I'm about to do this to a scrambler 90 that's locked up. I appreciate the video. I just scored, within the past 2 weeks, a scrambler 50 and a 90. Each a $100 from 2 different buyers. I had a scrambler 500 when I was younger so it's just a bit sentimental to me too.
Correct me if I’m wrong here… but isn’t the green tube a vacuum line and the black hose with the coil wrapped around it bring the oil to the crankcase? The green tube shouldn’t ever see oil technically.
The black line with the coil wrapped around it is oil going from the oil tank to the oil pump, the green line is oil going from the pump to the carb. I don’t remember if I mentioned it in the video but that green line is one I installed that is higher quality than the original. It’s all still working great, I actually rode it yesterday.
Kyle, i had carb issues and it turned out It needed the stock air box to run. got that fixed and no Zero or no spark. already swapped CDI and tried bypassing the black wire kill switch. new plugs. no spark. is it the stator? I havent seen a video showing how to access the stator? removing plastics seems so many screws. Rrfgggh
I’d definitely test the stator first. If the stator passes the test, check out the kill switch, I had an intermittent no spark issue with my Polaris due to the kill switch internal connections needed to be cleaned. I haven’t had issues with my stator on my Polaris but I have dealt with many bad stators in the past. This video is on an entirely different bike but it at least gives the idea on how and why to test it. th-cam.com/video/q9-mr7BXIho/w-d-xo.html if you determine that’s the issue, It’s worth finding a repair manual or info in online forums to determine what resistances and voltages you should be looking for when testing. As for removing it, it should just be as simple as removing the cooling shroud, the fan, and the flywheel to access it. A flywheel puller would be required.
@@kylesjunkandprojects216 had it going last night. switched carbs and now no spark! how do you isolate or bypass the kill system I see black wire for cdi but it’s a harness with another wire. hate to start snipping
head gaskets, never, never need sealer thats why there copper or aluminum and have that ridge on one side and that goes towards your head, thats why you never reuse a head gasket as well.
10/10 great advice. I only started doing that after I had head gasket issues with Tomos moped head gaskets leaking. They didn’t have the raised edge like most which would explain the leaking.
For the first hour of riding or so, I was fairly easy on it and varied the throttle position to allow the rings to set properly, but after that, it was game on.
Make sure you have the stock air box and filter installed, make sure you oiled the filter, if you’ve done all that, Clean the carb, the main jet is probably clogged. If you clean the carburetor jets and it’s still doing it, check for air leaks.
Give it some time to break in for the first hour of run time, Vary the throttle, no WOT, 32:1 ratio. Compression testers aren’t always 100% with small engines.
@kylesjunkandprojects216 I have the fuel mixed at 50:1 it's what I had premixed ,, I appreciate your reply! Any advice helps,, anyway I kept trying to turn it over and it wouldn't Crank I sprayed starting fluid in the carb and it Crunk for just a few seconds and I couldn't get it to do anything after that, I hope I didn't damage the cylinder trying to Crank it with te electric start, the kick start is messed up on it
I'm hoping the cylinder wasn't dry from trying to Crank it if that's possible, I have no idea it's my first time rebuilding one, it's very Discouraging
I wouldn’t worry about that. The cylinder should be totally fine after using starting fluid. My first rebuild was also scary, I feel ya. Also the 32:1 is just for the break in period.

Can you use that rebuild kit on a 2000 sportsman 90?
Yep, it’ll work on all first Gen, two stroke models.
@@kylesjunkandprojects216 thanks for the info 👍
Still run strong?
Since the rebuild I’ve ridden it for about 20 hours, all wide open throttle, in mud, in snow, and it’s still mint and has great compression
For the first hour of riding or so, I was fairly easy on it and varied the throttle position to allow the rings to set properly, but after that, it was game on.
Mine is bogging down n want go I changed spark plug it’s still doing the same thing what do I need to do

What are the odds im watching this incase mine needs a rebuild and I live like 30 minutes from Louisville lol.
So aggrevating, I just changed mine and it reading 60 psi, I don't get it
