    I am almost 100 percent positive this is the same one I seen in 82' . My dads friend Denny Hartman was building it in his shop in the Torrance, Ca. Not sure if it was his or a customers. They definitely did not start with a Nomad. Pretty sure it was a two door and they used some salvaged wagon and Nomad pieces to build it. Along with custom chrome trim as seen around the bed.
    I was young and blown away because I never seen a 56' El Camino. My dad laughed and schooled me real quick. Denny is in a rest home in Las Vegas. My dad has passed away, but I will call my uncle to confirm & Denny's son is still around I beleive. It sure looks like Denny's work. His body & paint work was always top shelf.

    It was a '56 Bel Air Nomad. The doors have no window frames (as a hardtop would), & the "paint divider" is even, & matches, what was once the "B" pillar. The Chevy stylists moved it this way, to match, as all other '56 Bel Airs, had the paint divider facing differently. The tailgate is definitely a Nomad gate, although the gold "Nomad" name is missing from above the chrome spears... It also originally had a six-cylinder, because the radiator is mounted in front of the core support, for clearance. The V-8 models, had the radiator mounted, on the rear of the core support.Cheers! :) (your resident), "Know-It-All"..."Um-gwadda-kick-booty!" :P

    I have a red body and white top. 1955 Chevy Nomad! I love it, my Daddy gave it to me! He is almost 91. Momma past away and he said it wasn’t the same driving without Momma. She said BJ if something happens to me, you give that Nomad to Faye. So he did.
    I’m forever great full!

    Definitely built out of a Nomad. The rear pillar gives it away. These were fairly common back in the 60's, but this is the best I've seen to date.

    I had a 57 Ford Ranchero when I was in high school. I would've traded for this in a heartbeat. There's no way I'd ever take a body saw to a Nomad but , maybe someone dropped a piano on it's roof. The roof on the El Camino version reminds me of a top off a late 50's Chevy pickup. Guy probably cut up a Camao to steal the roof. ;-)

    Cool and here is another 56 Bel.Camino.....but this one started life as a Nomad instead of a 4 door.

    GREAT video, your dad is a great guy, says it like it is, no bull, too bad if it was a nomad it was converted to a pickup as the nomad was definately worth lots more, the person who bought it could convert it back to a nomad. My son has a 56 nomad which is just beautiful. The rest of it looks very nice. Very interesting video, thanks

    Love it. So where will we start? After updating engine w/modern LS crate, a complete rewiring, a strip and repaint of the engine compartment, adding a/c, and different wheels and tires, I'd then turn my attention to the brakes, and suspension.

    Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility/pickup vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959-60 and 1964-87. Introduced in the 1959-1960 model years in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero pickup, its first run lasted only two years.

    You know you're talking about a messed up a classic when you start talking about it being worth more for it's parts than what you might hope to get for it as the car it has been converted to. I'd be embarrased to be driving that and have people think I did that to a Nomad.

      '59/'60?

    • @bobbysolo5411
      @bobbysolo5411 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@labrd41 YES it was 59, then 60, and paused until 65, up to 80, with what seemed to be random years, skipping some and hitting others. I had a 66 for some time, and it was fun to drive, even with the 6 cylinder.

    All that work and they forgot the mess of a wiring job under the hood and that scratched up dash kind of wrecked it for me. Christ they even forgot to attach the chrome trim on the tailgate. Makes me wonder what else someone forgot to do on this thing. That ignition procedure reminds me of that new mad max movie Fury road.
