- That's right, today we look at EU4 Provence. One of the most fun nations in eu4, and definitely worth a go! They've got the good king rene achievement to with their insane missions that give personal unions on several nations! You can even form Jerusalem with Provence! This should be your next EU4 campaign for sure as it's one of the most interesting and chaotic campaigns!

This one is edited by JJL, once again, let him (and me) know what you think!
was great, that nut.mp3 got me dying X)
The volume seems to be a lot lower compared to your other stuff. Had to lower my pc volume significantly when I clicked on another of your videos. Apart from that no issues!
Audio seems lower than usual. Also, much of the text added in editing is there for a second or two, not long enough for me to read them without pausing. Otherwise a great video as always.
Eeeeyeah your last couple of videos have been extremely quiet.
Pretty solid. Would suggest that any text inserted should d last just a wee bit longer as a few went by too quickly to read.
Unironically been waiting for this vid for a while, Provence is actually one of the best placed nations in the game + insane missions ong
Habibi's provence into world conquest is inspiring
The min-maxer in me is going to need to go yo the hospital after this. You could've gotten cores on all of Naples instead of the PU; Its so much better in both AE and for the direct control of southern Italy.
Just wait until you realise I *never* develop and take tech entirely too early 😈
@@TheSocialStreamers nefarious, malicious even 😈
Pro tip: If you can conquer Normandy before Aragon releases Naples you actually get cores instead of Personal Union. Then once they become independent you can attack them and get all of southern italy for no AE

Editors note: if you somehow caught this, you'd know dream and laith are very similar as they both deny their cheating only to use some sob story to cover it up
whta is that suppopsed to mean
@@notlucas6859 There is a YT named Dream who does a LOT of minecraft content. He submitted several speedruns and was caught cheating. Rather than own up he first played ignorant, then the victim, then said he forgot to remove the mods that he had installed, then ignorant again, and then confessed. The editor is making a joke by comparing them since the running meme is Laith lies about using cheats when he plays EU4 lol.
@@mainmarco oh alright thanks
I do this run all the time as Provence. If you want to ensure that you get all of Normandy first, get mil access from France on Nov. 11th. Take all but 2 of your troops to Chartres. Declare on England and you can easily occupy everything before France gets there.
Edit #1: use war objective seiging to help direct the AI. AI is extra dirpy as you know in 1.33.
Edit #2: Always better to take cores on Naples over PU CB. It's cheaper AE, one less relation slot and it will drastically increase your income.
Edit #3. You can join the HRE if you've taken all of Normandy. Just move your capital to Provence state and ally Austria. You'll be just under 200 dev.
Edit #4: I think it's probably better if you release Normandy and Alencon as vassals after the war and then add strong duchies privilege. That way, you can save your admin points early and save it for the capital move.
great video as always, snarky editor is welcome but I wish the words were on screen longer :(
It's left shift + right click to max the cash from the peace deal
he's not trying to get max cash, he's trying to get the maximum that will be accepted. the calculator for that is very buggy though, but it is supposed to be shift left click
@@hashtagrex if you max it, then click the - button on the screen once and then shift right click that ammount will be lowered, and more for each additional time you click the - button
@@Dave-sg8mp thats literally not how any of that works at all. shift right click only increases to the max 25%. thats it. its not the thing laith is talking about, he's talking about shift left click which calculates how much the ai is *going to accept*, except in his case it is bugged
@@hashtagrex It works for me
@@Dave-sg8mp sigh
It's my favourite nation as well, doing a pretty good run with them now where I also got Castile as a PU. Just formed France to vassalize an insanely strong commonwealth (#2 great power) and conquered almost all Jerusamelite cores, it's a stupidly OP nation.
I wanna see it, Laith.
As such, you MUST continue the campaign now.
I have to say man, after watching lots of your videos, you are so crazy charming and watchable, honestly top tier content, i don't even play eu4 much anymore and still i watch your videos
10:04
The last recorded date was 27th of May, 1457 and the recording starts again at 1st of December, 1460. That´s 919 days between the time stamps. Assuming that the armies have to march down to the mountain fort at Pirineus, siege it down and then march further down to Valencia - that leaves about 850 days for two consecuative sieges. So about 425 days each. Alternatively, Laif might have gotten acces through Castille and managed to siege both down simultaneously during that time.
What i´m getting at is that both scenarios are completely impossible because we all know Laif needs AT LEAST three years per fort because the siege gods hate him with a burning passion.
I wanna see the sequel! I have never been so invested in a campaign!
I applaud u on the nerve it took u to snag so many provinces from England, I always just go for Maine + Avignon into 100 dev mission cause Alfons always dies in early 47
what i really like about provence is how their mission tree is most related with Rene the good and the Anjous dynasty
Had a Provence game where I took Naples' cores, PU'd Castille randomly, then got Aragon, Hungary, and Byz, and also got France randomly even though I'd cut them in half - all before 1490. Ah how easy would it be to WC, but that was enough for me lol
Edit: Also my dynasty on Austria and England's thrones!
To be honest I have never had a game as provence that did not end up being a world conquest, prov > FRA > S&P > Croatia > Austria > prussia > coptic > italy/rome > HRE is actually the most free world conquest of all time
If anyone is wondering the text at 0:37 says - Editors note : if you somehow caught this youd know dream and laith are very similar as they both deny their cheating only to use some sob story to cover it up
Laith please play in iron man so we know you're not cheating! and show proof!
But it IS Ironman :(
After watching this I'm really interested in the history of this nation. Like how on earth did france allow for another country to have territory inside of it?
Provence wasn't a country. What EUIV calls "Provence" are the holdings of Rene of Anjou, he was a vassal of the King of France as Duke of Anjou, Provence and Bar through inheritance, vassal of the Holy Roman Emperor as Duke of Lorraine through his wife. To add more confusion he also claimed the title of King of Naples through his father even after losing it to Aragon in 1441 and maintained an even more far fetched claim to Jerusalem, hence why Provence can form it in game. Historically the French crown inherited everything in 1480-1 when first Rene then his nephew Charles died.
So on Wikipedia it says that provence itself was never a part of France, but Anjou was given to the count of provence by Louis IX, his brother
@@goose9515 Yes, that was a mistake on my part, the county of Provence has its own absurdly convoluted history. It was part of the Kingdom of Arles, then it was under the Franks, then passed into Catalan hands before becoming independent, then the house of Valois-Anjou married into it.
“Countries” at this point in history didn’t really exist like what we understand them to be today. Eu4 begins at the tale end of the Middle Ages, and depicts the transition from feudalism to the formation of the First Nation-states.
France at this point was a patchwork of feudal realms which theoretically all owed their allegiance to the french king in Paris, but practically speaking only really paid lip service, like in the case of Provence or Bungundy.
play ck3 and you will understand
Thaks Laith!
I _really_ get why Provence is your favorite nation now, _can't wait_ to play them myself
It’s a blast mate, enjoy!
Flavor universalis actually makes Provence op since you also get cores on all of France
I do need to play that mod again
hey as ur from Tunisia have you ever done or thought about doing a Carthage playthru? Start as an OPM custom nation or something? try to take all of north africa & defeat italy & byzantium
Play some Transylvania. Vampire campaign

Lorraine: "Im an agent of Chaos"
03:30 upload? and I'm even awake somehow. Nice.
I thought the same, ha! Aren't they in England? Someone must have stayed up late
Can you play Asturias in Ante Bellum Mod? Very hard nation in my opinion, but a lot of fun if you can unite Iberia.
I actually recommend to do the Naples mission before they go independent as you get cores not claims so it’s actually more worth it

The shift click for peace deals is shift + right click not left but even that is bugged cause it can go over 100 warscore which makes it still bugged
Shift + let click also works, just differently. It maxes out the cash up to the point that the AI still agrees to the peace deal. This might be as low as zero (when you are exactly at the limit of the peace deal or over it) or as high as 25% war score. Also, shift+left click will stop at 100% war score.
@@arlondelfar1500 there are some incredibly niche edge cases where the shift-leftclick doesn't give you everything they would agree too but the shift-rightclick gives you over 100%, so it just is terribly convoluted sometimes.
@@oljo0527 I'm not even surprised at this point. As I said bugged anyway xD
it feels like the editor is in open revolt against laith.
There’s a couple of them, and they’re bloody unionising
it pains me to see that embrace institution notification repeatedly appearing and he takes a mil tech without noticing it lol
AND I’LL DO IT AGAIN
I can't believe you had the balls to include dream
He start every flipping video just by saying now THIS is my favourite Nation
My fav thing to do as this nation is finish the tree swap sardinia do their mission that gives diplo annex cost then swap Austria for the ideas and mission to get something like - 70% annex cost
Saw someone do Provence-Piedmont-France-Austria-Mongolia-Kongo-Jerusalem in some order for a 1578 WC
Mate you have to try Kitara, central African formable. Just look at their ideas and you'll see the intended playstyle.
I’ll look into it! Cheers!
A Laith Campaign:
1. Declare war while outnumbered.
2. Go into debt.
3. Win by betraying allies.
4. Delete forts.
5. Rebels appear where the forts were - curse bad luck.
6. Get new allies.
7. Repeat 1 through 6.
8. Declare surprise at a massive coalition(s).
9. Attack to defeat or peace out (with allies' lands) the coalition.
10. Repeat all of the above about five times while proclaiming that the gods hate you.
Love it! 😆
So laith has learned sun tzu's art of war: chapter of cliffhanger
Laith should be credited in the next issue of The Art of the Deal
Union only in name is a frustrating mechanic where when you get to many loans, your PU becomes defunked and no longer regards you as a worthy leader.
WHY IS THIS A THING
Because the game hates you
What's happening with the Ulm trip?
Yeah they haven't talked about it since getting 100 k

Great video and commentary by Laith as always but I wish we could go back to the old editing style
Care to give an example of the old editing style?
@@TheSocialStreamers Videos like the one with Theodoro, Epirus or Saluzzo. I think for this type of video a minimalist editing style works best as we can on the gameplay and commentary.
I'm living in provence, so I guess I have to subscribe and like the video now,
Ah yes, the provenkle troops. What a wild ride.
I think you should've taken cores instead of pu over naples, that makes pu'ing aragon way easier and you have better income imo
Did you try right clicking? I feel like you maybe said that but also I feel like you can somehow get it to work despite it eluding you so far. You can do it.
Please do a part 2
You have to turn on your camera and recorder, forget about it, then start playing EU4. I think it will work for very good video
pls continue
Next you have to play Toulouse in fall of Islam mod.
22:43 dude the popup say "shift+r(ight)m(ouse)b(utton) to add the largest possible amount" it works for everyone in comment what kind of mod have you that block it?
In terms of editing please don't flash text up on screen for like 2 frames
That moment when Hungary and Aragon are disloyal and Laith isn't improving relations with them
you know i think laith is doing the cash peace treaty thing wrong lol
Once England managed to get the PU over France when I was trying to do luck of the Irish.
I want more of this
i think the devs make the ai do different things based on how close the player is.. for example, id say timurids more often than not collapse when im far away butt when im close they stay nice & strong

18:35 Austria got Burgundy, but after that, Burgundy is back. Mate, shame on you for save scumming the inheritance.
Shift + right click

i could have sword you'd already done a Provence video becoming crusader state or was it in ck 3? or did u start as a crusader state and then become french?
You may be thinking of epirus or the knights, one of them has French as their primary culture
@@Iamfrozen131 knights have french primary, p sure epirus is latin or maybe thats athens (they also have a different primary culture iirc)
It would have been hilarious if you peaced out earlier and then the English enforced PU on France...
Also wow that peace deal with the AI coalition is hilarious, dum dum AI is dum dum...
New editor?
"forgot to record" did you also play with flat dev?
if you get 100 ae over all of europe and then get a coalition war & you give them all the rubbish stuff to make them peace out does that mean all the ae is permanently gone? or only until the truce runs out? will it be another similar coalition again after the truce?
It doesn't go away but you'll have a truce with the coalition giving you time to improve relations and get rid of the AE.
@@Old_Harry7 so not as good as i was hoping then.. i dont think im gonna try his risky manoeuvres but hes much better at the game than me.. i usually do just one neighbour at a time keeping them all in truces bit by bit as one truce ends i war them again...
@@tigrecito48 also giving up allies land only really works if the leader of the coalition has a grudge against your ally or desires said territories and since this is a pretty rare occasion most of the time the coalition will pretend your land for the peace deal which defeats the entire purpose of the "exploit".
@@Old_Harry7 but if i allied mamluks as say qq and id been expanding tons just before a coaltion led by ottomans, i could then give away all mamluk land and lose nothing... apart from making otto even stronger and me having a weaker ally which isnt good.. i prefer generally to not get big coalitions cos im not that good at dealing with armies that are bigger than mine
@@tigrecito48 yeah, I'd argue that if you are going for a fast achievement run or you are simply planning to have a quick campaign playing in a wreckless way might do the trick offering you tons of fun.
Anyhow, best way to deal with coalitions is to diversify your root of expansion by alternating attacking different religious groups and also going for vassals and reconquest wars.
(For example as QQ you could expand into Shia lands, release Iraq and reconquest Sunni provinces and even jumping on Coptic and Orthodox nations in the north).
You seem to have the UI mod that makes it so you can see when an AI accepts a peace deal whilst taking ducats. I would guess that’s probably the reason shift clicking there doesn’t work for you. Probably turn off the mod, not really a point for it anymore since the game does it for you now.
Shift clicking doesn't work when fully annexing, probably because when the ai is fully annexed they don't care about debt anymore. But shift clicking is based on how much they would accept if they did care. I have the same problem and I don't have any UI mods.
@@brutusthebear9050 the problem he has is that shift-clicking does nothing extra, it’s not the same issue.
About your problem though, if I’m fully annexing a nation, I’ll just shift and right click twice; that takes the maximum amount I can.
Keep it going!
This is the second time im telling u to make your hud bigger cuz i cant see shit on my phone
honestly, i get allies ONLY so my enemies have who to siege. never count on the AI.
It's not just you, taking money in wars doesn't work for me either.
i would like to see roman hispania part 2
Lads, what the fuck are you doing uploading this time of night? Gan sleep
Sleep is for the weak
Obviously you have to alt tab and right click to get max money🤣
Eh, I prefer to take Naples as core provinces than PU them
More 🔥🔥
talking of annoying ai... does Ming normally ever ally anyone? I dont remember ever having seen that happen. I am playing sirhind.. i allied bengal & bahamani... later on i decided to break with bengal to later take provinces for missions... bahamani almost immediately called me into a war with bengal so i wouldnt get what i want and bengal had allied ming... as i said.. i dont remember ever seeing ming with allies apart from when it breaks up & it allies the released nations
Nice play, seems you have very lazy diplomats? That probably bites you here. If you plan to PU, get relations up beforehand so you can quickly get it positive afterwards. With the PUs loyal, coalitions won't fire as easily either.
Moreover, you can keep people out of it fairly well. With religious diplomats you should be at +50 for fellow catholics already (countering base AE), so if you're taking 70ish AE, that's just 20 improved relations to keep someone out of the coalition. Done to the key nations while you have decent strength, that likely is enough.
Getting alliances with Burgundy/Castille would be useful here if you have the slot, and of course if you're joining the HRE, might as well consider becoming emperor.
you seem like you would be very easy to peer pressure
Yeah fair mate, don’t want to disagree
Audio is quiet my guy
Not sure if one of the mods I use fixes it, but the shift-click money works perfectly fine for me

Probably on the newest but i think hes using some kind of texture pack
Bigger UI + Stellaris font + Graphical Improvements
Naples going independent was shit timing, I prefer the cores over the pu cb
That's some typical EU4 AI shit lol, you have France as an ally and they somehow start losing the 100 years war. You have them as an enemy and suddenly Napoleon himself is taking charge, they're a mil-tech ahead and they just got their Elan. Honestly at this point I'm sure the game is programmed so that if an AI allies a player they have their "intelligence" halved, or less lol.
This game is sooo tedious after 1000 + hrs
