Bruh I was 14 working at a Kroger (Regional grocery store) and heard this song blasting out of a car in the parking lot. Raised in a baptist home, I had no exposure to secular music. I'd never heard metal before. I asked the guy what it* was and he took the tape (yes, tape) out and straight gave it to me. Changed my life.
First time I ever heard Metallica was like 88-89. I went to a Christian school and had only really listened to oldies and country growing up. Another kid on the bus had a Walkman with I think ride the lightning. My first thought was "holy crap, it's a wall of noise." But I kept listening, and kept listening, and kept listening. Birth of a metalhead right there lol.
It was 1986, I was 17 years old. Me and a friend drove to the liquer store where they sold beer to underage people. On the way there my buddy says "you gotta hear this" He pulls a cassette tape out of his coat pocket and plays master of puppets. It was that day my musical world was changed forever.
So similar to my story, only I was 16 in '86, and it was Kill 'Em All that my friend put in the cassette player in his car on our way to go get some beer. At that time, a friend had loaned me Peace Sells, But Who's Buying so I had already been introduced to thrash metal, but Kill 'Em All took it to another level and I was blown away. Music has never been the same for me ever since.
I was introduced to Metallica on a Saturday back in 87 after footy at my mates flat while drinking n toting, previously a Maiden fan.the resonation hit me straight between the eyes
Those are the experiences you just never forget. Imagine growing up in this modern world where everything is available at any time, these kids and teens will probably never have those moments
I believe the calm part in the song is when the user is high. Then the cravings come back. Saw them the first time in 90. Bunch of times since. Amazing live performances.
Hey, Man. I am 55 years old. I bought this album (on casette) in 1986 when it came out. By the time it had dropped, I had already worn out my copies of their first two albums. Your reaction was not only genuine, it was the same as my reaction 37 years ago. It was like being struck by lightning and being hit in the head with a sledgehammer at the same time. Yet, somehow, bringing me emmence joy. Thank you for being respectful and open-minded to all genres of music. Art is art. Furthermore, to answer your question, yes, this IS what Metallica does to people. Thanks again. May God continue to bless you and your family. -Ed
54 here, and it took a minute for this album to grow on me. Peace Sells was my first real introduction to thrash metal, and I was hooked immediately. Then I discovered Kill 'Em All and it was all over. I loved that album so much, and MoP was a bit of a departure from it, so I wasn't immediately taken with it. It did grow on me tho, and I think now it might be their best album. Tho I do think And Justice For All is more ambitious, it was hampered by horrible production and mixing. Lars almost ruined that album.
Listen to it again with the knowledge that it's about addiction, and the master is the drug. The first break is when the user uses and you get that initial beauty, that gives way to sadness, then builds back into the desperation of the beginning of the song. It really is a masterpiece.
The song plays out on purpose too. The intro is hard and heavy, before the drug. The middle part is the calm while high. The end is coming down and needing more. It’s a masterpiece.
I remember being young as shit when this album came out and loved it Then in my late teens going down a bad path and fully understanding it Then growing out of the bullshit
That’s not what that is. Somebody just made that up. It about them Harmonizing and creating beautiful music akin to classical(the interlude) under the influence of cliff who had studied music. He taught them to Harmonize.
I my opinion 35 years in "Master of Puppets" is their best overall. Not a bad track on the whole album. But "Ride the Lightning" is somehow my personal favorite. Those two have been neck and neck for around two decades now.
That right there is the life fuel of Generation X.. Listen to them, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, This is what we grew up with, this is what we partied too, this is what we went to bed at night listening too.. We are the Feral Generation. (after listening to all of the above, now you can understand what our brains hear when we are zoned out) lol.. Great Video man!
They were actually 22-23 years old when it was released in March of 1986. James and Lars were 22 and Cliff and Kirk were 23. James and Lars had to be 21 when the song was written because they started recording just a month after James turned 22 and Lars was still 21 throughout recording.
@@MatthewC137 thats becuse people were lot more mature than today,i am 26 today and i can concive myself to have this life depth to write something like this myself even 2-3 years ago, todays teens cant spell restaurant, can only charge their phone and go to gym.
The Puppets/Justice albums were their peak for lyrics. After that their lyrics became pretty underwhelming. I doubt anyone will feel any kind of impact reading the lyrics to Lux Aeterna.
1980s: Rampant crack cocaine epidemic. '80s parents: don't let me catch you listening to that devil music. That devil music: hey drugs will ruin your life, but so you get the message, we'll veil it in one of the most iconic heavy metal songs of all time.
It seems to me that the Master is the drug itself. We are the puppets. I don’t have too much knowledge of Metallica, but this is in a league of its own. The Syncopated rhythms are phenomenal.
I still remember my first time. I was in highschool in the 90s, late to the metal scene and friends were playing this on the way home from school. I'd only heard Metallica's songs from what we called the "Black" album, so this was brand new to me and I loved it. After that I started seeking out other Metallica stuff and they quickly became my favorite band for the next few years.
Been a Metallica fan since I was a kid in the 80's. I absolutely love watching people experience them for the first time. No one does it like they do. Welcome to headbanging!
Same here! I’m now an addict of watching Metallica reaction videos. It’s so great to see people experiencing them for the first time and immediately feeling the way we did when these songs came out. Music brings people together and I love all these people truly listening and realizing metal isn’t what they thought it was. 🤟
Same here. I had heard some because I had older brothers but after the black album came out I went back and really listened to everything with a bit more purpose. So young though. Wish I could experience that again but as someone with a far better trained ear for hearing music.
This song is about addiction. Master of Puppets Album as a collective is prob one of the greatest albums of all time. Up there with the Wall & Dark Side of The Moon. Im a huge Metallica Pink Floyd Queen Fan. A lot of their songs have deep, relatable meaning. One - being alone after tragic war Fade to Black - suicide Sanitarium - feeling like you are locked up in a cell And JUSTICE FOR ALL...our unfair judicial system. My favorite is To Live is To Die. I look forward to more Metallica reactions.
One is about a war veteran who has lost his ability to move, speak, see or hear; effectively he has "locked in" syndrome and has only his memory of war to keep himself company.
The riff changes with Metallica are phenomenal. Not everyone can handle the changes but I think they've told the ultimate story JUST with the instrumentals. If you think about it, all those riff changes are a living element of addiction. The highs and the crashes are the the same as the riff changes. That's what an addict experiences
This is priceless entertainment. I'm 51 and I heard this when I was 13 and it took my soul and I learned how to play guitar from this album in 40 years later I'm still playing. I love seeing people's genuine reaction to this. Welcome my friend haha
Same here! Except the guitar part! As you said, it took my soul! (LOVE THAT!) I still remember my buddy Shawn Carmine gave me his copy and implored me to listen to it, first time I was HOOKED, have been since!
Same exact situation here Im 50...and did the same!! Now I have 5 guitars and an 8 pc double bass kit with 8 cymbals. Owe it all to the Rock & Metal of the 80's! 😎🤟🤟
I'm 50. Listened to this album sitting in the mall parking lot waiting for Mom & Dad with a buddy. We both became musicians after. Haven't talked to him in a while, but still rocking the guitar myself. All thanks to this album. When that first smash on Battery pops in? It wasn't goosebumps. It was some next-level "OMG! MY WORLD HAS CHANGED!" I'm sure you know what I'm sayin'. Watching new people discover this music is such a blast. Really brings me back.
The drummer, Lars Ulrich, was inspired by the drummer for The Police, Stewart Copeland. When he does the pauses, he's offsetting the beat by one. The rest of the band continues on the standard, 1-2-3-4 pattern, but he's switched to 2-3-4-1. Then on the next pause he goes back in sync with the band. Many people think he fucked up, but it's actually genius! 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Imagine being 11 years old in '86 at your first concert, and the first song played is Battery!😎🤘 (I'm still looking for the rest of my mind in the floor and on the walls of that coliseum.🤯)
I absolutely love these reaction vids. seeing non metal heads appreciate the music I grew up with brings me so much joy. Thank you for being so open minded bro. much love and respect to you
This album turned me into a metal head, as a punk guitarist I was like fuck me that's how you play guitar and I never turned back, it 's powerful shit and I love it to this day. really enjoyed your reaction you get it bro!
You know what's funny is, the first Metallica song I ever heard was Battery, and it initially sounded more like punk to me than metal. I know, I know... it's most definitely not punk, but that was my first impression. I didn't really warm up to them until I heard Kill 'Em All, and that blew me away. Then I went back to listen to Battery again, along with the rest of the album through a different lens, which made me realize it was pure heavy metal genius, through and through.
The flow of the song takes you on the ride of a junkie. The tweaking, jerky, manic start. The sudden smoothing out of the high that slowly fades away back to the mania. I love it when the song flow mirrors the lyrics. Evenflow by Pearl Jam comes to mind.
Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Ride The Lightning, Kill Em All, Seek And Destroy, The Four Horsemen, One, Harvester Of Sorrow, Sanitarium, Blackened, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Until It Sleeps, the list goes on
Great list, but I'd add a couple more. I think the opening riff, and the one that follows "war without end" in No Remorse are still 2 of the heaviest riffs I've heard. Disposable Heroes kicks your teeth in, too.
This song is nothing but pure genius. It's written from 2 different perspectives at the same time: drug addict and drug itself. The music portion is from the perspective of the addict. The lyrical portion is from the perspective of the drug except for one small part. When the music starts picking back up again, the lyrics and music merge to both come from the perspective of the addict... Master, Master, where's the dreams that I've been after? Master, Master, you've promised only lies. Laughter, laughter, all I see or hear is laughter. Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries. FIX ME! And that is when the perspectives separate and it's back to Master (drug of choice) and addict.
This song is WILD. Addiction from the addict's perspective, explained better than ever. I've never been able to understand it fully myself, but my sister was on the junk for years. After seeing it firsthand, this song hits different, my understanding is completely different now. It's even more haunting now
It is absolutely from the perspective of the drug or other source of addiction. Pay attention to when it's using I and Me, and what's being said with it. "Taste ME you will see More is all you need Dedicated to How I'm killing you" Basically try me and you'll be on the hook and want more. You want more of the me no matter what, even though I'm destroying you. Definitely the substance talking. Not the user, not the addiction. The substance personified, controlling you and laughing at you as you struggle.
From the drugs perspective or the addicts perspective, the story is told with the same desperation, power and control. I totally understand what you’re saying
The Kings! This is the album that made me pick up a guitar when I was 12 years old. I had one hell of a career in my bands playing with a lot of huge artists including the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Luda. I just got my tickets to see them in the pit in Arlington, TX on August 18th and August 20th 2023. Those will be my 15th and 16th live Metallica shows! I can’t wait. Great reaction. Now you have to go down the Metallica rabbit hole! 🤘
It wasn't so normal when it first came out. By that I mean going back to earlier albums like Kill 'Em All that helped introduce the world to a whole new genre of music. It was pretty niche back then, tho eventually did become "normal." Before Metallica hit it big tho, bands like Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were considered the norm for heavy metal.
First time watcher. Thank you for this reaction! Music is meant to be listened to TOGETHER, and seeing you enjoy it for the first time brings back my first experience with the song, and many more since. Great stuff! Keep it up!
The first time I heard this was live. They opened for Ozzy just a few months before the wreck. I had heard a couple of songs by them before that show. I was blown away that night. RIP CLIFF we all miss you.
I had just started high school when this came out, and it changed my, and everyone else's perception of what heavy metal was forever. Cliff Burton's (their bassist) formal training in classical music, and a deep understanding of music theory by the time he graduated high scool, was a huge influence on those early albums. Mixed with their (at the time) no compromise, high octane approach to heavy music, Cliff and Metallica helped define an entire genre. This was just as, if not more, mind blowing back in the 80s as it is today. If you want to continue down the rabbit hole give Disposable Heroes from the same album a listen. That song will kick your teeth in both musically and lyrically.
Incredible that you were able to experience this song with this much depth. You felt it. You dove in. I respect that. You let the art speak to you and you totally understood deeper than i ever could. You have a great insight for art and creativity 👏
Yes it's the right version. A lot of their music is like that if you listen to them. It was one of the things I really loved about Metallica those long ass intros and the way they just kind of paused it yeah it's awesome.
I have 36, in Colombia is not that popular metal bands, but my older brother get me through rock and metal, and the first time a heard this song, i was completely blown away. Same reaction, Metallica is the greatest band of all of times. Is beautiful to see young generations getting the same reaction on this. Amazing.
Your neighbors in Brazil produced one of most iconic thrash metal bands of all time with Sepultura. They've never made it quite as big as Metallica, but they were around back in the 80s, and have a huge following still to this day.
Evokes emotion.!! Not just the lyrics.. but the musical composition tells the story within the lyrics. Love seeing people reacting to Metallica, it's like watching a person's mind being opened. The true masters..
It's a song about how drug addiction controls people, hence the drugs are the Master of Puppets with the puppets being the addicted human...That's from the lead singer who wrote the song...
Once you fall into the Metallica trap, there is no escape for the rest of your life. I’ve been listening for 30 years. Started playing guitar because of them. 🤘
Both of my sons, born almost 11 years apart, picked up guitars after really getting into Metallica. Thankfully I'm a huge fan myself because their music has been the soundtrack of my life for as long as I can remember.
I remember when this came out. Being in my bedroom and putting this record on. We all reacted like you did on this. It’s fun to see people today living the magic we did. It’s like listening for the first time again. Thanks for doing this
thanks tooblunt, you dont know what you just did for me in this reaction. an outside view (non metalhead) can shed new light from a different view and got me thinking. welcome to metal and rock on brother! #whoisyourmaster
Just subbed, first time here. Great reaction! My wife thinks im crazy watching reaction videos... Not reliving youth, just enjoying younger versions of myself witness new music for the first time! Believe it or not i saw this tour in Edmonton at the convention center. Id say 1500 people at most, more likely 800. James even operated the sound board in the middle of the aisle with a can of " canadian " for the opening band! Anyhow, back in the 80's high school....lucky to have 30% of us " heads " liking metal, most preppy's and jocks were into pop. So nice to see a new generation appreciating! From west coast canada 🇨🇦, peace!
Had to laugh at "No one human can take all this".... I used to go to sleep to this album in high school. I loved seeing this. Awesome reaction. Reminded me of the first time I heard it with my bro.
I've always taken it that the start is the drug trying to lure, seduce, tempt you. Goading you. Then the music break where it gets mellow and gradually amps back up, is the high once you give in to the temptation. It gets more frantic and then you realize what it's done and you're yelling at the drug. Then the drug comes back in and torments you, boasts and brags about it. Absolutely my favorite Metalica song. Thanks for reacting to it. If you haven't done "One" you should (Official video please). And you have to do Enter Sandman (the live concert in Russia in 1991. It will blow your mind)
Love Metalica and the way every song takes you on a journey. I think the drug is the Puppet Master. One of the best guitar solos is in this song. Love your reaction ♥️
I think the reason it sounds "chopped" is because that's exactly how the riff is written. The end of every other bar is in 7/8, but it's not "written" in 7/8, Lars just kinda thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if we did this?" It's creates this frenetic start-and-stop sound which reflects the subject matter perfectly. Metallica really were on another level in the 80s
There you go! That's what I've heard and it was interesting to see someone react to it!. I didn't know how to properly phase what they did that was a bit different than normal
I know a lot of people hate Lars and claim he's not a good drummer, but what I've always loved about him is exactly this. He doesn't play like a conventional drummer, he plays along with the music they make and that makes it so unique. I don't think Metallica would have been what they are without him.
First song my son learned to play on electric guitar, by ear, at 12 yes old!! Now he's 29 and has seen them 18 times. He's also an amazing artist, in his spare time. Gotta pay the bills as electrician. I had him very young, then his sister 3 years later, so we grew up together. My kids are my best friends, especially since my husband died 5 years ago. We listen to everything from stuff like this to old school r&b, gangster rap, classical. Everything but country..and we live in NC which is considered the south. You're awesome!! Keep it up!
In all seriousness their brand has changed so much over the years. Their newest song just came out like less than a week ago too. I'm actually pretty impressed with it. You should check it out
05:54 always love the reactions when someone hear's this for the first time and you can literally see the all the lyrics coming together in their head haha
I absolutely love when the realization hit you as to the dark meaning in the song. Do worry we ALL got caught up in the music drive of the song till we caughtb the lyrics..
This was my first time seeing Metallica, too! July 16th, 1986 in Columbus, Ohio. I went for Ozzy, but walked away a Metallica fan! Stood in the 5th row. I could see Cliff's sweat on his forehead. 🖤🤘🎶
This was so cool to watch. I don’t know what it is but there is just something rad about watching someone discover Metallica and watch that joy of discovering that love organically. It’s so awesome. Enjoy my brother.
This song is about addiction and the puppet master is the drug that takes controle of your life. Also the song is structured to reflect the way in which addiction takes hold of you with the high energy in the beginning, then you get that beautifully melodic section like the euphoric felling you get when high that transitions to that aggressive pounding beat of the need for more and the low of coming down. A beautifully arranged piece of music and a powerful message. Great to see you enjoying music and being open to new things. Us metalheads welcome any and all who are honest and good. Peace
I had just turned 14 when this record came out. It literally changed my life and became the anthem of my spring. Arcades and this song pumping in my walkman were a memory I will always treasure. I have seen them live in every decade except the current one...will ensure I do before the 20s are over :)
I was the private bartender for Metallica on the Gold Coast in Australia for Big Day Out one lucky night. Best night ever. Korn there also. Saw them jam unplugged. Something else.❤️ Respect Metallica 💪
I always enjoyed the story tellers. I consider Metallica to be one of those bands that requires a comfy chair and time to absorb the album as a whole. It brings a new feel to listening s to individual tracks 🤟 You also might enjoy a little "Eddie" in your life via the band Iron Maiden. I can tell you the live shows were amazing. Great reaction.
My alltime fav Metallica song!!! Listening to this song you have to realize your not in control and they are pulling the strings. Just when you think you found thier rythem they change it on you and send you in another direction. It's a true masterpiece in music!!
I love listening to reactions of people who would normally never listened to such music, and then hear some mind blowing interpretations, which absolutely fit the music both then and now, Thank You Sir...
I'm not even two minutes into the video and I already love that you are in disbelieve, if this is the right thing! The arrangements of METALLICA can be overwhelming. LOVE IT!
Love your interpretation.. I’ve listened to Metallica since 1983 and have always loved the heaviness and the riffs…. I’m also now an alcoholic/addict and it’s videos like yours that help me see much more clearly about my addiction… thank you man 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤
when this album came out, I was a junior in high school. My buddies and I picked it up from the music store, plugged it in the cassette deck and drove down to the beach listening to this on full blast while smoking many fat joints. I remember being totally blown away. This was their masterpiece album.
Dude. Epic response, even if a little over the top. You just heard one of the greatest thrash moments from the 80s. It's accessible and catchy, but hard af.
I'll never forget hearing Enter Sandman as a 6 year old in 91 at the state fair. My body and soul felt it and my mother... Was like "well shit." Up until then I had listened to patsy cline, Johny cash, old school country. CCR was the closest to rock I had gotten. But that day, a metal head was born and my mother knew it. God bless her too lol because she never said anything about me blasting Megadeth, Lamb of God, Slipknot, Manson, Zombie growing up other than coming to my room to tell me it was bedtime haha.
Strictly my opinion, but this is the best song on the best album by the best band. Great choice. Saw them live in July of 1986, just got tickets for 2 more shows, #22&23. So many options to suggest. You seemed to really enjoy the speed and energy. For me, my next favorite is Dyer's Eve. Buckle in, it's a bumpy ride. PS. Your child is beautiful. Bless you my friend
It's called "Thrash"... and this may be the pinnacle of the genre. Based on speed, technical prowess and heart pumping riffs, Thrash is and was that other end of the spectrum of calm. Frantic and furious. Personally... kept me from lashing out.
God I remember listening to this album as a teen on what is called vinyl now. Seeing them as a supporting act on DC for Scorpons and VanHalen. Been to many more shows since even Metallica and Kid Rock at Ravens stadium. nothing tops live music.
GREAT REACTION. I almost peed in the beginning too. 😆 It’s not a person or the media or whoever pulling the strings and then drugging someone. Take it from the perspective of the DRUG ITSELF singing to the addict. The drug itself is the puppet master.
Another band that had a lot of longevity as Korn. That's an experience too. I've seen them in concert like 10 times. It's so loud the stadium shakes with everyone singing and bouncing. I saw them at the LA Galaxy stadium in LA and you could see the stadium jostle.
I was a massive Metallica fan growing up but don't listen to them a lot anymore. It brings me great joy to rediscover this song along with you. 1980's Metallica was on an entirely different level.
Great reaction man! Next song I highly suggest from them is called “One” I suggest doing the lyric video though cause the video itself interrupts the music, all the instrumental parts and epic ness of the song itself. If you know what I’m saying
@@robberrie677 I'd usually advocate for an original release w/subtitled lyrics, and I do think the original version is a superior listen, but our man here is sharp enough to not be distracted by the additions to the video version - which I think has a more visceral impact by including the movie visuals and dialog added from which the song is inspired. At least so long as he knows the official release doesn't also have all the movie stuff. My $0.02 :)
@Clockwork Yokai Yup, plus you have all the bands and other sub-genres that spouted from this point in time. Search "Metal" Genre's and take a look at all the wonderful categories there are to delve into, it's fantastic. 👍👍👍👍
This was the second song I ever played all the way through, in time. Holds a lot of memories for me. Thanks for doing a reaction video, so a new generation can be warped by the music I grew up listening to!
One was the first song that drew me in to being a Metallica fan. One is a timeless masterpiece. I became more of a fan because of they were influenced by Rush. This is the best review of this song I’ve seen. Job well done TooBlunt.
The Master of Puppets is the drug! How it completely takes over your life and becomes your number one, everything else is secondary to your next fix. Very dark and important song.
It’s really any addiction, for them it was mainly alcohol. While the one line does explicitly call out cocaine, the MoP can be anything that someone is addicted to that shapes their behavior, even social media, for a modern context.
As a Metallica fan, the lyrics of this song are what make it such a masterpiece. There are 3 parts to this song the beginning where the drugs are convincing the man to take more drugs as if that is all he needs. As if drugs would solve all his issues. The man knows he's already not doing well but trusts the drug's false promises. In the middle of the song, the slow part is the high that the drug is giving the man. This leads to the end of the slow part showing the man coming out of the high leading to the crash afterwards. While coming out of the high into the crash the man is begging for more drugs as that is all he knows how to do at this point and asks the drugs to "fix me" and the drug claims its victory on the man with laughter. The man realizes that the Drugs lied to him and that it's really just taking away his dreams, and future. The last part is where the man is now too far into his addiction and the Drugs, his Master, is controlling his entire life like a Puppet Master. At this point the man is so far in that his life has become a living hell and he's now doing drugs for breakfast and the drugs now occupy and rule over his life. It's just a story of personified Drugs talking to man, and the progression of man's addiction.

I was 14 when I first heard this and hadn’t really listened to metal just classic rock I was hooked instantly metal head for ever.
I had a friend bring this round to my house when I was maybe 11, along with Reign In Blood, Number of The Beast & Black Metal. All on vinyl 👌🏻

Right on! We were so lucky to be kids then!!!
Please tell us if it was a faded wore out Levis jean jacket loaded with metal pins.
I believe the calm part in the song is when the user is high. Then the cravings come back. Saw them the first time in 90. Bunch of times since. Amazing live performances.
I always thought the slow part was the come down from the high myself
This! He gets his fix and fades out and then he starts to come to as it it speeds back up
Yes, then he say fix me, and for me that solo is another shot or sniff, that couses overdose. Sorry for bad english
@@Samurai_Stoner I think the slow part is the floating and euphoric feeling of being on it.... After that it goes to the crash.

Same here!!! I just found all my old concert tickets, saw them only 4 times
No matter how you lost a copy one did not simply exist without a new one :D
Mine 2
I heard this first time on BBC Radio One’s Friday Rock Show, as they were about to release the …And Justice For All album. I’m 52! You’re spot on!
💯% 👍 16:23🤟✌️🤟
I remember being young as shit when this album came out and loved it
Then in my late teens going down a bad path and fully understanding it
Then growing out of the bullshit
That’s not what that is. Somebody just made that up. It about them Harmonizing and creating beautiful music akin to classical(the interlude) under the influence of cliff who had studied music. He taught them to Harmonize.
It not about drugs
@@Ekunayo ahh you’re right. “Chop your breakfast on a mirror” is about eggs.
The greatest metal album ever to grace the human race.
that's "Rust In Peace".
I like their second album better.
@@C_mao It's an amazing album! Call of Ktulu is my second favorite song by Metallica. Listening to Cliff mimic Cthulu.... magical.
I my opinion 35 years in "Master of Puppets" is their best overall. Not a bad track on the whole album. But "Ride the Lightning" is somehow my personal favorite. Those two have been neck and neck for around two decades now.
I can respect that opinion, but I seriously see as a tie with "Reign In Blood"!
I love the “Aha!” moment when reactors hear the, “Chop your breakfast on a mirror…” line and realize the song is about addiction 😁
Told from the point of view of the drug…
same
Seriously tho. I was waiting for that light bulb to come on. His expression delivered. 😆
But they miss the previous part about the Needle.
I actually LOL'd at that part
To think Metallica wrote this song at the ages of 24-25 years old is mind-blowing. A masterpiece written at that age is incredible to me.

Yup. Metallicas best song. Others would say One , but that emotion comes with the video. Id actually say Orion is second, with ONE in 3rd.

This song is a hall of famer for sure. It's genius in every way, the treatment of the subject matter, the structure of the song and the awesome riffs.
It seems to me that the Master is the drug itself. We are the puppets. I don’t have too much knowledge of Metallica, but this is in a league of its own. The Syncopated rhythms are phenomenal.

I was 15, now 53…it still fucking rules as much or more now than it did then.
Almost 55 and this shit still rocks❤❤❤Amazing live, too!!!
Nobody is ever really ready for their first time hearing this track.
Very true. When he said "I can't time it" I lost it. :D See that's how we feel when we try to dance
I saw them in 1985 I was hooked with Kill 'em all...then Ride the Lightning came along.
My sister gave me And Justice for all. Blackened stayed on repeat for some time. The complexity.
I said "wait, what did they just say??? Did I hear that right???"
No one does it like they used to do, not even then!
Same here. I had heard some because I had older brothers but after the black album came out I went back and really listened to everything with a bit more purpose. So young though. Wish I could experience that again but as someone with a far better trained ear for hearing music.
It is priceless to see new people be amazed at the precision and song writing. Melodic Metal it is….

Listened to this album more than 300 times, and this song blows my mind every fucking time!! So glad you love it.
One - being alone after tragic war
Fade to Black - suicide
Sanitarium - feeling like you are locked up in a cell
And JUSTICE FOR ALL...our unfair judicial system.
My favorite is To Live is To Die.
I look forward to more Metallica reactions.
Orion is my favorite as a guitar player! The first 5 LP's really...
shortest straw!!!my life!
@danperez6685 This is also one of my favorite. My son's middle name is Orion. They need to make a VR roller coaster game to this song.
As an addict in recovery, I whole heartedly agree!
If you think those riff changes are phenomenal, listen to “The Leper Affinity” by Opeth.
Yep, spot on. The music perfectly reflects what the song is all about and takes you on that ride sonically..... cheers.
You speak the truth, my dude. I hope you’re doing well!
@@nickrizzo4635 I'm a chick, but yep, I'm good here😉
This is priceless entertainment.
Finally! Someone with some god damn sense!

Imagine being 11 years old in '86 at your first concert, and the first song played is Battery!😎🤘 (I'm still looking for the rest of my mind in the floor and on the walls of that coliseum.🤯)
It was a instant classic the minute it was released in 1986. You can thank Cliff Burton for the dynamics and arrangement.
Cliff is the absolute best bassist ever, his song writing is beyond underrated!
RIP Cliff
R.I.P. ClFF we miss you

They fell off so hard after Cliff. From Black to their latest stuff, it's never been as good as the first 3 albums.

Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Ride The Lightning, Kill Em All, Seek And Destroy, The Four Horsemen, One, Harvester Of Sorrow, Sanitarium, Blackened, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Until It Sleeps, the list goes on
I started liking Metalica when they did the black album. I got to listen to their first S&M concert live on the radio...
Great list, but I'd add a couple more. I think the opening riff, and the one that follows "war without end" in No Remorse are still 2 of the heaviest riffs I've heard. Disposable Heroes kicks your teeth in, too.
Early Metallica was on another level. Chills everytime I hear this track.
Your reaction when you realize it’s about addiction is priceless.
I get chills every time I hear this song. Including this time. It is truly electric!
It's even more haunting now
no, anon.
it's addiction from the demon's perspective.
@@freezingcathedral it is from the drugs perspective THE master of puppets.
It is absolutely from the perspective of the drug or other source of addiction. Pay attention to when it's using I and Me, and what's being said with it.
"Taste ME you will see
More is all you need
Dedicated to
How I'm killing you"
Basically try me and you'll be on the hook and want more.
My son is an addict and it has a whole other connotation for me than it did before.
The build up from the solo back into the song is one of the best transitions in metal history. These guys were the absolute GOATS of metal.
when are you coming back to MELTDOWN
James Hetfield is the king of downpicking.
You played for Luda? Like, the rapper?
That is bad ass!
this was 'normal' for metal kids growing up in the 80s. imagine being 15 years old blasting an entire album of this over and over
Yes we did. It was amazing.
I need more Blunt in my life. It's like listening to all these songs again vicariously through him.
The highs and lows of addiction felt intensely through the musical genius of Metallica!🤘👊

The end of every other bar is in 7/8, but it's not "written" in 7/8, Lars just kinda thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if we did this?"
It's creates this frenetic start-and-stop sound which reflects the subject matter perfectly.
Keep it up!

Peace

Seen that tour in Tampa with Those three, Kingdom Come and Dokken also.
GREAT REACTION. I almost peed in the beginning too. 😆
It’s not a person or the media or whoever pulling the strings and then drugging someone.
THAT SHITS WACK.
@@JP-yt3nk Debbie Downer... No need to be critical Keyboard Warrior.
I just saw them with my daughter in Vegas earlier this year… they were awesome.
I was a massive Metallica fan growing up but don't listen to them a lot anymore. It brings me great joy to rediscover this song along with you. 1980's Metallica was on an entirely different level.
The off beat is a head trip! Check out and justice for all, and also One. There earlier albums will stick with me forever... great reaction!
BRO! This is by far the best reaction to Metallica I have ever watched. I am sure that you felt the meaning of this song.
Great reaction man! Next song I highly suggest from them is called “One” I suggest doing the lyric video though cause the video itself interrupts the music, all the instrumental parts and epic ness of the song itself. If you know what I’m saying
You NEED to check out "one" by Metallica, very dark song but a masterpiece nonetheless. Nothing can prepare you for that monster.
Do you suggest the lyrics only or the video version. ( i like the lyrics version for a first timer)
My $0.02 :)
I usually have another window open with the song lyrics just in case . 😂 I learned my lesson when I first heard a heavy metal song
@@TooBlunt I remember, you did one american group then a few weeks later the russian group about babayagga....
I was pretty sure someone would have requested the song “One” which is probably my favourite. “Nothing Else Matters” is another great one.
Watching you react to this let me remember how I felt when I heard this when it first came out. Lots of chills. Thank you.
This is "old School Thrash Metal" from the early 80's, there's a whole genre of bands you never heard of waiting for you. I envy you....enjoy!!! 👍🤓👍
@Clockwork Yokai Yup, plus you have all the bands and other sub-genres that spouted from this point in time. Search "Metal" Genre's and take a look at all the wonderful categories there are to delve into, it's fantastic. 👍👍👍👍
If you want your mind truly blown then play this album all the way through in chronological order.
This was the second song I ever played all the way through, in time. Holds a lot of memories for me. Thanks for doing a reaction video, so a new generation can be warped by the music I grew up listening to!
Check out the live version of For Whom the Bell Tolls, with the symphony. It’s breathtaking!
I need that entire album in studio version.
Impressive reaction! I’ve never seen you before. Metallica does it all. Try Sanitarium. It’s a beautiful banger!
Thanks for the comment :) and I’ll be diving deep into this band. My first listen blew my mind
@@TooBlunt They’re legendary for a reason.
Looking forward to more from you.
He missed the meaning of the song, the puppet master is drugs..
