    Chariot is actually a pretty good dude to have around, he stands up for his teammates on a team notorious for lack luster aggression. He gets undeserved criticism.

    Idk man I think that article is quite dramatic. We have a better balanced team and also our young players who perform great last season will get even better. So I would say we will be a fringe playoffs team again or maybe finally making it. Still have years to go with making deep runs

    Definitely better. The speed upgrade from Perron to Teresenko should be all we need. Lets you run lines like these:
    Debrincat - Larkin - Kane
    Ras - Compher - Raymond
    Bergrenn - Veleno - Teresenko
    Motte - Copp - Fischer

    You had me until Chiarot was worth .8 million. That is hysterical. Sure 4.8 is an overpay, but he’s a legit 4th or 5th defenseman. Most teams would take him on at around 3mil.

  • @alancarr4272
    @alancarr4272 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Feels about right to me. Chiarot improved, but still not close the earning his pay. Copp is such a solid player, but doesn’t score nearly enough to command those dollars. Signing Holl was a mistake, but RHD are expensive. All that aside, as was noted: these are short term deals. In two years, consider how many prospects will be core players and how much cap space DET will have. Many teams in the east are getting older, so DET could be poised to open a lengthy window to contend starting as the contracts expire. They could take a step back next year in terms of points, but DET looks formidable for the long term.

    • @ML-kx9gz
      @ML-kx9gz หลายเดือนก่อน

      that's what people are missing here, the bigger picture has less to do with these short term deals which will (should) be replaced players coming up through the system. If you had these guys on long term deals it would be basically rebuild 2.0.

  • @jackconrad2667
    @jackconrad2667 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think improvement will need to come from the young players. At least some roster spots are open. I would say it’s a 50/50 to improve from last year. But some young players may get some nhl time which is quite needed

    • @daveyusmc4863
      @daveyusmc4863 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once again you are correct. I actually think we will be slightly better, but not sure if that will show in our final record. Just having Edvinsson all season will boost defense. Sankshow is an upgrade as well. Second line Center Compher and Petry is the biggest problem. If we would have replaced Petry with Trouba we would have been a lot better.

    • @jackconrad2667
      @jackconrad2667 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@daveyusmc4863 I think compher as a wing is fine. And petry on 3rd line is fine. I think the idea of petry on the second came from some sort of chemistry with him and edvisson is there supposily

    It is like you said, it doesn’t matter. Crappy teams are going to over pay here and there. By the time we’re more competitive those bad contracts will be over.

    Albert Johannsen is going to be in the rookie of the year conversation. That plus a young forward breaking out (Danielson?) will be enough to make the playoffs this year.
    And if none of that happens, it just goes to prove that we don't live in the best of all possible worlds.

  • @Joe-gi3nj
    @Joe-gi3nj 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    id say, if anything, we are neutral to where we were last year, but we're replacing some of the spots with rookies. It might be a plateau, but its a step in the right direction.

    Did the Wings improve? Probably not. Did they get worse? Absolutely not. It's amusing to me that so many people are flipping their nonsense because something dumb got posted to the Athletic, and a bunch of overly reactionary fans follow it up with hot takes. That doesn't mean Copp and Chiarot are actually valuable players (they're not, at least not yet), but it's just an opinion. Chiarot is starting to find his place, while Copp is showing he's little more than a 3C. But largely, the list Dom posted there is solely looking at numbers, which is only part of what a player brings.

    This is a snapshot in time. This changes every year and sometimes dramatically. Seems like an off-season conversation starter to occupy minds until the season. A more productive exercise would be to link it with playoff success and Stanley cup success.

    I’d expect Detroit to see some regression next year, that’s just a part of bringing in younger players. They will be a playoff team in 2-3 years, when cossa takes the reins and enters the league.

    Theres a very real possibility they dont improve and miss the playoffs again, which would be a make or break outcome for the Yzersham.

    no center depth. Larkin goes down, and teams WILL target him and Detroit is closer to a lottery team than a playoff team. The "youth movement" is only starting because Edvinsson is just too damn good and they would lose Berggren and Johansson if they don't at least let them try to be on the team. Yzerman did what he always does, sign mediocre free agents to help this team tread water. If Kasper or Danielson don't at least get close to where Larkin is, then this rebuild will be a failure.

    • @paulwt9783
      @paulwt9783 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that is the issue, yes, and it's an issue even while he's healthy bc it plays havoc w the lineups.
      that being said, i like the team if both Larkin and Kane play a full year next year.

    • @theskatebus1687
      @theskatebus1687 หลายเดือนก่อน
