I'm Italian and my name is hilariously Italian and I love it. This guy is a typical self loathing millennial. He thinks he's morally inferior. He's trying to rebel by going with someone of a different race. It's so obvious. I don't think she likes him at all, I think she gets off that she "stole" him from his family. Hence asking for separation, asking him to abandon his heritage and adopt hers.
My parents are very italian and very racist. I had to move out to date whoever I wanted to date. But I would never change my name and throw away my heritage just because of some girl who is 90% of the time not going to be with me in 5 years.
So on one hand I can understand the boyfriend not wanting to change his name. On the other hand take a step back what have we admitted about this father he is racist and I know quite a few children who would say I don’t want to be associated with someone who behaves in that manner. Suppose he in this young women were to get married have children what does it say that their grandfather truly might be racist towards the grandchildren or the mother. I mean I know plenty of kids would say I don’t want to be associated with that type of individual and they would cut off ties with them.
