My all time favorite. Fell in love with the 56 Nomad when I put my first Revell model together.

This Nomad is beautiful overall. I have a 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10 that my Grandfather drove. Its 235 Cubic Inch motor is not going anywhere. I will rebuild it to perform and change the remaining components of the drivetrain to perform as well. Jay, as with most of your episodes, Thank You for showcasing this man’s ride!

Cool car !!! I've got a 57 hardtop myself. Got it back in 64, drove it and redid it starting, 11 years ago. Took me 10 years, could only afford so much a month, but, it came out nice and fantastic and BLACK !!

The happiest years for our family was when my father owned a 1955 Chevy Nomad station Wagon. Bliss for us as little kids was to step on the bumper, jump in the tailgate for a ride with the crank down window!

They shipped this car down to El Cajon, Ca. to Gear Vendors (to have us install the O.D.).
I couldn't believe how beautiful it was inside & out, but underneath too. All premium bolts including on the exhaust hangers. I was told "Overhaulin" & Jay Leno had worked on it.
Surprise, here it is, I still dream about this beauty.

The tri-five cars are by far my most favorite classics, and I just love wagons. So a tri-five nomad really gets me all giddy. This is one really sweet ride. Good job to the Overhaulin crew and you guys for preserving it as it sits. Just beautiful!

The wheels sure don't have much clearance. I like the car but I think I'd want some more traditional wheels and tires on it if it was mine. I've studied the '55, '56 and '57 Nomads and they are all awesome and unique in their own style, but my personal favorite is the '55.

We had a metallic grey one of these that my father bought used in 1961. My parents would put a mattress in the back and the three of us kids would sleep there on the way up north to the family cottage on a Friday night. Memories.

This color scheme is exactly what I had on my56 Nomad in ‘89 when I had it built I. Shreveport. I drove it to work and fun until 2015 after my wife passed. Garnet Red and GM Beige. Looked like a strawberry going down the road
I had Wheel Vintiques rims with BF Goodrich tires. It would go anywhere. I regularly drove it to Houston and Dallas
Jays’ comment that all the ‘50s cars were the same doesn’t do. He wants a big block and I had an old 327 that we cleaned up at the local car wash before putting new bearings, rings and even pistons in. We got an Edelbrock manifold, a Carter Black Knight carb and I drove it for 40+ years. Happy is subjective. I miss the car and the rides my wife and I had in it but it was fun going to work or to the kids soccer games. When I sold it the carpets were dirty, some of the stainless was scratched up and the paint had chips and nicks. There was no rust and it took its new owner to Arizona from Shreveport with hardly any trouble. There is Nothing like the Nomad until you start talking about the Grand National.

We had a 56 green and white Chevy Nomad when I was a kid, I was born in late 1949, my dad ended up hating this car, being the aeronautical engineer he was, he said the car was extremely dangerous because the brakes would heat up and cause them to fail pretty easily! He actually ended up selling the car for this very reason! In his later years I would joke with him that the car he hated so much was worth more money than some homes! Got a few weird looks on that one! I always loved Nomads - 55, 56 or 57, I'd take either one! The 1958 Nomad just doesn't do for me, they kind of look like a hearse to me and I love 58 Impalas! Just doesn't have the lines.

Sweet Nomad. Needs the hood ornament, and the rest of the hood V emblem, but those are two great two tone colors.

I sounded like both the doors squeaked. My body shop turned me onto Slick 50 lube. I had known about the old Slick 50 engine additive, but had never seen their lube before. My Ram 3500 had a door squeak and I complained to the dealer that an oil change was supposed to be a lube job and they should LUBE the doors too. Their lube wouldn't stop the noise. I tried grease and various lubes too no avail. Finally, I tried Slick 50 on a little vertical axle (?) on the door restraint mechanism. It worked great and lasts for weeks to months before needed another shot. I went back to the dealer and showed them how to lube the doors.

The Tri-Five Chevys are some of the best looking cars ever designed, no doubt.

I'm enjoying Jay's Garage very much, and appreciate that Jay has taken time to make these videos for us car guys! I especially like when he's talking about 50's-70's American cars. But, I must correct Jay about what he said about the 56-57 Chevy sales versus Ford. At about 9:30, he said the 55-57 Chevys "were not that big a sellers", and that the 56-57 Fords outsold Chevy by a 3 or 4 to 1 margin. But, he was very mistaken. Chevy outsold Ford in 1956, as they had done for 20 years. Ford did finally outsell Chevy in 1957. But it wasn't by a 3 or 4 to 1 margin. It was by about 6%. And that was because the Ford was an entirely new car for 57, while the 57 Chevy, even though having an extensive facelift, was still a warmed-over 55-56. Also Plymouth started coming on strong with their new "Forward Look", spreading the sales around more than usual. So, the 57 Chevy still made it a close race for #1 in sales, considering it was a 3rd year design from the original 55, against some tough brand new competition. So, there were still plenty of 57 Chevys built( over 1.5 million), and a lot of those still survive today. Not that I dislike 57 Fords, but not nearly as many of them have survived. I hope Jay will be able to do more episodes with American cars from the 50's-60's and even the 70's (think TA's!) Thanks! Steve

Awesome update on the Nomad from Overhauling... Really curious on just what really needed "finishing" after they presented it back to him.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the show and what they did, and obviously Chip's talents are second to none... But I'm a realistic person... Lol

8:14 you can't stop gas from going bad if you don't keep it air tight. Gas will evaporate no matter what you put in it.
