Great review. These are my daily headphones amid many others on my wall. To add, if anyone is interested. As sure as Beni was on the wrong side of the river, these are in my opinion the best headphones for gaming. Impeccable imaging and a wide soundstage. I feel I never miss a sound and very comfortable for long playthroughs. I use the 32 ohm mostly for gaming and my 80ohms from the late 80's for music. Built like a tank.
Indeed they're great. I also have the DT-990 pros as well. The only other cans I have in the same accuracy ballpark are my Sennheiser HD650s, which are also very comfortable (and very more money).
Oh yes. Those HD650s are awesome. My main headphones for mixing are the Sony 7506s. I’ve gotten so used to them over the years that I can’t change them. I recently found out that mixing legend Andrew Scheps also mixes on the 7506s. They can’t be that bad at all.
@@TheRecordist I worked at CBC Radio for more than 20 years, and the 7506s were the staple. I have several pairs still, and use them for field recording because they fold up nicely. I just find that they're not very comfortable for me to wear for long periods of time, although replacing the stock earpads with cushier ones helps!
@@SecretSoundDesign oh yes! I’m about to replace my own pads. Haha. I’ll see how much better they feel when I do. That leather (pleather?) covered padding wears out quick. You worked for the CBC? That’s awesome! I love the CBC! It was the only channel ever on in my house growing up the 70s/80s! You should find me on BlueSky. I’m @TheRecordist.bsky.social I think. That is, if you’re on that app. I’ll add you to my starter pack of audio professionals!
Listening to your channel on modified 32ohm version - Replaced cable with jack port to have different cable length or one with attached microphone for video calls. I also have 80ohn and I can confirm that are more comfortable, because they have less pressure to your head. They are compensating with this to "sound the same" 🙂
Rick, So now you want us to take your word on these? Jeeez, what next?🤣 $169.00 not too bad at all for ear pillows...thanks for the tip on autoeq!😊 I've been using Sony MDR 7506's for tracking and they have not been satisfied with the isolation, might have to check the 770's PS. I never before had an uncle Bob, thanks for giving me one.
Hahahaha. You know it! But I totally agree. How often are you hearing the damn click track in the mic? I’m always hearing it. Other than that, I’m still using my Sonys for the bulk of my work. I just know them very very well.
@@TheRecordist Like you, my Sony’s have been my studio work horse but, I went nuts and got a pair of Audeze MM-500’s. Now I’ve shifted to doing most of my mixing on them and use my monitors as a second reference
I've been using Audio Technica headphones for many years and really liked the ATM-H50 but eventually got fed up with having the leatherette on the headband and ear pads disintegrate every few years into zillions of little back specks that would mess up the place. Both were available as spares but changing the headband was a major PITA. A few years ago, I got myself a Beyerdynamic Headzone Pro XT (headphone amp with built-in 5-channel HRTF processor) that came with a DT770 Pro and a DT880 Pro. I've never looked back. My preference clearly is the semi-open DT880 Pro. I don't really like closed cans, and fortunately I don't need them, but the 770 is a great choice for people who do.
Hey I recognise you from The Mummy! I'm going back and forth between buying these and the HD560s I'm leaning towards the Sennheisers. Thanks for the headphone correction tips thats awesome and is my favourite price!
I have both of these and you can't go wrong with either. Pick HD560s if you want openback and the 770's if you want closed back. I will say that the DT 770's will be with you a lot longer than the 560's.
I own the 600 ohm 770s and have owned a more modern 80 ohm in the past. they are pretty great just super unforgiving I love using them for finding recording issues but as a open back enjoyer I almost never use them unfortunately.
I use the DT770 Pro 250 Ohm version to check my mixes for that crispy high end and the low bass. I don't have any problem getting plenty of volume with an Audient ID14 interface...
got a pair of Senn HD 600 and that was a MISTAKE for live booth stuff. Open ear headphones. Great for mixing though! These close ears I've been eyeing at my local sound store for awhile and your review has tipped me into nabbing em. When I have the cash haha.
Woo hoo! They’re great for isolation. And they sound great! I don’t know, I just try stuff and make videos about them. Haha. I really try to find great stuff. No one wants to watch crappy gear. But these are a good purchase whenever you can afford them. Cheers!
Ahhh... too bad for me, but I have two earphone hooks loaded with two headphones each already (the Sony 7506, Austrian Audio HX-15, Rode NTH 100 and a cheap Shure pair I got free from B&H) and I know that if I buy another pair they'd fall off from one of the hooks and onto the floor. However, FED-EX just delivered my Roswell K87! Can't wait to give it a whirl! And when ordering, I let Roswell know I am buying it after watching your video (same with STAM, which is shipping in October). So, my audio locker thanks you and I thank you!
Hahahaha. Oh man! The K87 arrived! So awesome! You absolutely MUST tell me how you like it! The Stam is going to be one of those awesome mics full of character. So good! Thanks for letting them know you bought the products because of my videos! Appreciated, man!
Ok, this might be back to back videos where I make a comment regarding the newest beginnings of the measuring tape, but I cannot help it as Jumanji might have been my favorite movie growing up lol. Not sure who had it worse, Alan Parrish or Carl “Soleman” Bentley 🤔… anywho, good find in that New Hampshire suburb! 😂
Do I see a k87 top left? I use to monitor and mix on Beyer's 20 years ago. DT150 I think. Bought them after seeing photos of Paul Weller using them at Abbey Road, Ithink it was.
Loved my 32 ohm DT 770 Pro’s but switched to Neumann NDH-20’s for their utter neutral sound. Turns out they are so neutral that everything sounded awful through them. I got the NDH-20’s and a Lauten Audio LS-208 mic at the same time and HATED the sound of that mic. So dull and lifeless. I randomly tried an old set of Bose QC 35’s I had buried in a box of junk and that mic sounded amazing! WTH? I’d sold my DT 770’s and decided to try the DT 700 Pro X’s and I’m never taking them off. Even better than my old DT 770’s.
Since you are a fellow nerd I’m going to give you an Actually… post here. You can measure headphones pretty easily and take audio samples. You just need binaural microphones. You can put the headphones on and capture the sound as if it’s going into your own ears. You can also get a mannequin head type rig to capture if you’d rather do it that way! I use a set that’s been discontinued by sennheiser called the ambeo which plugs straight into an iPhone that is super cool. Alas, they never caught on. But other options are out there on the market. Good for comparing the sound between two different headphones as you would on a mic review. Thanks for the review! I have these as well, but mine are modded to accept an external cable which I love. I also have the 80 ohm version and agree you get a great balance with them, you can use them on a phone if you want to. But they do sound best on an amp with some power.
Hey! Thanks for the comment! I actually do own a couple of pairs of binaural mics. And I have tried them to test headphones. The result was awful. You can hear the results when I reviewed the Shure headphones some months back. While you can clearly hear the differences between the three I tested, the sound was very ugly. Thanks for the tip!

Hmm. Well, any interface will push them, but they’d just be quieter. Easily rectified with a headphone amp. I just bought one for $30 off of Amazon to use in my VO booth.
