After driving from Vancouver BC on a motorcycle we came upon Coopers as our Texas BBQ baptism. It rocks! delicious! We came back 5 months later and were treated to their "crawfish festival" holy cow this was an amazing treat. If you are in Llano at the end of April please visit the festival.
Cooper’s was fantastic 15 years ago. They sold it and it’s very average now. Much better BBQ in Central Texas around Luling and Lockhart: Luling City Market, Smitty’s, Black’s, and Kreuz’s
The brisket there can be a bit too salty on any given day. Catch it just right and it is great. Everything else they have is pretty good. Beef ribs are fantastic. Enjoy!!
The llano airport has a blue van provided by Coopers to drive for BBQ, if the van is gone just wait for it to return by waiting in the many porch rocking chairs!
I hope things have changed some. My folks retired there when my dad left the Navy as a officer. We are from Austin. I spent my senior year there. They were not welcoming to me as brown woman. They called the only half black dude their the “N” word and thought it was funny. I got suspended for calling the principal (Dennis Hill the superintendent now)a racist when I asked why we did not have MLK day off. He replied with @we ain’t got no black people”. I told him it was beside the point and racist. He gave detention. Then he asked if I wanted him to call my mom. I told him “go ahead”, “she would be proud of me”…. I got more time ! My folks were the only Hispanics with a education. Doesn’t make us better at all. However, I es arrested like I was less than. There are good people in Llano. It was a hard time for me as a 17 year old though. I would like to think that I would be able to handle it better now and try to make a change still. Not by being grossed out. By trying to connect more. It was hard on me.

Just drove the Willow Loop, then ate at Cooper’s and drove over to Blue Bonnet Cafe for pie afterwards! It was the perfect Texas day!

Currently living in SC and trust me, I'd love a salty TX brisket right now!
I always get a half a chicken and some brisket cut up into chunks and put in a cup to snack on the way home when im passing thru, the sauce is gold!!!
You don't have to go to Alaska to see bald eagles in Washington you can see flocks of them. Cool episode Chet!!
Longhorn Caverns is right there by Lake Buchanan. Maybe you can do trips to caverns in the state.
As a Texas that's eaten BBQ all across the state, Cooper's is a big let down. Much better BBQ in the Luling. and Lockhart BBQ restaurants.
Gotta love Cooper's!!

Coming all rhe way from Europe to Texas in July. What am i supposed to pay for a portion of BBQ like that? Have no Idea. Thanks!
It is expensive, about $60 dollars but that portion was for 3 people. Coopers is the best in my opinion.
@@Maverick80Eight thank you for your kind reply!

Saw no people of color a couple weeks ago, a shop owner when asked said “this is a white town” I thought: really. A little lost in time
Yeah, you should probably stay in California.
Maybe you should check out South Africa
@@jamesbueker11 Yes, lots of white people being killed there, so I can definitely see the similarities ...
@@jamesbueker11 So, I should go to SA because they are killing white people there?
Coopers is one of my favorite BBQ.
