They are factually not easy to hit. What you mean is you hit the middle of the face 95% of the time and your strike conditions are pretty optimal for you. So these clubs will feel like butter to you and give true consistent spin and distance numbers. What you're neglecting to say is the time you put a shite swing on it (2mm off centre) you will get a massive drop off in distance spin will be out the window and any poor strike conditions will be massively exacerbated by the huge lack of forgiveness these irons hold. In other words a 15 handicapper who flips a little bit and hits every part of the face will NOT think these are easy to hit. Or maybe you just wanted to humble brag 👀

1:35 - quick question. You tried to play a low fade with a 7 iron from 150yards. What did you adjust (from what you would do with a normal shot) in order to try and play this?

We’re all different but if that’s my goal I’ll club up so hit 7 instead of 8, have the ball a bit further back in the stance then normal, but more forward tilt on the shaft then normal.
Soft swing since clubbed up, out to in downswing and low hands on the finish

Great video, guys! Glad you enjoyed California - and how could you not?!
Collin plays the P770 in the 4-iron, I believe. And I think Tiger plays the P770 3-iron, or did at one point. One takeaway is that even the world's best ball-strikers won't say no to a little help. And don't forget that Collin switches from blades to cavity-back MCs in his short irons as well, for The Open and (I think) The Scottish Open. Although that's not because they're more forgiving, per se, but rather because of a very subtle difference in turf interaction. Well, maybe not so subtle. If I remember right, what he said was that, using the P730s in Scotland, he "couldn't find the center of the face." 😝
But among amateurs and pros, we're all different. I'm a 3 hcp, and I play big, fat, forgiving hollow-bodies in 5-7, blades in 8-PW, and then back to to a hollow-cavity CBX2 wedge in 52º...and then a bladed 58º wedge! So whatever gets it in the hole.

Started golfing in 2019. Im a decent to a really good athlete. Played high level hockey since 4 years old. Started off golf using Mizuno 919 forged at a 15 handicap. Following year switched to the P770s dropped down to a 12 and switched again to the Mizuno 921 Tours. I found absolutely no difference in "forgiveness". Its either I hit the shot or not. More variables in the the way I swing to make contact and all natural factors than the marginal "forgiveness" in hitting around the club face.

About Morikawa using the P7MC in the long iron and MBs is the short (Taylormade calls it P7CM), I think that this is just a publicity stunt. I bought the original P7MC and MB in 2020 and quite honestly, I don't think the MC is more forgiving. In fact, they play almost the same in my opinion, with the MC having a little bit more offset. Morikawa is not going to play better with the MC as the long iron.

Blades are the easiest to hit straight probably because there is no offset and the flight tends to be lower and penetrating. I can handle a few toe mis-hits because they still go straight. The biggest challenge is a long iron in thick rough, but the courses i play have rough that basically lifts the ball up on a tee. I'm short so ball striking is easier for me than tall players. I cannot play well with my son's stealth irons. They launch left with a slight draw, and when I try to fade the ball I cannot find any consistancy.

Colin is playing for a completely different reason to the average club golfer. It's his job, so I guess it's to be expected that he's going to use clubs within the realms of his contractual obligations that he gets the best numbers with. For the average club golfer, use blades or don't. I used a split set of MP-18 SC/MB with the 7-PW being MB and got from 17 to 11 this season, and 5 comp wins and runner up in the club champs. I love using them and yeah I hit bad shots, but i'd do that with any club. I just prefer to feel it when I do it.

  • @DylanJamesGolf
    @DylanJamesGolf ปีที่แล้ว +2

These aren’t hard to hit. Blades actually require to hit the center of the face thus improving your general strike, allowing you to have more consistent yardages and misses. I’m an 8.5 hcp and I hit these yesterday and have no issue finding the center. Do they suit my eye? No. The 7mcs do and feel better in my opinion, but I wouldn’t steer people away from blades without letting them feel the beauty of the center of the face. Nothing compares to the center of a blade. I love a small muscleback blade. I have mizuno 221's at the moment, these look like a worthy competitor from taylormade. My experience may not be the norm because my first set of irons were maxfli aussie blades when I was very young...but I keep coming back to blades because of the feedback. With more "forgiving" irons I seem to slowly develop bad habits without realizing it. With blades I know right away what is going on.

Why is the younger generation so scared of hitting a blade? Well not even a blade! just a muscle back in general and a forgiving muscle back like this one. Come on now.
This has to be the 10 billionth comment I've read where y'all are acting as if trying to hit one of these is going to decapitate you?
It's a blade either you can hit it or you can't but it sure is a great training tool to help you find the center of the face more often thus improving your overall ball striking.
What's the deal it's just a golf club. Don't be so scared good grief. Y'all are acting like it it's going to give you nightmares.
I used a set of Titleist zm blades at a 11 handicap and they taught me to come a much better ball Striker the pure feeling of finding the center of the club face is both buttery and trampoline like at the same time.

Split sets? I have 921 HMBs, I can't work these at all, unlike my previous irons, so should I have a split set? I rarely used to take a short iron around the corner, and a club with drop and stop is fine, any shaping on short irons was about stop. On long irons, yes, getting around trouble was sometimes useful, but they would always have been the game improvers.
Running chips, some argument for a bladier one, but I frankly take more full shots with my PW than need a tight chip. And I do have specialist wedges down to GW.
My switch is actually - summer, using the 4i as a driving iron, winter use the 4H.
Now, if Mizuno was to bring out a 7i HM that felt and looked exactly like the real one, but had blade-like sweet spot and feedback, for practice, hmm. But only an idiot would use it in competition.

People on TH-cam totally oversell how hard blades are to hit. I'm a 1-2 handicap and I find they are easier to hit than a cavity back. If I hit it bad enough that it's going to be a bad shot, having "forgiveness" isn't going to save me. I might as well have the greater shotmaking capabilities. Plus I find smaller heads easier to hit based on the way I swing.

The 7 mcs were the softest and close but the yardages you get in Miura are so tight it’s hard to compare. There are just no fliers or jumpers, good strike = good result. Although with that being said, I did ?upgrade? And get the tc-201s from the Black Friday sale. I couldn’t get the 502s because I felt they weren’t different enough.
