Albany (/ˈɔːlbəni/ (About this soundlisten) AWL-bə-nee) is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat of Albany County. Albany is located on the west bank of the Hudson River approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of its confluence with the Mohawk River and approximately 135 miles (220 km) north of New York City.[7]
Albany is known for its rich history, commerce, culture, architecture, and institutions of higher education. Albany constitutes the economic and cultural core of the Capital District of New York State, which comprises the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the nearby cities and suburbs of Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs. With a 2013 Census-estimated population of 1.1 million[8] the Capital District is the third-most populous metropolitan region in the state. As of the 2010 census, the population of Albany was 97,856.

I just got back from there and had a good time
If you've watched movies that have scenes that take place in New York City, chances are good it was shot in Albany, New York. There's a lot of similar buildings and streets and it's much cheaper to close off a section of Downtown Albany than it is to close off a street in NYC.
I believe they filmed a show set in NYC in Troy recently

I love exploring historic cities/towns. I could see how it would be boring if you're not into that, but I love learning so it would be a fun trip for me.

I remember Albany being a down and out city. I went there for a festival near Washington Park. I thought the architecture was beautiful (even the modern egg), but it seemed like it had better days.

At 11:20 the SUNY Hdqtrs bldg the highway bridges right behind it were used to film a chase scene in the movie 'SALT', also part of the downtown area near the Palace Theater. Very cool to know that Hollywood loves this area.

Wow! I live here, this place is a DUMP, A GHETTO. You have to be to see what it's really like, seventeen gang shootings this year, 140 last year, 41 death. You're seeing a drive through, that's all.
A city from 45 thousand to a city 97 thousand seems like such a huge difference..The amount of buildings is huge! Albany is teaming with life! Great!
Albany is a great city but I have some advice don’t get caught up in the south and north end there not that great and have a lot of crime downtown Albany is great they have lots of resterants but remember it’s a city there’s good parts and bad parts Albany is great but a lot of streaks have crime just be careful we’re you go and you can have a lot of fun there.

State Street is great for taking photos
Sorcerer Vaati64 yes. State street near NY state capitol and Empire State plaza are very nice location to take photos.
And scoring heroin or getting robbed but the best part about State Street it gets you out of Albany

New York seems to be behind most states. In Wisconsin every city or town is required to have a comprehensive plan. Where I live we have had over 5 since 1960 and now they must be updated every 10 years.

Why does New York have such an archaic traffic light system hanging on wires. Some intersections are updated to pole signs however.
Because our representatives give all of our tax dollars to nyc... after they line their pockets with half of it

3 miles in either direction and ur in the country. Beautiful lakes and mountains
Lived here for 20 years and its by far the worst place ive ever lived. People are not friendly and you never feel comfortable here. Its very awkward, never seen anything like it. Have 8 years left before i can retire and after i move out i would never step foot back here again. Avoid this city at all costs, trust me on this one.

Damn albany seems so dead and depressing
It is dead and depressing, but it can still be a nice place. I usually go there, to go to the crossgates mall
It is, I moved here 3 years ago and I can't make friends. I tried making a few friends at work and every one of them turned out to have some hard drug addiction and started asking me to take them on drug runs. One of them was my manager at the time. The roads are just a complete mess of lazy work and cut corners accumulated over time. Driving makes me straight up angry because my car is always being rattled, which also means you gotta dump more money in your car to get your shit straightened out every 3 or 4 months.
Trill Will, facts. Albany feels like it’s abandoned even though it has like 100k people. One of the most depressing places.

Apart from some "pretty" neo-classical architecture, Albany has nothing else going for it. It's basically just a pit stop on the way to Canada.
