Knowing that Chet and I are close to the same age, I wonder if he ever saw National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. He needs some of that industrial lubricant for those dunes 😂
My mom and her family moved from Juarez, Mexico to Monahans in 1988 (My mom was 9 years old). That’s where she graduated high school in 1998. She worked as a manager at McDonald’s when she was younger. My grandparents and some of my family from my mom’s side live in Monahans and we go on weekends to see them.
I live here! I just wanna let you know, it’s not really hard to get lost. If you travel further, there’s a fence at the end. Also, their spinach dip at Jazz Cafe is the best. Rip Jazz cafe. One more thing, GO LOBOES!!!
Hello to your sweet Mom!! Just thought I'd check out were my dad's cousin moved to waay back in the 50's. He moved from central IL to Monahans TX. Last name was Blakeman, and I believe he taught high school?
85 yr old dad was pumping his foot to the sounds of Roy coming from satellite TV. This was unusual for him, so I said; "you like Roy." He rejoined, you bet. I have seen him many times. I was shocked because he never ventured from the home after the advent of TV. I reasoned the dementia was worsening. Where, I asked. He came back with: Kermit Coffee House, Wink, and an old barn in JAL NM. I said dad your talking about the man with the dark glasses who is a world wide star. In fact he sold more records in Europe than the states. Yes son Roy Orbison and the Westerners were always playing for us when you were a newborn. Raising his voice, he exclaimed, Roy was from Wink. Wow I mused dad is really losing it. I have been to wink in the 60's. I had seen a lot of tin barns and sand. He thinks Roy came from there-- wow. This is serious.
Aww, the Kermit Sand Dunes, where I first learned to shoot. Lots of good memories out there, especially since Uncle Jimmy ran the Dune Buggy shop in town.
In the early 1900s they found a wagon train buried in the sand dunes. Forty wagons burned out. Besy they can figure they were settlers headed back east and were slaughtered by the Comanche. No one knows why they were out there. They were way, way off any established trails.
Pappy's Not even close! BEST IN WEST TX is in ODESSA! Jack Jordan's BBQ, on JBS Parkway and Oakwood in ODESSA! Gotta Try it with "OLD SCHOOL" Tell them you want OLD SCHOOL!
Pappy's is closed as is Jazz Cafe. Wink sink or Kermit Krater is not natural... It's caused from removing oil and a form of fracking. So much info wrong here. Can't make it thru whole video. Sorry
Gotta say, I lived and worked in Monahans, Wink, Kermit, and a number of the big town near to there (Pecos, Odessa, and Midland), and I don't take it lightly. These towns are proud, if not troubled by a number of problems. That said, they're filled with good people who are committed to their families and to the rule of law. Anyone who says otherwise is unfamiliar with those communities, and aimed at spreading a false view of that life and the lives of those who have been and lived there. If you believe Donald Trump has any interest in improving your life, or the lives of your family and community, you are desperately misgiven. He is a desperate, immoral man that only aims to claim public office so as to avoid jail sentences for crimes that he has most definitely committed. In Texas we hold people accountable for the choices they make, including those that are uncomfortable for us individually. We admit when we're wrong, and we stick to our guns when we're right. Trump tried to overthrow democratic processes of the United States of America in the last election as he was almost certainly working for the Russian government at the time, as he is now. He hid and conspired to distribute Top Secret US Military Intelligence, and he has on numerous occasions praised dictators and despots from around the world. There is no sensible or defensible reason to support him in any compacity. Donald Trump belongs in jail, as do those who have knowingly aided and/or abetted his innumerable crimes. God Bless the US, and God Bless Texas.
It’s true. Guy Clark was raised in Monahans. And Roy Orbison was a local from Wink, which is not far from Monahans, and when he was younger would play a lot around that Texas area. The late golfer, Kathy Whitworth, was born in Monahans.
Born and raised in Monahans! Was a great place to grow up! Go Loboes!! Rick H
We living in the same Monahans?

I work in monahans sometimes but the drive south really sucks! I travel from hobbs nm to there and the oil field traffic is deadly.

of all the towns you hit in west texas you missed Fort Stockton.
18:12 Pure Texas….!👍🤠
I'm thinking that's near Pecos.
You should do a episode about the coyote store in Gail TX if you haven’t already
That snake was scary 😨

They are now closed to the public, -it was a private park. There is still Monohans Dunes State Park nearby but it's not the same.
Friend of mine daughter and husband live next to the park.
I believe the Kermit sand hills are closed already also sadly
Not hating on Poppys, but if you in West Texas and don't stop at Pody's in Pecos wow your missing out, best bbq between El Paso and Austin
I LIVE HERE!!
Wao wishes ❤

Get the towel off your head before real Texas sends you back to… Leadville. No, nevermind. You get it.
