I"ve lost my mom aswell, so i can relate... Aeris trial was definitely one of the most painful and emotional scenes that i have ever witnessed in gaming. Ignore hateful people when you are being truthful towards yourself, they are just plain ignorant and are scared of their own feelings.

When I was a child, I loved a good story. I believe that stories help us ennoble our souls, fix what is wrong in us, and help us become the person we dream of being. I think that's what drew me to the world of games, a passion that I take great pleasure in nurturing and cultivating to this day. Stories like that of Final Fantasy VII bring a deep narrative that covers a wide range of topics: friendship, loss, grief, hatred, love. However, I believe the greatest lesson, or one of the lessons it teaches us, is about the bonds we form with the people around us and the strength of these bonds, showing how this can make all the difference in our lives. Being touched by the gift of friendship is something we should all aspire to in our lives. After all, how can we face the adversities of destiny alone, without the help of loyal and dedicated friends, without a life companion ready to share the highs and lows?
Thank you for sharing a bit of your personal experience with us, Mandy. I know it wasn’t easy, but I sympathize with your story (and yes, I also got emotional in that part of the game-how could I not? Especially in the scene of Cloud's ordeal when "The Promised Land" started playing).

I am one of those "old" OG players that experienced FF7 and Aerith's fate back in the days as a kid ; her trial in Rebirth, the passing of Ifalna and what happened next were devastating moments. And I sure didn't hold the tears. To be quite honest I was terrified at the prospect of re-experiencing the fate of Aerith, since the original moment when I was 10yo deeply hurt me. I won't go too personal on the matter, but it is important to me. *She* is important to me.
I do not mind seeing other people cry because of such moments because it's so relatable. For many, many years I had nobody to talk about it because "it's just a video game!" you know ? I kept all of it to myself. But now, thanks to the Internet, discussions and videos like yours, it's finally possible to exchange with people that felt or feel the same way.
Thank you, for reacting so emotionally, with honesty, to those moments. Without hiding it.

God the trials all broke my heart, but Aerith's was the one that made me sob like a baby. The thing that especially got me playing through it again is seeing those scientists gather around Ifalna's body while Aerith watches. Because we know what they did to her since Hojo taunted Aerith with this in Remake. "What a terrible tragedy, to lose the last of the pure blooded Ancient's. Though not entirely. Would you like to see your mother? Albeit through the lens of one of my microscopes. Did you really think we'd leave such a precious specimen to rot in the gutter? We've collected every last bit of her. Hair, skin, organs, every fragment of every bone." When we beat up Hojo in part 3 it will be the most cathartic fight ever. We'll all be screaming "This is for Aerith! FOR AERITH!!!!"

I could tell you a very long story about how and why FF7 is also very close to me, and why I identify and connect with the story and certain characters too, but really all I think I want to say is aren't we so lucky to have such incredible stories like these that can connect and hit on so many themes of what it means to be alive? They say art imitates life and I think Square has done such a phenomenal job in communicating the human experience. Such odd times we live in. When social groups splinter and cultures seemingly fragment farther apart, these types of stories and experiences are what bring us together because they attempt to reconcile truths of the living experience that can be painful to bare on one's own.

  • @bronxx117

Who are these people who give you grief over showing and sharing emotions, and who hurt them that they would try and come after anyone, much less someone as great as you, for being human? This game is designed to hit hard, to give us an emotional connection and an impact when things happen. I haven't experienced the kind of loss that many have, but Barret's trial hit me the hardest because I can just imagine the pain if I were to lose my wife, and as a father, a lot of his story beats already hit close to home.
Keep being you, Mandy, and leave the nay-sayers to their own damage.

Barret and Aerith's scenes are extra good. Can't help tear up with Aerith's scene and I've watched multiple gameplays of it. The slow walk as she cries and the last "Mom" just hits. And the sudden change to black as adult Aerith gets close is so cruel. Barret being given the feel of his arm and wife back just to be taken away again is cruel. Makes me think, are the Cetra cruel to administer these trials or is it something necessary for the black materia to materialize.

I love that you talk about how emotional you get, I won’t lie I use to think your just doing it for views but I kept on watching you and I started to feel your pain and seeing your very genuine when you get sad and emotional it’s real you can’t fake that so happy you confronted people that said you was fake, it don’t matter that it’s a game, the creators put so much work into games to the voice, acting to the music. The scenery, games now are like art they want you to feel for the characters. To connect with the characters. And especially if you’ve been through a lot in your life, it can trigger that memory and take you back. It’s not a bad thing. It’s good to remember and cry. It makes you stronger because somehow someway you got through it. And now it’s just a memory. You’re amazing and thank you for sharing this with us ! God bless !

You are a wonderful person, never forget it no matter what people say. Greetings from Spain ^^

What is wrong about being emotional especially in big momemts such as these? Shame on those comments. It was an incredibly poweful scene and the emotion its elicited from me when I played, to you, and countless others show just how well they pulled it off. Fair play Mandy for getting through it, it was a very tough scene. It's a game about dealing with loss and it's liable to resonate with anyone who's dealt with it. 😢

I know it's after the fact, that the final (for now episode) is up. I fear the end, so I delayed watching till now.
Trials: to have a future, sometimes we have to relive and remember the anguish and pain of the past. It is what makes us who we are. We do not have to let it control us. Learn. Learn so we don't repeat. This section had a line resonating with me from a song written by author Mercedes Lackey:
"Your own heart you must conquer, if the firebird you would call.
You must know the dark within you, ere you seek the cold drake's hall."
To move forward, each character *must* accept that, must do that. Master their heart, their emotions, accept the darknesses they hold within.
It is no shame to cry in this game, or any other, Mandy. I've said that before. FF16 tore me apart in places. I'm sure this will too. Let the tears flow. They show how much the story and these characters mean to you. Please never be afraid to show emotion. If people don't like seeing it, that's them. This is your game, your playthrough. Your emotions are important, let them show.

For better or for worse, FF7 is a game about deep trauma. Almost all the main characters have lost 1 or both parents or in yuffie's case someone who was practically an older brother. Its a theme common in a lot of Final Fantasy games but Kitase has always said that part of this story was him trying to process loss (I believe it was his mother?). People get emotional about these games (or books, tv, music, movie etc) because the arts are how we process our emotions. Us reacting to these is just empathy because most of us have experienced things that make these hit home for us. And make no mistake, that was intentional.
I could feel your fury when you were talking about people calling you fake. I hope they feel terrible knowing now why it affects you so much. But it sucks you had to feel it was necessary to reveal something so personal. But I'm glad you were able to connect to this game so deeply as a result. I think what impresses me most about the trials is that it was all new. None of that was in the OG. I'm not gonna say this game was perfect, but this game is extremely special. The level of care and detail the entire dev team and the VA's put in to making this game what is, to me is unmatched.

2:21:35 if this is the key that grants access to the true counterpart hidden between worlds, then that would mean the cetra knew of the multiple realities coexisting and had access to the void. Fyi its not a different cloud. Its their consciousness traveling since remake. They woke up in these bodies after falling. A fragment of Aerith's consciousness dragged him there. She is aware of different versions of herself. Thats how she knew things in remake. Its a sequel of OG after all. Aerith and sephiroth both playing new game +, while everyone else is playing new game. The Great chess game in the lifestream since OG. Whispers took her memories though.

@@thatstheway2429 You are right and it's not a sequel, Advent Children is the sequel to this and the devs said the trilogy will connect us there. Did you realize how much of FF 13 fingerprints was all over this game and honestly remake too
All the characters from 13 were based off of characters from FF7
Fang and Vanille were obvious representation of the Cetra
Sahz and his son were obvious representations of Barrett and Marlene not to mention the baby chocobo chick-
    Lightning was cloud
    Snow was Zack❤
and Sarah was of course Aerith
13 was a blueprint for the remake, the team had to start somewhere and since that’s the game, they were formed to re-create this game eventually, based on a rumor, I heard a few years back… But everything makes sense. I mean, the Gold Saucer reminded me so much of Nautilus from 13 immediately
and I swear Cait Sith’s moogle actually appeared in this FF 13(?)
But I know there were monsters actually called Cait Sith

The "get a room line" by Reno is actually a localisation problem because he says in Japanese that Rude is so cool. I don't know why they chose that line so far off from the original. I really don't get why people want the turks to stay alive after all the blood that they have spilled.

as she said, it is a reference to rude's crush. I think that reno is suggesting that rude is trying to "act cool" in front of tifa. So, the translation is not too far off.
but I'm with you on this. It always bothered me that in OG, the turks became comedy relief.
I was glad that Remake/Rebirth took a more serious direction, but It seems that they want to settle all differences with that fist punch between barret and rude.
I understand how aerith and tifa would be against revenge, but it is hard to imagine barret letting things go with just a punch...
