    The Walmart+ also lets you use Sam's Club gas stations without being a member of Sam's Club. This is a REALLY underrated perk. I don't belong to any club stores since I live alone, so being able to get discounted gas is a nice perk. I just went on a trip yesterday and the Sam's club gas was 10 cents a gallon less than the surrounding stations.

I wish it was way more simple and easy to use like a single flexible credit like the CSR or just a lower annual fee with no credits. You can book through FHR and still trigger the MGM offer. The booking itself won't count towards the spend requirement, but as long as you're putting the incidentals on the Platinum card when you check in and those add up to at least $500 during your stay (not hard to do with Vegas resort fees + meals) it will trigger the $100 credit.

    I can somewhat understand why people are getting frustrated with adding “perks” that seem to devalue the Platinum as far as how it was viewed status wise. HOWEVER, if they are serious about adding a card between Platinum and Centurion then it kind of makes sense for them to do this to possibly make the newer card more “prestigious” than the platinum.

    I think them increasing the statement credit value per point 1. Is a great thing because that builds longtime customers knowing that in case of emergency they can use points to cover expenses rather than solely travel.
    2. Because realistically people use MR points for travel most often so I can’t imagine Amex would even be taking a big hit by this.
    And
    3. Competitors like Chase already have a cash out value of 1cpp so maybe they’re just making this the standard now and are just testing it🤷🏼‍♂️

    The Walmart+ credit is off-brand for the Platinum, but let's be honest...most of us watching this channel aren't in the "target" demographic of averaging $750k in annual income, and therefore aren't highbrow enough to care. 😱 I only shop Walmart for specific items, and I wouldn't pay for Walmart+ otherwise, but I signed up for the service on day one...because...What If? (Marvel reference)

  • @paavanmehta

    I used the Walmart plus perk already. Walmart is on the other side of the city while target and Amazon charges > $10 for the same item. I placed the order at 5pm and got it delivered 10am the next day. So I’m ok with them adding perks as long as travel value doesn’t get devalued (any further)

  • @aroundthesun05
    @aroundthesun05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IMO, the biggest issue I have with the Platinum card is who is this card for exactly? It's a premium credit card with a jaw dropping $700 annual fee, but I honestly cannot tell you who the target is for the card. I thought it was a travel card, but the benefits or perks they add to the card have very little, if anything, to do with travel. For 700 dollars you've got to come better than Walmart+ and $300 credits on an exercise bike. I'm just completely turned off by the Platinum card and to me it feels like Amex has no idea what they actually want the Platinum card to be. The Gold card is very simple: do you like food? Then this card is for you! Why isn't the Platinum? Very confused by Amex right now.

    The workaround for free shipping whether walmart or whomever, if you want something for $5 shipped, buy a GiftCard and for most retailers including walmart you'll get the free shipping.

    That Walmart benefit looks like something that is free for Amex and allow Walmart to reach out to customers who never go to their store. I would hope someone who can afford the Amex fee doesn’t do grocery shopping at Walmart…

    • @MetroJet2000
      @MetroJet2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What’s wrong with shopping for groceries at Walmart? The only arguments against is missing out on BOGOs and other sales that supermarkets have, and that Walmart generally doesn’t code as a grocery store purchase for rewards purposes.

      @@MetroJet2000 from my experience it’s a lot of industrialized and processed food all guided by low costs vs. healthier, more natural, traceable food.

    Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the the new Chase World of Hyatt Business card. It's underwhelming.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much for the bonus or if you're at 4/24 and still want the Hyatt. Maybe some "actual" business use cases (since you can write-off the annual fee?).
      Feels pretty anti-climatic to me though.

    hey sebby how long do these targeting amex point cashback offers usually last? i have a decent chunk of debt that i owe at a 0% interest that may get difficult to pay off in full by the time the 0% ends. If I use my 130k amex points at a 30% bonus to cover my charges, (~$1100) do you think thats still a decent enough value if it will help me pull myself out of debt overhang? I still have a good score so i can qualify for a balance transfer card with 0% apr when the time comes. Is it worth losing the value of the points but derisking vs. gaining more value while risking potentially not being able to pay off the debt in time after a balance transfer?

    It seems with all the new advertisements I am seeing from Amex pushing their platinum card, it does not feel like an exclusive card anymore. Premium yes but not exclusive with not many card members. As a member the value of exclusivity is very important and to see it on commercials instead of their other cards I can’t help but feel like everyone has one

    AMEX Platinum sucks now. All of the good benefits are now gone. And for them to add Walmart + ... what?!?! This is supposed to be a targeted card at high-net-worth individuals. Typically high net worth folks aren't shopping at Walmart. So this is no benefit. And Walmart gas? What high net worth individual goes to Walmart for gas?

    The two main reason I got the Platinum card was for free roadside assistance and the companion airline ticket. They no longer offer either of those. They used to offer free auto insurance coverage on rental cars -- did they do away with that as well? My annual fee has gone UP from $500 a year to $700 a year, yet the benefits have gone DOWN. I'm thinking of getting rid of it.

    The more "benefits and credits" Amex adds to the Platinum card, the more annoying and non-sense it becomes. Cancelling for sure in 2022 unless they give 50K+ MR points as retention offer.
