. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

Hey @menasouvlaki3595, thanks for the comment. I was trying to do an overview of the gear before we got started, but feedback taken... will spread the gear talk out in future vids. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
Hey @antonb8422, The bag is a ripper... I think the angler (me) is a bit awkward ;) Loads of these bags have gone out and people are loving them. We have had great feedback from people all over the country, fresh and salt, so I'll take the hit on the awkward part ;). All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin
