Can you do one where you plug speakers into the mains in series with an electric fan heater. Then move up through the kW settings until they blow. Putting speakers in series with a kettle is also rather fun.

I think the most spectacular blowout would happen if you fed the sub a sine wave and used a thermal camera to monitor the coil temperature - then you could slowly rise the power until the coil gets warmer and warmer, but without blowing it - with a "slow burn" like that the cone could actually catch fire or the coil isolation could boil off and produce some serious short circuiting = sparks, smoke, all that good stuff.
I don't like perfectly good hardware being destroyed (if you could give it away to someone who'd still use it, that's better for everyone, including the planet), though I am glad you explained your reasons and want to just replace the cones in them.

Aaron bilger if you want to blow subwoofers a lot quicker use the wall outlet and not a pro audio amp because it takes longer to blow it with a pro audio amp and you run the risk of damaging a pro audio amp

I doubt that it’s a true 2000watts RMS that subwoofer was taking because I have a 3000watt Stetsom Amplifier and if I try to play bass I love you with any subwoofer it will blow it in the matter of seconds. Your subwoofer’s cone could’ve been popped out in a matter of a second. It’s sad that companies rate their amplifiers for a certain amount of watts and it’s not true.

so what? would you rather have a less awesome blowout or have your neighbors wake up and come to you with a gun? and plus, it would be less awesome if he let the cone move anyway, for once, it would move the coil and give it more ventillation, and wouldnt make as much smoke, and second, letting the cone move is a higher change of the wires ripping, which would give you no blowout at all.

Killer32620 I’d rather see the natural blow. The forced blow and holding the sub down is kind of annoying... doesn’t allow too to see excursion limits, etc. plus it’s always a thermal blow instead of a mechanical blow from overpower
