- EU4 cilli is a relatively unknown nation. Despite this, it's actually a really underrated start that presents a unique way of playing EU4 - definitely one of the fun things to do in EU4. I'd go as far to call it one of the top 10 most fun nations in EU4. Right off the bat, you can become the emperor of the HRE and usurp EU4 Austria's imperial crown. In this case, I allied the Ottomans. Prepare for memes.

When this hapened we controled nearly all the parts of nowdays slovenia, south of austria, a bit of croatian coastline, part of hungary.

The most bizarre thing about this video is the fact that it’s a social streamers video where the AI doesn’t do anything absolutely insane. You should also try out the new exploit *ahem* I mean game feature that allows you to spend 90 favors to get your heir on a foreign throne, you can basically just PU any nation without an heir by requesting your own dynasty and waiting for the current ruler to die, you could probably find a way to make a very interesting video out of that
Did a game as Byzantium where I managed to PU both a unified Spain and a full-strength France doing this. Was one of the best games I've ever had.
I’ve been using this it is pretty solid but sometimes hard to land
@@kriptic5016 usually for me when the previous ruler dies and the heir of your dynasty takes the throne he doesn’t have an heir of his own, so I break the alliance as soon as I can get my heir on the throne and simply wait for the previous ruler to die. I recently got a weird bug where a consort regent is still governing Austria when the heir is 25 years old so idk what happened there though
@@daddytito917 You can delay the end of regency with the latest expansion. That was probably what was happening with 25 year old heir.

While trying to PU Portugal with favors, I inherited Aragon. THEN I put an heir on Portugal's throne and claimed it.
I've NEVER had such an easy game. It's amazing how easy it is when you control all those armies. :)
TBF Cilli should have had a unique mission tree. From forcing a PU over Bosnia and Hungary, like it was historically possible to claiming all of Austria and focusing on HRE. And actually have a formable nation of either Carniola/Krainska/Carantania, different names for the same place. The idea of "Slovenia" didn't exist quite yet at the time.

funnily enough there was a dev diary for Emperor update that advertised and showed a Cilli mission tree, but it was never actually included in the game
@@fernand1267 Sort of gives credence about someone at Paradox having a hate boner about Slovenia. From taking so long to include this nation, to only giving them one province and tying up an achievement to it that forces you to change culture to do it. And many.. many ..other things in other games(CK2&3, HoI4) that I won't list here.

I played Cilli because it was one of the few Balkan nations I haven't played. Overtook the HRE in the start and got milan and burgundy inheretence. Sadly my dynasty died out so I lost the throne but with Valois PU'd France and Portugal. My last run from a month ago.

This 70% is not subscribed thing must be somewhat specific to EU4/Paradox YT channels. I think I've seen it on several Paradox youtubers' videos but never on any unrelated channel. I wonder who started with it...
In my opinion a future update to EU4 should include the ability for a country to become regent of another country instead of that country having a regency council. Cilli should get a unique focus tree as well in that update and it should get bonuses to forcing other countries to transfer their regency to Cilli, as was historically done with Hungary.
You had a great chance to use cilli as a pun with in the first 20 seconds of the video to call your views "Cilli" after saying you might think there is nothing to do as them .

they did exist... but nobody called them Cilli, that is an english endonym, they were the Counts of Celje (Celjski grofi).

Playing my first successful game as Byzantium right now. Had to Solo the Ottomans for the first 2 Wars, somehow didn't go Bankrupt and it wasn't really that hard in the end, but it was hella-intimidating! it's Year 1600ish and I have a PU over Spain, which I did try for, then Austria lost the HRE to Bohemia and their ruler died within a few Months and I have a PU on them too. And the way Russian rulers are dying I'll probably end up owning them too. Spain is handling mega-colonization for me and growing us nicely- I indirectly own 3 Colonies that I can't see on the World Map yet, which I find a bit funny. The game is so easy now that I don't think I'll ever finish it, I'm bigger than the next 5 Great Powers combined at around 3500ish Development- I think I could go for a World Conquest with this one if I wanted to. Even if I had been optimistic in the beginning I didn't think being this big was possible (for my skill level). I think maybe I'm not bad at the game anymore- I'm okay now. I don't know that I'll ever be gud at it, I need a few thousand more hours for that to be possible!

At first I thought the idea of this video was Cilli, but I realized that it was more accurate than I predicted
I feel like the last war was uneventful in the peace deal because it looked like you controlled all of Hungary and likely didn’t “desire” it so the ai just did what it could because it got locked out of eating Hungary.

Played as Cilli for the achievement. It's not an easy start but I've had to restart more on more popular nations, like Lithuania and Serbia.
Lithuania has a tough start, but man does it get going. I had basically all of Europe under my control, as an extended Commonwealth. Almost none of Europe was under my direct control. Just fed my vassals and let them do most everything.
@@brutusthebear9050 eh, I just think Poland is the better way to go (either PU event or local noble, both are viable.) Sure it gets going once you form Commonwealth but I really think unless you're going for the achievement Poland is just better.
@@krisrecke72 Depends. I think the fact that Lithuania has the Personal Union on Muscovy, and the subjugation cb on Novgorod, can make it pretty easy to control Russia. If I just wanted to play a strong nation, yeah I'd go Poland over Lithuania. But if I'm going diplomacy Lithuania is the way to go.

Cilli are weird, they have their own achievement so naturally I''ve played them lol, it's good to try and donk Austria then reform into Austria for that achievement.
10% discipline is a scam, subbing gives -25% ccr and -1% army tradition decay.
The crazy thing about the counts of celje is that they had a deal with the habsburgs that would give them all of the habsburg lands had they lost their lineage first

Yes finally, also a common misconseption about the counts of cili is that they wrere slovene, which they were not they as a matter affect spoke german
Many did, many also spoke Slovene. They did originate from modern Slovenia, though, as Free Lords of castle Žovnek. While tagging medieval peoples with national names is dumb, Celjski grofje (Žovneški gospoda) were as Slovene as Habsburgs were Swabian.

For instance the last Prince, Ulrik II., was recorded teaching his peasants new farming methods and techniques in their native tongue, which would be Slovene.

I know this about Cilli, or Celje... someone has created a model for Celje castle on Cities Skylines, and if you're looking for a good castle model for your historic European city then it's about the best there is.

I played Cili for the Achievement. Took the age ability for claims next to claims. Declared and vassalized Bosnia, claimed Mantua, who was alone and vassalized them as well. Then expanded into Italy and formed Italy.

I played cili as an opm challenge, got about 20 provinces worth of vassals before a coalition got me, good times.
