  • Improving pirouette exercises will help you find the balance, coordination and alignment. To improve turns you will also have to include strengthening exercise for ankles and core stability. Improving turns takes time and confidence, with these exercises I will try to make you understand the rhythm of turns, how not to cheat a preparation for the turn and why your connection with brain and body is important.
    Control of your preparation and turn is important to give the right accent and feel, depending on the music you are dancing on.
    We will prepare your body to do many spins, but firstly we need to understand the basics behind pirouettes. Let’s start!

    I did the first exercise about 30 times over the past few weeks and I can see a huge improvement in my turns. My balance really improves and my feet on the floor doesn't move anymore. Thank you so much for your video :)

    Holy crap this is SO challenging! I thought I knew at least the basics of pirouettes, and first tried this video after I got my butt kicked in an intermediate ballet class during pirouettes. I was flailing and am struggling to keep up with this video rn, but I trust that mastering this will definitely improve my pirouettes. Thanks so much for this, this is exactly what I need!

    Hi Alessia, love this video. It's very important to practise holding the passe and these exercises are great. Quick and sharp too, I sometimes think I practice my turns really slowly but you have to just GO FOR IT and with these exercises, I'm slowly building more strength and stability for turns that I ever had. Thanks so much! :)

    Just started ballet at home aa a contemporary/pop dancer. I'm a fast learner, but darn ballet is physically challenging. I'm currently very bas. But, I did an hour session of repeating these exercises and I did improve, though still not great at proper foot placement and turning on which side when which foot is forward.
    But I trust! Thank you x

    I love your videos! I have been taking ballet at the same studio for 10 years...what you show is what we need to know. I have had the same thing year after year and my turns are still horrible because nobody really explained them..just do this and turn. I will be using some of your ideas with teaching my teen ballet class! They need a change and some better technique. Thank you!!

    This made me think through the process of how I do a pirouette and found this helpful. My question...are you overturning because you're used to doubles and it's hard to slow down? Is going slower the key to landing right in front on a single? Thx! 🥰

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gwen, start back with basics, try your balances and positions and work on that for a while. Once you have found your balance again start turning, your brain will remember muscle memory and will know what to do! Above all don't get frustrated ! One step at the time !
      Try these :

      Hi Dasom I have Bloch, the downside is that they don't last long at all! I'm looking for something more durable, and as soon as i find something i will definitely shout it to the world !

    I dont know why but whenever im attempting to spot...the more i get dizzy...so whenever im trying to make simple turns...my heads held high but my eyes were looking on the floor...but i will practice spotting and doing releve's

    Hi, i find i don't really struggle in piroutte if i have to do just one turn but once i get to two turns or more
    i always fall out of it... help me

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Breathing while turning is important. Try to say your name out loud while turning "my name is Falola Folasayo". This always helped me out :)

    well, I seem to understand and not at the same time. I really have difficulties with the direction of the turns...if I try with the mirror it is a bit better...any idea how I can get it faster or better? it is not about perfection....I am quite far from that ...just want to do it right. ...

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go toward your lifted foot, I sometimes say to slap the inside of your thigh to help you with direction. The same hand of the leg up, slaps the thigh. Or imagine to open a door...So hard to explain in writing !!! ahahaha

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's all about self discipline, you are the one that need to tell your body not to overturn. Rhythm and self control is the key. :)

    3:30 u do the wrong turns, u need to take your leg on front, not on back.

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christal, thank you for this, but actually it is meant to be this way. I took inspiration from Bournonville Technique where all the en dehors turns are done with either a coupe side or at the back. This is a very beautiful tecniqhe. Bournonville was ballet master and choreographer at The Roayal Danish Ballet. The company and school use his techinque and choreography at present. "A speciality of the Royal Danish Ballet remains its highly prized story-telling ballets in continuation of the Bournonville tradition". Bournonville's ballets you may know are Napoli and La Sylphide.
      I've found this video that is perfect to see all the details. It's a bit long but for young dancers like you, that want to become professionals, it's good to watch and learn for your future career. th-cam.com/video/lGmh14Qn6EQ/w-d-xo.html

    well...stumbling around the office floor..poor neighbours. 3&4 did work a bit though...I'd not come to grips with 1 and 2 any hint? will continue to torture my neighbours later or/and tomorrow 😋

    • @lazydancertips
      @lazydancertips  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of practice Claudia, I think your neighbours will soon complain...mine haven't yet...but they might soon!! If you don't feel like turning yet, try just with releve, once you are confident enough add the turn! :) Kissy
