Yeeeeah waking up to see yourself in the mirror and dissociate because you don't recognize the image anymore stings. Especially when a close one says "you are loved" but you feel like they love the you they used to know. Trying hard to find my way back.
I was 16 in 1989, when I heard this song for the first time. I was dark and depressed, the sentence Emptiness is filling me described exactly what I was feeling. Knowing that someone understood me helped a lot. ❤

This masterpiece dropped in 1984. Written by an emotionally distraught 20/21 year old, who had gone through hell. The loss of his mother, their equipment being stolen. So he sits down and writes this absolute gem. A song that almost 40 years later resonates with 10s of millions on the same frequency. Different reasons why, but still a shared energy. I was 16 or so the first time I heard it. And I was just blown away. 28 years later, I still feel the same way about it. The emotion. The energy. The musicality. A thrash metal band writing one of the greatest songs in music history, and it's set to this tempo. It was brave. ....It was necessary.
I know many people say this shit, but if aliens ever come to earth, I'm STRONGLY advocating this is the first song we present to then. Metal has lots of roots in all types of music, from classical to rock, obviously. And the lyrics are a perfect demonstration of how easy to break humans are, but at the same time THE SONG UTSELF ITSELF was enough to save many people from very painful funerals for their loved ones. It's an absolute masterpiece in its composition AND meaning in culture
Back in the day when this song came out there was no mental health awareness. We were basically told to get over it in a way. This song made us all see we were not alone and that alone helped many of us get through life.
I know these stories are a dime a dozen, but this song actually saved my life when I was a teenager. I would put my headphones on and drift. Thank you for maybe exposing a new generation to some of the best music ever played.
Me also. This song has brought me out of the darkness on more than one occasion. Something as simple as realizing that you are not the only one that feels that way. I got Metallica tatooed on my arm when I was 16 yrs old. I am 49 now. So thankful that I was able to live through that period. There was nothing like going to get their albums the day they were released. It was magical!
Out of many reaction channels, I find your well articulated intelligence and depth of consideration and thought about what you're listening to is quite refreshing to see. So thank you for that. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos, especially your more indepth look at heavy metal in general.
@@TooBlunt You're quite welcome, Dude. Keep up the good work and keep forging ahead on your musical journey. Might I suggest "Mother" by Danzig and "Walk" by Pantera? I think you might enjoy those two. For a Metallica deep cut, have a listen to "Dyer's Eve". You won't be disappointed.
Something I love about this song is that the cause of the depression is never stated. Usually it's a breakup, or a death, but in Fade to Black it's left unmentioned. This really just allows everyone to connect to the song no-matter the situation as the causation is different but the emotions that ensue are shared. This just allows people like me to relate to it even more.
THAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL INTERPRETATION OF THIS SONG I THINK I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!! Thank you for that. I think I have a newly found love for this song and it’s one of my favorite of all time!
Been through this, and where he sings “I was me,but now he’s gone” was exactly the way I felt. You’re not yourself during this, that the “me” really does feel the way it is.
I saw an interview with James one time where he was saying that right after this album came out. He went over to this girls house that he didn't know very well and her sister kept playing this song over and over. Neither one of them knew that it was James who sang the song. The girls sister kept saying with tears in her eyes " This song means something to this person. " He never told them it was him.
The amount of times that I’ve seen people say that this song *saved* them is a testament to the brilliance and sincerity of the track. Side note, this is one of my favourite songs and the solo in the outro is epic.
My number one, all-time favorite song by Metallica. This is the first song of theirs I ever listened to, and it literally saved my life. I was a teen, lost and spiraling into a hole I saw no way out of. Hearing this song let me know I wasn't alone and gave me something to cling to. I'm finally getting to see them live in November, and I can't wait. I still struggle, and when the demons are too loud for me to hear anything else, I play this song (as well as others that I've found over the years that resonate in my soul) and it helps me remember how far I've come and that I'm not alone. Peace and love to everyone, and if you read this, you're not alone.
I pray you find Jesus my sister, throw your burdens upon him, there is nothing too much for him. Read the Bible it's God's love letter to us. He loves you. There's a certain kind of peace in knowing that God has a plan for you. You are not alone Jesus is with you, you just have to acknowledge that he is with you. With Jesus by your side, yes there will be storms, but they don't seem as bad because you know God is in control, just have to trust in Him and His plan. Much love and stay blessed 🙌 😇 keep your head up.
MAN - I'm a long-time Metalica fan (even saw them open for Ozzy back in the day!), and I used to hear Fade To Black every day. I was working in Camden, NJ in 1986 fixing up houses to sell and a radio station in Philly used to play it several times every day. Fast forward to 2013 when I was handed a 2-to-5-year death sentence, no thanks to ALS (AKA Lou Gehrig's disease). Here I am, 10 years later, and I hadn't heard this song in like 15 years, not knowing how important and poignant it would be to me later in life. Thanks to the legalization of cannabis, my progression has slowed to the point my neurologist says I'm "stabilized." Now, there comes a time for everyone with this horrific affliction where the only nerves left functioning are the eyes - a condition known as being "locked in." (All the while, the patient is acutely aware of what's happening because ALS only attacks the distant motor neurons, but not the eyes). I'm not sure what the future holds...I may need to turn it all off at some point, but my current train of thoughts insist that, even in the face of such palpable horror, never EVER give up on hope.
Kudos to your parents man! Your reaction got this nearly 50 years old dude to tears. This song was one of my anthems in my youth. Now I've done well in my life, but there's always this little melancholy bastard in me that still loves this stuff and stuff related to it. Thank you.
I’ve been a huge Metallica fan since 1985 and the serenity this song gives me has never changed. It’s message is one thing but the melodic beauty of the music is beautiful. It has saved many many lives. When played live James usually says to the audience - you are not alone. Reach out for help.
I stumbled on your channel, part of the TH-cam mechanism. The video first didn't impress, because it had no introduction. But i watched it anyways. You paused at key points, which kept me watching. This song, I've known, performed, and played for over 30 years - your explanation of it is rather unique. Especially the interplay between lyrics and guitars. Hats off my brother. Keep the content coming.
I was 14 when this album came out and going through some very dark times, this song saved me. Every word in the lyrics was what I was feeling but the final solo was so inspiring, so uplifting so impactful that it showed me that there was a little light within the darkness and there was hope... I'm 53 now and have had battled depression all my life yet this song is my life line...
Very well said. This song is genius and the reactions to it in the 80's and early 90's was so stupid, this isn't a song about death it's quite the opposite. The lyrics are dark but the musicianship and they way the song is structured is very insipiring and uplifting. Like a warm glove that surruonds you in the darkness, just holding on for one more day. Feelings dont last forever, just hang on. I'm your age and while I didnt get Metallica into my late teens (And Metallica hardly heard or seen in Australia until Justice for All) this song and Ride the Lightening always makes me somehow feel glad to be alive. I can imagine living in a world without this music and how glum and unsatisifying life would be. I hope your finding ways to cope to mental illness, it's been a battle most of my life, a battle I'm finding easier to fight as I'm in my 50's.
@@Tbirdtrav71 hey, thanks for replying... it's always cool meeting a fellow 50 something Metallica fan. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada... which according to the rest of Canada and the world might as well be Australia. They all think Canada ends in Montreal... LoL!!! Speaking of Montreal, I got to see Metallica Aug 11 and 13th and another great band on the 12th, The Warning. What a weekend!!! Yeah getting older sure does help, knowing that "It's not the end of the world" and to just give "It" time really helps. I still deal with depression but it's not as "dire" as it was because I know how it works and it won't last and those thoughts of doom and gloom are a thing of the past. Music is the greatest anti-depressant and Metallica is my prescription...
I am 55 and remember exactly where I was, (sitting on the floor of my friend Chris room) how things smelled, what I was wearing, etc when I heard this for the first time at about 16. . All my senses on were on high alert. This song spoke to my soul. I was me, then I was gone, over and over through my life. I am barely me now, but still here somehow.
As a teenager and as an adult going through the darkest times in my life, this song carried me through to see the light of a new day many times! Thanks for this reaction! 🤟❤️
What a selfless, kind… review of this song……. Don’t change!!!!! Your parents did a great job. And you’re not corny…… You’re awesome!!! We need more out there such as yourself…….
I have never heard anyone give a take on Fade to Black the way you have and it was absolutely amazing my friend. Thanks to you, have a new found respect for this song.
I think it is so beautiful. The darkness and hardness combined with the beautiful, melodic softness. I’ve been listening to it for decades and it never gets old. There was a time when this song eased my pain knowing that my struggle was understood by someone else and it keeps me in touch with the depths from which I’ve come and reminds me of how truly blessed my life is now. I doubt life would seem as sweet today without having gone through it. I’m so glad I didn’t give up. The darkest hour is truly just before the dawn.
You are the first person I've heard give the same interpretation I picked up on. When I was 17, I tried to end it. This song was playing at the moment I was trying, and I heard the "push back" you spoke of. I'm now 50 years old. This song literally saved my life.
My favorite song by my favorite band. Absolutely hammers in my ‘04 F-150 8200 GVW. Has an Alpine stereo, 10,000 watts, 13 Alpine amplifiers, 16 vocal speakers, 6 10” subwoofers, dual alternators, Alpine alarm, separate self built alarm for the amplifiers and so much More.
I love it when people start really listening to metal and get it. Growing up my parents HATED this music, but so many of us really understood the depth and beauty of the music I wish metal would come back, I think it’s a great outlet for people
So excited that you're reacting to this one. This song has saved so many lives. James wrote it after all their gear was stolen, including the amp his mother gave him before dying from cancer when James was still a teenager. If you don't mind a recommendation, I would love to see you give Alice In Chains a reaction. They were going to tour together but Layne (front man) was in no condition to tour so it was called off. Alice in Chains are a phenomenal band with some amazing music. Fun fact they had the first ever EP to debut at number one on the Billboard charts and that EP was written and recorded in a week. A good introductory song for them is Would. The music video works since it'll help you to distinguish between Jerry and Layne singing. Those harmonies are simply beautiful.
Oh please react to AIC. They never disappoint. It’s hard to believe that Layne’s birthday was a few days ago… another phenomenal talent who lost the fight with his demons. I hope he’s finally at peace.
Brother. . . You're the first response to this song that talks about the pushback of the music to "Fight" what he's singing in the verses. Beautiful interpretation, and thank you so much for the positive message at the end. Bless you, brother.
Longtime Metallica fan since 85. I really like your interpretation, man you totally get it. Another angle altogether. On another note this song as a 15 year old Florida kid on acid, was an unreal experience. Thanks for your positive message also…
Bro im a 44 yr old white boy from wv that just likes good music and Metallica is my all time favorite and Ride the Lightning is the best album imo.Dyers Eve is my favorite Metallica song.Fade to Black has always spoken to me.i wont go into what i did but it still gets me after 30 years.anyway i just wanted to say your interpretation of the song blew my mind.never be sorry for being so insightful.God be with you and keep listening to good shit
This is such a masterful song. Composition and lyrical content are just off the charts. It pulls at the heart strings. People back in the day tried to censor the song saying it would encourage s*I cide when in fact it did the total opposite for many others including myself. Art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. I just want to say to everyone that it will one day get better. It pains me greatly to think of what I almost threw away to try and escape from my trauma. I have a whole lifetime ahead of me and I feel blessed to live it. You got this and I’m rooting for you!
Thanks for leaving a comment :) and it shocks that they tried to ban this song. I never once had a feeling or thought that it was promoting sui**de. I find that this happens a lot in songs that actually help people through their traumas.
This song and others helped me a lot in high school early 90s coming from a broken home, violence, drugs etc and running the streets in and out of boys homes. Love your insight on this.
@2Blunt Thank you for this reaction. I’ve seen a lot of them to this song. Yours is honestly original. Talking about how the instruments stand in contrast to the lyrics. Very insightful.
You’re not alone in that. This song has saved so many lives. There’s something so comforting about this piece. The lyrics assure you that you’re not alone in your despairing thoughts and the music envelopes you with warmth.
The ending instrumentals feeling like a battle in the throws of death is so painful. Your interpretation is so beautiful. It's a spiral down which I thought was the sad part, but if there was no battle it would be a fall. Thank you man.
I love your appreciation of the musical orchestration of these dudes. They brought in a whole new dimension. I love watching you appreciate it too, bro.
Thanks for the comment and happy you enjoyed the video ! Metallica definitely took me on a few trips. And I’m finding now how versatile they are. It’s simply amazing!
Listened to this song for 30-something years and never had the thought that after each verse or the chorus that the music following was the energy saying no dont do it. thanks for the new perspective! awesome man
This was the first album I bought in my life, along with "kill em all" since that moment Metallica has accompanied me... from the age of 14 to date, today at 41 I am lucky to have seen them live at least 8 times. Thank you Metallica... and greetings to all the largest family in the world from Argentina
I lost my mom 2 years ago and it still hurts like hell. She was my best friend. This sing makes me think alot. Good and bad. But like you said, I'm hanging in there. Barely.
These are reaction videos done right. Just found you tonight, I usually avoid these... glad I clicked. I was there when this song first came out and it was in my collection on day one... and you have actually given me new perspective on this song.
I'm so late to your channel, but, you hit the nail on the head. I've been through this shit, and this song makes me cry every time I hear it. You are right. The music matches the intensity of your feelings perfectly. You can't describe it to someone that hasn't gone through it, but it is the SAME. God bless you brother
It's crazy how much this guy looks like my friend who loves the Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets albums. 😄 He also has a big heart like this man.
Man TooBlunt, this is the best, most insightful reaction to this song I’ve ever seen. I think you’re on point with your interpretation of the song. The lyrics and the instruments complement each other, but they clearly reflect the battle within. Such a powerful song. Performed live, Hetfield, sometimes gives a heartfelt message about suicide. “You are not alone”. -Papa Het
This song resonates so deeply with me because of roughly 10 years of one thing after another. It's also such a beautiful melody. I'm in a wonderful place now.❤😊. However I did attempt said thing. This song dragged me through it. I love the optimistic crescendo at the end. I always have to see what you think of Metal.😊
That's why Metallica stands above all other metal bands. They give you so many different styles of metal. They're thrash, groove, sludge, tempo, melodic. One of the great bands of all-time.
It starts as depression and wanting to end life but at the ending part of the song depression is pushed away and says "goodbye" to the demons! Great review! The diversity of Metallica is so much, to so many people, and their songs can touch just about everyone. They are the best band ever IMO!
I was born in 91, just like many people, i had very bad experiences while growing up. Growing up and in the 90s, therapy wasn't a very common thing, so you'll be bouncing off the walls with everything you feeling. Coming from a house where my dad was a violent alcoholic person and my mother didn't really care about me and my 3 sisters, i took the decision of ending my life at the age of 9. Idk why or how, my neighbor who was 21 at that time, saw that i was struggling with all that shit and ill never forget his words "i don't know what to say, i was never good with words but before you do anything, listen to this song. It helped me on my most dark days. I hope it can do the same for you" I'm 34 now and I never was able to thank him for how he changed my mindset that day.
I think what makes this song stand out is how it shows that in despair, we lie to ourselves. James said said he had no reason to live, and that he had nothing more to give. But he kept fighting, and gave the world decades of great music ❤️ ;
I'm sorry friend, I have run out of time to catch up on your posts. I guess I didn't realize how busy you have been on here. Also, I just want to say I thoroughly enjoy how much you have embraced the more metal/rock genres. I remember previous discussions where you seemed quite leary, and I (and others) tried to convince you of the beauty and poeticism of the genre. It can truly bring out a whole plethora of emotions, and I'm so glad you did what you do and just dove in with an open mind.
This song changed my life when I happened to download it using Limewire 20 years ago. I was a depressed high schooler and finding heavy metal gave me the support I needed.
You're spot on! Your analysis really resonates with me! I've had both my childhood best friend as well as my own mother trying to end their lives, without success I'm happy to say. ♥
I ended up here on your channel because I was having a panic attack and thought watching people enjoy life would pick me up out of this depressive state. Don’t worry everyone my will to live is strong and in no way would ever injure myself. Your take on this song is perfect, the voice in your head can bring hard and confusing thoughts but when the solos kick in, that is the way out of the dark place. It is showcasing passion, creativity, technical ability. As the solos get progressively more technical we get closer to overcoming the lyricist and the song ends with the solo fading out, leaving the impression that the darkness was overcome
Sir, you are so correct! I am 54 yrs old n life long Metallica fan, first heard them on Metal Massacre comp album. When Fade to Black came out, I was what 17ish n it said my life, I wanted to just check out. Listening to gave me hope, you just lost n the beautiful melody at the end n calms you down. It got a bad rap in the media that it was causing suicide n couldn't be farther from the truth, saved alot of us! N I Love that James uses it at shows to let people they are not alone, WE ARE THE METALLICA FAMILY!
I saw this video, and picked up my guitar and played along. It’s been 15 years since I’ve played this song on guitar, and your insight made playing this again the most fun I ever had playing it.
I can appreciate the fact you actually stopped and actually listened to the words. Song has a lot of meaning to me. Strange few days, I keep hearing music about death, or from artists no longer with us and even actors like Robin Williams. Randomly found your reaction. Well deserved like. 👍🏻
Hi, this is the first time I've seen your videos. Thank you for your support, this song became very important to me, I have heard it years ago, but a while ago its meaning became my reality, before I was a young boxer with a life, then everything went to hell, I fell into a very strong depression, my body changed oneathletic to one who is very overweight. I was left alone. one night after work, I was reaching a very dark point and crying I thought about ending everything once and for all, the playlist put this song on I listened to it while I cried, and I thought that I didn't want to end up like this, being a shadow of what I once was. I still have depression, but... I decided that I have to go back, to everyone who read me at this time, guys, look for help, look for something to hold on to and keep fighting.
Your take on this song is incredible! Thank you! I've been listening to this track for 25 years, and you just put a finger on why it has resonated with me for so long. Your review, brought a fresh light on a track I've loved since childhood. Thank you. That was an amazing review. God bless you, God sir.
Why should I even try? Because of the beautiful music that followed those sad, sad lyrics. You absolutely nailed it with your perspective. If you focus on the words, they're as melancholy as they come, but the music is so beautiful and powerful, and it is reaching into you, even in that dark place, and you can't help but feel it, and hopefully realize that as dark as it seems, there is beauty touching your life. Thanks for your video. You got yourself a new subscriber.
Love the video bro, I appreciate your positive energy. This song is one that gives me hope and the strength to keep pushing through even though this journey gets hard. I listen to this song like everyday lol I love Metallica. Keep going down the rabbit hole my friend, Nice jamming with you bro ‼️🔥
When I feel down and listen to this song, the verses can tell more or less how I feel and that's empathy. When the solos come afterwards, as you said, I also feel a lot of push back. And in the final solo I feel like I'm free from my pain. Such a great sense of release. Thanks for your review. It helped me explain some unknown feelings. 💯
Thanks for the comment :) Every time I see your user name I have a small panic attack 🤣 R 777 is a command we use in IT to change permission and my mind for some reason freaks out when I see it in my notifications
Metallica is a great band. There was a marked maturation from Kill ‘em All to Ride the Lightning. Kill ‘em All is a very good album with some fantastic songs, but they’re mostly similar tempo and Kirk’s solos have some similarities. Each successive album to And Justice for all increased their complexities of songwriting - riffs, melodies and lyrics.
One of their best, and it’s on their second album. And yes, it has helped lots of people express thoughts they had that they never acted upon, because the song makes us feel less alone in our despair. Even if the message is of darkness and pain and loss, and a lot of James Hetfield’s lyrics are, they give us a way to get that energy out. Doesn’t help to have some of the greatest solos Kirk Hammet has ever played on the song too, there’s a reason Hetfield calls him The Ripper. If you want similar tracks lyrically from them, “Bleeding Me” or the trio of “Unforgiven” songs would be good to see you listen to. If you prefer a more up song or two, “Fuel” can get you pumped, “Nothing Else Matters” can make you feel connected, and “Atlas Rise!” is good to shout along to.
This song is about James getting his Marshall amp stolen that his mom bought for him. His dad left and his mom died of cancer. She refused treatment. That amp was one of the last thing he had of her. I saw I’m in Arlington a couple of weeks ago. Yes they played this. 🤘
I grew up in this came out. I was going through epilepsy and I was alone and my family and my parents. I don't even know you're. My town taught me that I wasn't good enough. So sometimes listening to this music helped me. When I was alone I wish that everything could have been different.I wish I could have been better for my family for my town.
"emptiness is filling me, to the point of agony." that line always stood out to me. that dicodomy of being alone even when surrounded by other people... by feeling pain where others all seeminly have joy. how can you be filled with emptiness? surprisingly, for anyone that's ever battled with depression, emptiness is quite filling, and it can get you so full as to feel agony. I never thought of it in these terms until I heard this song, but that line sums up a lot of feelings... emptiness is filling me, to the point of agony. powerful stuff...
dude im 51 ive been listening to this band since I was 16 years old and I never thought of this in the way you just explained how you saw it. I know this band has always been a consistent force in my life and you gave me a new perspective. so yeah dont apologize for how you interpet something. everyone picks up something different depending on what type of life experiences youve had and music no matter the genre is just another stylistic approach at expressing how we feel when we look at a piece of art or listen to it. its wherever it takes you to and thats your truth and my truth and everyones truth is his own. blah blah I know always a good reaction from you friend.
Bro, Tom Mac vids brought me here and Phil C kept me here, I been a Metallica fan since 1984 and this song made me a fan for life. Your interpretation is exactly how I always took the song too. Those powerful solos are inspirational, and uplifting. As a person who has been down there, it is always that little something in life that keeps you going. They could have let the song die dark, but they ended it with twin solos on a high note. I always thought that was purposeful.
Bro I been listening to this song basically since the day it came out and I’ve never thought about heard the guitar being explained that way. Great video!!!
You are the only person I’ve ever seen or heard that feels the uplifting feeling that I’ve always felt in that song!!! That song has always filled me with hope and happiness.
You do a great job man.. I see so many reactions and yours is well something i didnt expect, cant explain it either. But great job, great words, i jist started listening to you tonight as i just found you. Respect and admiration for you end of song words, love, wisdom💯
This song took a gun out of a lot of people's mouths.
Wow that was very specific
Also put a lot in them
"I was me, but now he's gone" has always really struck me. I think a lot of people in the throws of mental health issues feel exactly like that.
I felt exactly that.
Yeah that lyric sums up that headspace perfectly. The feeling of having lost yourself.
same here

I think this song has helped a lot of depressed people.
It pushed some over the edge as well.
It did help when my sister tried to commit suicide years ago… Sadly she passed away last year
It's helped me and continues to help me through some dark times.

I feel like it saved quite a few of us. So glad you are still here

Thank you for the feedback :) there’s a lot more to come. You guys make the entire journey so much better!

Please don't stop...
Well put. My 4th video watching in a row from him : totally agree.
"I was me but now he's gone" - is still one of the most powerful lyric lines I've ever heard...
I would really enjoy hanging out with you and just jam. I'm a 49 year old metal head. Nice to see more young people getting into Metallica.
In James' case, his mother has died and, the day they wrote it, they had their equipment stolen. Just so you know.
Thanks for sharing! I’m happy you made it through that time. I hope all is well on your end friend
Hollow
I saw an interview with James one time where he was saying that right after this album came out. He went over to this girls house that he didn't know very well and her sister kept playing this song over and over. Neither one of them knew that it was James who sang the song. The girls sister kept saying with tears in her eyes " This song means something to this person. " He never told them it was him.
The amount of times that I’ve seen people say that this song *saved* them is a testament to the brilliance and sincerity of the track.
Side note, this is one of my favourite songs and the solo in the outro is epic.
Ditto
Yeah so true.
aw it kills me every time as it fades, I'm, nooooooooooooo, I just want it to keep going
Thanks to the legalization of cannabis, my progression has slowed to the point my neurologist says I'm "stabilized."
Now, there comes a time for everyone with this horrific affliction where the only nerves left functioning are the eyes - a condition known as being "locked in." (All the while, the patient is acutely aware of what's happening because ALS only attacks the distant motor neurons, but not the eyes). I'm not sure what the future holds...I may need to turn it all off at some point, but my current train of thoughts insist that, even in the face of such palpable horror, never EVER give up on hope.
Thanks for leaving a comment, I’m happy your here with us today ! Thanks for sharing your story and I hope all is well with you :) . Stay strong ! ❤️
Kudos to your parents man! Your reaction got this nearly 50 years old dude to tears. This song was one of my anthems in my youth. Now I've done well in my life, but there's always this little melancholy bastard in me that still loves this stuff and stuff related to it. Thank you.
To everyone struggling, please know there is a better way and a beautiful life ahead.
In the words of James himself:
"if you're struggling. Deep inside. Know, that you're not alone"
I’ve been a huge Metallica fan since 1985 and the serenity this song gives me has never changed. It’s message is one thing but the melodic beauty of the music is beautiful. It has saved many many lives. When played live James usually says to the audience - you are not alone. Reach out for help.
And I love that you are listening to one of the greatest bands of all time
I stumbled on your channel, part of the TH-cam mechanism.

This song has been my medicine for nearly my whole life
As a teenager and as an adult going through the darkest times in my life, this song carried me through to see the light of a new day many times! Thanks for this reaction! 🤟❤️

What a selfless, kind… review of this song…….
Don’t change!!!!!
Your parents did a great job.
And you’re not corny……
You’re awesome!!!
We need more out there such as yourself…….
I have never heard anyone give a take on Fade to Black the way you have and it was absolutely amazing my friend. Thanks to you, have a new found respect for this song.
Best Metallica song. And incidentally the very first Garage Metal ballad.
It's why it's my go to song when the battle gets hard bc I feel him pushing back against the thoughts
Growing up my parents HATED this music, but so many of us really understood the depth and beauty of the music
I wish metal would come back, I think it’s a great outlet for people
So excited that you're reacting to this one.

This specific song is what made me love Metallica. Hit me just right at the right time. Beautiful, every day.
Brother. .
Thanks for your positive message also…
I saw them in 1988 , Monsters of Rock @ Cotton Bowl, Dallas TX & they were incredible; In Justice for All my favorite album.
You’re a good person. This song saved my life in 1998. Every now and then, I listen to it to remind myself that there’s still hope.
This song and others helped me a lot in high school early 90s coming from a broken home, violence, drugs etc and running the streets in and out of boys homes. Love your insight on this.
@2Blunt
Thank you for this reaction. I’ve seen a lot of them to this song. Yours is honestly original. Talking about how the instruments stand in contrast to the lyrics.
Very insightful.
Thank you pal :). And as I listened the song literally made me feel the resistance
A kind word or warm hug can go a long way mire than people realize
This is the song that brought me back from the brink. This song saved so many lives. Love your appreciation and astuteness.
You’re not alone in that. This song has saved so many lives. There’s something so comforting about this piece. The lyrics assure you that you’re not alone in your despairing thoughts and the music envelopes you with warmth.
Ditto hello from Cody Wyoming
The ending instrumentals feeling like a battle in the throws of death is so painful. Your interpretation is so beautiful. It's a spiral down which I thought was the sad part, but if there was no battle it would be a fall. Thank you man.
What a beautiful way to describe when you was saying how the music pushes back against the lyrics. Just makes me appreciate this song so much more.

I was 13 when this came out and it immediately grabbed me. This song is still my favorite. I told my wife to play this at my funeral.
He also has a big heart like this man.
lol maybe I am him 🤔
This is the first reaction video i’ve watched from you. I have now subscribed because you are wonderful! I love your attention to detail. 💜
Im glad you're still here 💘🥰 Hang in there 😊
Happy you’re here with us today Joann :) thank you for leaving a comment
@@TooBlunt You keep people going you know. Keep sending out that love, it's important. ❤️😊
❤️❤️❤️
awesome dude. you are not corny you nailed it. this is the fist time i heard an extra "goodbye" from the vocals at the end.
ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO! Metallic ❤️❤️❤️
I never got to 😢 I did get to see, White Zombie,Korn, Pantera, Disturbed and Chevelle though. So I did pretty good!
Hello from Cody Wyoming...seen them 5 times, SO MUCH BETTER LIVE😊
Amazing! Heartfelt reaction. Thank you. From a Metallica fan who's been around, since the beginning of Metallica🤘
I think what makes this song stand out is how it shows that in despair, we lie to ourselves. James said said he had no reason to live, and that he had nothing more to give. But he kept fighting, and gave the world decades of great music ❤️
;
I was left alone. one night after work, I was reaching a very dark point and crying I thought about ending everything once and for all, the playlist put this song on I listened to it
while I cried, and I thought that I didn't want to end up like this, being a shadow of what I once was.
Perfectly analyzed. You got it 100 percent!!!
Never seen your channel before, but you have a positive attitude many of us need. FTB is an awesome song, lyrically and musically. Peace
Great explanation of how this song is both dark and hopeful. It's a song I know well, and it's been comfort to me at times. Thanks
Thanks for the comment :) Every time I see your user name I have a small panic attack 🤣 R 777 is a command we use in IT to change permission and my mind for some reason freaks out when I see it in my notifications
Sorry. It's after the Boeing 777. I've probably done this to other IT professionals, lol.@@TooBlunt
Lool got it got it. I’ll try not to panic next time 🤣
Metallica is a great band.
I need to listen to all of their albums. I’m hooked!
And they were in their early 20's when they wrote and released this song/album!
I LOVE how you interperate the music and meaning!
Amazing!
Metallica is my favorite band and you are the first reactor that interpreted the solo as pushback. I thank you for that.
Good job Too Blunt. MET4EVER 🎸🤘🔥🇺🇸💯 Metallica Fan Since 1983❤
Im nearly67 and suffered from depression for a lot of years. Metallica are my favourite band and this song has got me through a lot of times
This song is about James getting his Marshall amp stolen that his mom bought for him. His dad left and his mom died of cancer. She refused treatment. That amp was one of the last thing he had of her. I saw I’m in Arlington a couple of weeks ago. Yes they played this. 🤘
Thank you for doing this song. Really needed to hear it today. First time to your channel and gonna sub. Love the way you looked at it
40 yrs later this song still helps me.
I just wanted to commend yout final thoughts on this song and how you put yourself out there for other people. Very impressed with you
I grew up in this came out.
Great review!! So much music/ bands to explore for you 🤘🏼
dude im 51 ive been listening to this band since I was 16 years old and I never thought of this in the way you just explained how you saw it.
Great reaction bro. Amazing track ❤
Thanks for the comment :) and I’m happy you made it through those dark time ❤️
I love your deep thought in your reactions man, never change that
Thanks pal :) happy you enjoyed
Bro I been listening to this song basically since the day it came out and I’ve never thought about heard the guitar being explained that way. Great video!!!
You are the only person I’ve ever seen or heard that feels the uplifting feeling that I’ve always felt in that song!!! That song has always filled me with hope and happiness.
