Wow. Kenwood ALWAYS uses red glue in their speakers. I have a Kenwood speaker that uses the same red glue to hold the terminal on the back of it. It was around the coil in this blown Kenwood subwoofer. Weird!
Kourkutas2 Kutsukuta those philips speakers where trash, the first sub was accepteble and the little dual coil speaker was so small it was almoxt useless.
I have a theory why the second coil of the small speaker came back to life. The first coil probably had the enamel burn off and short out. The second coil probably had the same thing happen to it, but since both may have been burnt to bare metal in similar places, they could possibly connect with each other, so the coils used each other to create a complete circuit, then it broke again... twice.
nik9094 the voice coil Is copper and the current going through it heats the wire up to the point that it will melt the coating off the wire. Just an fyi.
The coil is basically a extremely thin copper cable (I think they are generally around 28 gauge?) coated in some type of glue, and wrapped around the former (the metal piece that the coil sits on). It is actually just an electro magnet. Anyway, when you blow a speaker, the coil gets extremely hot, and eventually gets so hot that it melts and then burns the glue, and also burns the copper.
