    I like that you brought up the point about not over valuing credits. If you know there is a good chance you might not get around to using them, they shouldn’t really enter into the equation to justify the annual fee.

      I agree. Other banks/companies bury their customer service numbers in their websites. You have go through a series of FAQ articles to say “no this doesn’t answer my question” to get the CS number. With Amex, the number is right under contact us.

    I love my Amex cards and I think Amex cards can be great, but you have to be on top of things to make sure you get great value from them. I don't think most people do enough research or optimize the benefits of the cards. I think for most people a Chase setup would benifit them more. But if you understand the game and you're disapline, Amex is Gold! (Or Platinum 😉)

    Canadian Platinum; $200 travel credit is big, then the immediate Gold Status at Bonvoy which can be status matched to a bunch of different places (Bonvoy Gold to Wyndham Platinum to Ceasers Platinum to M Life Gold, for Vegas), Lounges (which are ~$50 each time I'm in an airport), and really good insurance that prevents me from having to spend $150-$200 a trip for similar coverage are all huge. Then incidentals like extended warranty and purchase protection are quite minor, but nice perks. Then there's the other less used things like Fine Hotels and Resorts (which is good for a short stay for the upgrade and credits), the bang-on customer service, and all the insurance, the offers which returns anywhere from $50-$200 a year in free stuff I was going to buy anyway? Makes up for the annual fee and then some.

    I am interested in the premium rental car you can elect to purchase through your Amex card. It is primary coverage for your rental car for $25 per rental period, as long as it is no more than 41 days. How does it compare to the primary coverage with Chase, which has no up charge? I have used the Amex coverage, but never had to make a claim. Anyone ever had to make a claim? I understand there is no deductible.

      I do, however, have a very low-spend lifestyle in very rural America, so the high annual fee cards they offer just don’t suit us. I can come out ahead on groceries, but we only travel every few years after saving up, don’t have access to Uber, or food delivery (or actually any restaurants within 15 miles, and then only 4 if you include a Dunkin in a gas station and a Subway…), so almost all the perks of those guys are inaccessible to me (and I have the Propel, Savor, and Uber cards, so dining’s covered if we ever eat out…). AmEx’s top tiers are great cards if you live a life, or have a job that allows you to to maximize them, but for me and our lifestyle, the numbers don’t work out…

You can travel to SE Asia, China, a lot of European countries, throughout Africa and you will see how your fancy Platinum gets denied every time- embarrassing and dangerous if you do not have a backup card (Visa) or cash to pay. How common are upgrade offers? I just got a Gold card last year with a 75,000 point bonus, and now I am getting asked to upgrade for 100,000 points and a $150 statement credit for $6,000 in spend over 6 months. Seems like a crazy good offer. I was not planning to get a platinum anytime soon, but this seems too good to pass up.

    I love the blue cash preferred! You can't beat it, so easy to beat the 95$ annual fee. Only thing that sucks is it's only statement credit so it's not as satisfying as points or actual cash

    • @richard1113
      @richard1113 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... you can. I used to have the BCP, and it's a great card, but at $95/yr, it's more cost effective to use something like Citi Custom Cash. It only has 5% back but beats the pants off paying the AF for BCP which also has a limit.

      whta is statement credit? just credit to pay off your credit card bill?

    • @ow5966
      @ow5966 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey sometimes what you can do is request check. When you have zero balance go and request a statement credit then your account will have a negative balance don't use the card. Call them up and ask if they can send you a check. It works every time for me!!

    Travel rewards suck right now and most of the Amex offers other than travel are for central city dwellers. Those of us who live in rural and suburban areas and still use Amex are subsidizing the takers in the city. This is nothing new as rural and suburban America is now and has been subsidizing city dwellers for decades. The vast majority of federal tax money is spent on dependent city dwellers for housing credits WIC, aid to dependent children and other welfare programs. With that in mind, it would be excellent if some financial institutions would decide to reward those who actually pay the freight for the super dependent city dwellers.

      I agree. Sticking with my CSR and ink. Don’t need a ridiculous AF to feel like a big shot in the centurion. I make enough to buy my own breakfast.

    Sad to say I just got rid of my platinum card after being a member for 8 years. I just can not back my spending and Amex profits on a company that benefits from capitalism yet pushes anti-capitalism and crt rhetoric. Sad state of affairs I am afraid.

    Bro. I used to rewatch your videos religiously. In fact, it's bc of you that I got into the CC game.... So, for that I wanna say thank you. But I cannot stand to watch your videos. Please take this as positive criticism - the way you speak with your hands is soooooo irksome. It's like nails on a chalk board. You flare your hands sooooo much that I can't even watch your videos. I have to let it play in the background. Please fix this man.

    I loved American Express until they showed there racist ways. NO ONE should get this card and the company should burn until the racist management is removed.
