my bad.. with how amazing it looks I totally assumed it was a AAA game.. but looks like they are blurring the lines good to see. chatGPT helped me understand haha: The classification of a game as “indie” versus “AAA” isn’t solely based on the budget, but rather a combination of factors including the size and structure of the development team, the independence from major publishers, and the overall production scale. Here’s a breakdown of why Black Myth: Wukong might still be considered an indie game despite its large budget and long development time: 1. Independence: Game Science, the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong, operates independently, meaning they aren’t owned by or working under the constraints of a major publisher. Indie games are typically characterized by this independence, allowing developers to maintain creative control over their projects. 2. Studio Size: While Game Science has grown and invested heavily in the production of Black Myth: Wukong, it is still a relatively small studio compared to the large teams that work on AAA titles. AAA games are often produced by studios with hundreds or even thousands of employees, backed by massive marketing and distribution networks. 3. Funding Sources: AAA games are typically funded by large publishers who invest millions into development, marketing, and distribution. Indie games, even with large budgets, often rely on alternative funding methods, such as private investors, crowdfunding, or the reinvestment of profits from previous projects. 4. Creative Freedom: Indie studios typically have more creative freedom because they aren’t bound by the same commercial pressures as AAA studios. This allows them to take risks and innovate in ways that might be less feasible for larger companies beholden to shareholder expectations. 5. Marketing and Distribution: AAA games benefit from massive marketing budgets and global distribution networks. While Black Myth: Wukong has gained significant attention, its marketing and distribution efforts may not reach the same scale as those of a typical AAA title. In summary, Black Myth: Wukong might blur the lines between indie and AAA due to its high production values and substantial budget. However, the game’s indie classification stems from Game Science’s independence, smaller team size, and different approach to development compared to traditional AAA studios. The terms “indie” and “AAA” are increasingly fluid, especially as smaller studios produce games that rival the quality of big-budget titles.

@@nophacetech at 75% resolution and low graphics you get 20% lower framerate with FG off, that's a long ways from half. Just drop resolution by another 8% (67% resolution scale) and you get 40fps locked without frame gen, that's a big win in my book.
