    I would cancel the card if it goes to Resy. There are only 4-5 Resy restaurants in my area... and they're really expensive restaurants. It would make 0 sense to do that. I think that they should make it an anything dining credit, and maybe have an extra multiplier for Resy bookings (+1.5x or something like that). The entertainment category would be interesting... not a dealbreaker. The Resy is a dealbreaker though.

  • @DuffManSW
    @DuffManSW หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I would cancel the Gold if they did that. I’m not making Resy reservations every month to use a $10 credit that doesn’t cover the cost of most drinks. That would also probably make me cancel my Schwab Platinum because a lot of the value for me is sending the points to the brokerage and it doesn’t make sense if I don’t have the Gold to earn the 4x. I’m out of PDX so I have no PP lounges or Centurion.

    • @marat8584

      @@suprashank that's not true, the profit is in the merchant fees. Anyone who uses AMEX instead of their Visas and Mastercards for a reasonable number of purchases every year is a profit making customer. In this context the 120$ dining credit seems insignificant. And if someone cancels the gold card for that reason, it'll cost them hundreds of dollars in lost transaction fees and, of course, annual fees.

    Regular starting cards have a 0% annual fee and a 3% cash back on dining which renders the 4% on the gold an awkward consideration unless you spend major bucks. A small change in the benefits and annual fee structure completely destroys the GOLD for a lot of people, in particular min max people.

I’m a simple man - Amex since ‘04, Gold card since ‘19…not worried about the potential $100 annual bump if I’m able to find ways to justify it through program improvements. It would be nice if they reduce the coupon aspect of the Gold card, but add a 5X dining multiplier. For example, I would be ok with a $120 Uber credit, 5X dining credit, 4X groceries @ $325 AF. I would say that's pretty fair. Essentially a $200 effective annual fee but you get a 5X dining, which would have been similar to the Citi Prestige. That way the card would be a 5,4,3 card. 5X dining, 4X groceries, 3X airfare.

    I hope what you're saying doesn't come true, and that Amex starts to move away from credits and allow their patrons the flexibility to chose what, where, and when to spend "their" money. If not, I will for sure move to Issuers that are less intrusive and more freedom loving. Interesting vid however👍🏾

    I will downgrade to the green card if they raise the annual fee to $350. Won't be worth it for me and if Sebby is right about RESY, then it is a definite no go for me. Shame AMEX is doing this to their best card imo but I get they are a business out to make money and they probably will make a ton of it with a relaunch.

    If i was a executive as Amex. I would create a card with a really high yearly fee, say like $999. But load if with ATON of bonuses. Like 5% on Flights,Dining,Grocery. And have like 1000 worth of yearly credits, say like 15$ a month for certain entertainment, select grocery chains, select dining, a department clothing store purchase etc. Just load it up with ATON of 15-20 dollars offers. Something the average person thinks they can keep track of. But would fall behind in doing some months.
    I have the gold. And i get free chipotle once a month through the uber credits and get a Free appetizer to eat from Cheesecake once a month. Its super easy to manage. But if you threw in a 20$ baseball/football game credit every month among other things. If I somehow managed to make time once a month to go do this. I still probably would be gun shy to do that often after seeing how much it cost to do it repeatly.
    Long story short. Make a high annual fee card that has so many juicy offers, the typical person will think they can jungle it to get all the benefits. But will fall short.

    Amex imo isn’t worth it if you aren’t doing travel so as someone who only travels maybe 1 times a year I don’t see the benefits of Amex
    Fees for credits I would use but in use it or lose it makes me mad
    Vs chase and capital one you can have a solid cash back set up or travel with little to no annual fee
    Amex has 1 cash back card that can’t be used for travel so you have to split spend if you want to the option

    The Amex Gold is probably the best card for the average person. The current credits for the most part make sense to justify. Adding resy wouldn’t really work for the current market of people who love the gold card.

    The current dining credit isn't very valuable to me, not even worth $10 a month. Resy wouldn't be any better. I would gladly trade it for a $5 credit to any restaurant that I don't have to think about. I hope the changes actually will appeal to me because honestly I find the gold benefits to be weird, and paying $350 a year for more convoluted BS wouldn't be an upgrade.

I mean seriously, is there a stalwart company out there that is still growing and still gives a sh*t about any of its customers that value certain products? All I hear is incentivizing others in the industry to raise annual fees and tack on useless credits. It’s a shame, if this credit is garbage I’m dropping the card and hoping my CSP doesn’t follow suit.
