Knuckles' Chaotix is one of the few Sonic games that doesn't feature Sonic himself. The story differs between the English and Japanese versions of the instruction manual that came with the game, but they both involve Dr. Robotnik trapping Knuckles' friends on a special island. Knuckles must now save his friends and discover the mystery behind the island. The gameplay is similar to that of earlier Sonic games, with the added gimmick of being bound to a partner with an elastic tether, giving the game its reputation for wonky rubber band physics. After each stage, the next level and your next partner are selected via roulette.

I await the day that we finally get the Single Character Mode run, utilizing FFFCEA:00 to disable the Combi~Ring system: While Player 02 will consistently put the game into OHKO territory because of being detached (this ultimately makes many of the bosses harder in general play without a second controller), this truly makes for an interesting way to route every zone because of having to plan out which character gets used for specific acts; here are some notes regarding specific zones, based on my findings from 20I7:
~ Isolated Island (Practice) will crash if a Solo Character reaches a specific set of coordinates on the Y Axis due to Screen Wrapping, so this is a Proceed with Caution area when doing all playable zones.
~ Botanic Base V flat~out won't spawn the boss if in Single Character Mode, thus this act can be skipped in a run that solely uses the Level Select.
~ Most notably, Knuckles cannot be used without Debug Mode in Amazing Arena IV because of his Jump Height not being enough to reach a certain wall at the beginning when on the Pressure Spring that requires both characters; this act might be best optimized for Charmy or Vector, both make quicker work of this particular area and truly shows how Technical it can be in the Glitchless category.

Man what were the devs thinking when they went in this direction? It feels like Sega just really needed or wanted a flagship title with that couch co-op experience for their new add-on. The 2P functionality's writing checks that the gameplay can't cash.
