I just had my double jaw surgery in December! My journey is a little like yours with the underbite, but I had to have braces before surgery and my upper and lower jaw had to be lined up before having the procedure. I am still in the recovery process, but the process of healing and adult braces has all been worth it! I couldn’t watch other people’s videos leading up to my procedure because a lot of them freaked me out lol. Some tips before you have surgery: get lots of protein or meal replacement shakes in different flavors because you will get sick of the same ones over and over again especially because most likely you’re gonna be on a liquid or mostly liquid diet for like 2-3 weeks. Also chobani has yogurt drinks that are good for keeping up your calcium, Odwalla has good drinks too, and Jamba Juice has pre made packs you can get at the grocery store. Make sure you eat because I got so sick one day I didn’t want to drink one of my shakes and it was horrible lol. Congestion won’t be fun after the surgery, so ask your doctor about nasal spray decongestants because you can’t have pressure in your nose. Get a saline spray. Get a good chapstick or use like vasaline or aquaphor because your lips will become unbearably dry and cracked. Get a PACK of baby toothbrushes because they will get gross. If you have a humidifier use it! Get a wedged pillow it will help with swelling. Condiment bottles and squeezable water bottles that football players use to fit into their helmets are also good to use to drink and eat from. I’d get a couple so you have some for drinking water and others for food. Also get a comfy set of pajamas and sweats!! Just remember everyone’s journey isn’t the same and just focus on you

How lomg did your nose congestion last? How did you breath right after surgery? And fr how long did you wear braces for before surgery
Just decided to move forward with double jaw surgery and appreciate you sharing! Very similar journey with underbite and molars removed on the top years ago as a result of the misalignment of my jaws. Please keep sharing as you prep for surgery-wishing you a smooth process and healing!
I actually just had the surgery a few days ago. This recovery is no jokeeee. Ill keep you updated with my next vlog!! Im holding onto the “itll all be worth it” messages I keep hearing from friends, family and my doctor. 🤍🤍🤍

I got the spacers too. Its painful at first but you get used to it and forget its there. It made me lose a ton of weight because i cant eat hard foods.

Having the 1st and/or 2nd molars banded is common for orthodontics (braces). Plus, taking an OTC pain reliever an hour prior to your adjustment appointments. Help!

I haven't heard of needing brackets on both molars. I just had my surgery a week ago and didn't need them. Must be a surgeon preference thing.

Don’t get discouraged with the swelling and congestion is the worst just be mentally ready to be very uncomfortable
Ive heard this and im slowly adopting things to help like peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils, mindfulness to deal with the difficulty breathing. Do you have any recommendations?
@@kyyahabdularchives net pot that shoots water up your nose. Use warm water because you can't blow your nose but if you use the net pot and breath normally you can push whatever blocking your nose this was the game-changer because the congestion will make you want to quit life

Fellow future djs patient here! I also have an underbite, but the main issue is that my top jaw is too far back. Found your channel when looking for vloggers who used Invisalign for their surgery, and then I see you had to switch to braces?!! Going to go watch more of your vids to see the context but that’s crazy! I am so sorry my friend. My surgeon is (supposedly) able to do my surgery WHILST I have Invisalign, so I’m trying to do as much research as possible about djs with invis, bc hardly anyone has gotten that done. I’m hoping to get mine in the next month or 3, bc covid closed my hospital up from elective surgeries all winter. Praying you queen!
Hiii! Yeah the Invisalign was to move my teeth in prep for surgery but i had to get braces bc you are suppose to be in them for surgery. Especially if your jaw is wired shut after they need something to keep the teeth sturdy! Did your doctor say why you don’t need braces 👀?

YOU FINALLY HAD YOUR SURGERY?!!!! IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!! Just got mine scheduled!! April 27th is my big day! So instead of switching to braces for after surgery, I’ll have surgical hooks screwed into my gums to keep my jaws sturdy 😬 (and I’ll be rubber banded shut, rather than wired).
