The pre-orders for this game were off the charts. It was making tens of millions in revenue before it even launched and quite frankly, I suspect the only reason the game was delayed was to milk more pre-orders because they knew it would flop after launch. That's the problem - PREORDERS. You can hate all you want but if you really want to get revenge on companies AND improve gaming, delay your purchase a day or two and buy a reviewed game. No pre-orders means that companies will have make good games BEFORE they get paid, which is the way it should be.
Also, and I know this is a pretty revolutionary concept these days, but how about bringing back the ability to rent games so we can play them and see if we like them _before_ we buy them? Ever notice how the pre-order debacles didn't really get started until after places like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video went out of business? You couldn't rent games anymore (unless you've got a GameFly account and, by all reports, how good a service it is depends entirely on how close you live to one of their _four_ warehouses), so you had to buy them outright, leading to a lot of people pre-ordering them and then a lot of buyer's remorse when it turned out to not be what they were expecting or to just be flat out broken (I'm looking at you AC:Unity). Thankfully, you can still rent games from Redbox, even if it's only for the most recent AAA titles; it's not quite as good as the glory days of Blockbuster carrying years worth of games for each system, but at least it's something.
Mark Paz You obviously missed where I mentioned GameFly and then pointed out that the service is really only good if you live near one of their distribution centers, of which there are only 6 nationwide; otherwise, their turn around times can be pretty horrible (I've heard of up to 2 week delays from multiple sources). Furthermore, because of supply & demand problems, it's apparently almost impossible to get anything newer than six months old, by which point you've probably forgotten all about it. GameFly also operates on a monthly subscription of 16$ a month to have one game at a time. The caveats to this are no limits to how many games you can rent per month (theoretically, anyway) and you can cancel your subscription at any time then restart it whenever. That said, let's talk about that whole "as many games as you want". GameFly themselves say you'll have your game in 1-3 days, likely with 3 days being the norm unless you live a city over from one of their distribution centers. Say you take a single day to play the game, just to get a feel for it and see if you think it's worth buying. Basic math will tell you that all adds up to 7 days for a single game, making for 4 games max you can get per month (which averages out to about 4$ a game). Sure, you can upgrade to their 2 games for 23$ a month plan, but then you technically have even less time to play each game, so why bother? Redbox is 3$ a day, which can get expensive quite quickly (I once ended up paying 24$ for a single game that I just got completely lost in), but you get the game same day, if you only keep it for 24 hours, it's 3$, so unless you're a very heavy gamer, renting a half dozen or so games a month or you lose track of time on a single game, it can be a fair bit cheaper. Even if you _are_ a heavy gamer, if you only keep each game a day, you could rent 5 games before you break even with GameFly; however, since there are no shipping times and everything's same day, you could easily rent and play far more. All that said, however, my town had a little locally run rental place that recently closed down when the owners retired (depressing, but since I mainly used them for games and they hadn't updated their selection since about November '14, it wasn't a major blow). I could rent a game for 5 days for 7$... Or thereabouts; it's been a long time since I rented anything from them, so my memory's a bit fuzzy, but I remember it being in the single digits. I also remember Blockbuster charging roughly similar prices for games back in the day (though I think it was like 7$ for 3 days). Again, there were no shipping times, no potential delays, no possible getting lost in transit that could cost _you_ money, like there are with GameFly, but unlike Redbox, it wasn't a per-day fee, meaning it was cheaper than both. I have always rented games, even back when we were complaining about them now costing 50$ instead of 40$, nevermind them being 60$ brand new nowadays, because it means I wasn't dropping a load of money on what was potentially a really shitty game. However, now that you basically have no choice _but_ to buy them outright if the game isn't one of the lucky few to hit Redbox, I've bought a couple games I was less than satisfied with; thankfully, they were never at full price, I've never felt the bite quite as deep, but I can only imagine how much it must hurt to drop 60$ on a game that, frankly, sucks donkey dick. TL;DR - GameFly's okay, but it really can't hold a candle to local brick-and-mortar rental stores, which we desperately need back, because then we'd be able to try before we buy then game companies wouldn't get away with pushing shit on us and not caring since they've already got our money.
The hype killed, and the game looked good, but it lacked everything I wanted. Ship flight sucks. Ship combat sucks. I can't build a base. The creatures start looking the same. I can't stand the flight or landing. The map sucks. I thought this would rival Star Citizen, but it is nowhere near.

sorry a little history lesson. you know why final fantasy was called final fantasy? because a failing game company put all their sweat and tears into one final game. before that they made a few irrelevant games just like Hello Games, so to be fair No Man's Lies might've pulled it off given the time. also theres a game called "LOST SOUL ASIDE" that has amazing graphics, smooth as butter combat (from how it looks in the trailer), and it was completely done by one Korean guy. I highly agree. $60 for a supposed brand new concept of a game is too much, even certain franchise games are not worth that much but the fans buy them at their still high prices because they know they're getting a quality game. People paid $60 for a promise that was not fulfilled. In the end, money is really the major factor for why this games is getting a lot of hatred. Had this game been worth, say, $5, people would be annoyed at best but then forget about the issues after a little while.

if you were a small company trying to make a game as big of an idea as no man sky was going to be also how many problems they faced with flooding that cost them time as they lost data and with all the lawsuit which would of taken time away from making the game you would not be able to make the game to what you want it to be. so to everyone what they did make i say was great game is there faults yes what game doesn't have faults theses days because of stupid deadlines from companys like Sony, EA, Microsoft ect. if they had more time they could make something greater which they will, they are working on them give them time they need it for once.

If any of you guys were dissapointed by No mans sky and want a survival space game I would seriously recommend playing Starbound. The controls are a bit weird at first but it's so amazingly good and gives you the feeling of an actual endless world that's filled with lore and wonder. It's basically everything NMS wasn't.
I have 75 hours into this game. I enjoy this game. However, I will never purchase another product from this company again. No Man's Sky devs have lied time and time again about what they have produced. I strongly advise anyone reading this to join me in this.

Factors that probably contributed to the price: their studio got flooded, Sony stepping in to do marketing, the guy who thought right trigger is for sprinting on PS.
I think it was more of an idea Sony had for business and how they were marketing it which influenced the 60$ price tag. Honestly I love the game, but it is an indie game at heart and I would have like to pay a max of 30$.
At most I would pay $20 for this and even then I would think twice about it. It's an indie game with rather poor graphics. Nothing spectacular to see here and certainly not worth AAA game prices.
What people were told they were about to get. Epic spacebattles, invading enemy territory, epic sentinels fights, advanced trading systems with different species, joining factions, an fun and addictive crafting and resource system, animals that can interact with the environment, a stunningly beautiful universe, to almost never be able to see the same ship twice, to be able to name your ship like a discovery, multiplayer rings around some planets, be able to float in space, be able to scare away some aggresive animals (more advanced ai behavior), be able to land on astroids, finding space whales, be able to mount the space whales etc. What the people got. Collecting resources... That's it
Most of the things you said were never promised LOL. Spacewhales were a joke. I never heard anything about an advanced trading system. The crafting and resource system is exactly what has been promised. Joining factions has never been promised. Animals that can interact with the enviroment also were never promised. We did receive a stunningly beautiful universe. To be able to never see the same ship twice has never been promised. Multiplayer rings has never been promised. Naming your ship has never been promised. Epic spacebattles, we did receive, it is just that, just as with everything epic in open world sandbox games, may or may not happen in every situation. Scaring off animals is something we can do.

I think the biggest issue No Man's Sky has had is due to the size of the studio that produced it and the fact Sean Murray was a bit too honest sometimes. Because it's such a small company they won't have a PR department and the chances are Sean Murray has very little training in handling the media. So he will say things like "Oh yeah you can land on asteroids" and "the only way you will see what you look like is when someone else sees you" because at that stage of development either it was in the build they were using or it was planned to be put in. Things been cut in and out of video games happens all the time but you don't hear about most of it until long after the game comes out (if at all) because the PR team in the company control that information heavily. I have a friend who works for Blizzard whenever anyone says anything to the press they are told what they can and can't say. There is plenty of stuff that has almost made it into live Blizzard games that was cut just before it was about to be announced for various reason.

Wouldn't you be? It is a small studio, so we expected better of them in terms of honesty and transparency. We got something almost as bad as EA or Ubisoft. I did all the research I could in the 2 month delay, finding anything I could in terms of interviews with Sean and demo gameplay. What I saw made me so excited for this game! Not that super-hype that some DID have, but definitely excited. Then the game comes out. I play the best 5 hours of any game I've played in years. Then I began to see what the game truly was. It was, and is, nothing of what we were promised for years. Nothing of what we were promised in even June. That realization absolutely destroyed my desire to play this game. At least until it's close to what we were promised, if that even happens. Now tell me; would you not be disappointed too?

Did you watch the video? It isn't completely because of hype. There were MANY things that were promised (even in June) that weren't implemented into the game. Although there are a lot that was and is in the game, almost everything that isn't in the game is what sold me on it to begin with. Same with many others.

If the game had multiplayer, AS FUCKING PROMISED, I would have no problem with other content that was cut from the final product, but the thing is, multiplayer is a really big aspect of any game, and to market a game as multiplayer, only to find out at the last moment that it is actually JUST single player (not a small chance of meeting players, but NO chance). @@severzz1108 No. It's not bad. It does have a few problems though but its not enough to make me cry about it. Sometimes things don't load correctly like clothing and your space suit. Landing the ships on planets is really weird sometimes. Spawning a freighter is really annoying sometimes because it can only spawn in certain parts of space. I still love that game. The story is pretty good too. The graphics are beautiful. You can also drive mechs and stuff once you're on a planet.
Price is not stratified due to perceived quality, new games tend to cost the same amount as each other (at least on console), just as a movie ticket for a Blockbuster and a B movie are the same.

It already is Torrented and quite a lot of people are playing that Version, and the AMD CPU bug fix is already there as an update with the latest patch is out. Wish i'd of played it like that 1st to see the game before buying but yano, it seemed like it was gunna be a better game then what it was. i'd be happy with what i got if i payed £20 and not £40 as it is (or $30 and not $60 if your American)
Problem with NMS was that it was a indie game that promised AAA content. In the end, the "AAA content" was delivered in indie game fashion. Many promises that dingus Sean Murray promised was not included. Now, I believe the game itself can become a very great game to mod. ie include actually unique ships, fleet battles, or even an odd story line or two.
Which is the other funny thing. A game like ARK never promised AAA features and is very open about being an indie game but still is extremely good (on par with AAA games) and kept the $17-25 price tag (depending when you buy it). It's never pretended to be something it wasn't.
I would never EVER mod a game selling for a top price, just so that in the end it resembles to a 3A game, so that we get only a slight fraction of what was promised during the pre-order campaign justifying a top price! Or they'd have to pay me.

When I was around 12, I learned from my dad that expecting a movie to be great is a good way to be disappointed. I pre ordered No Man's Sky hoping it might be good(as procedural generation in certain games can be lacking) and I am glad to be still enjoying it today. Be smart people :)
I don't think it would have failed if... 1. Be actually honest about what it is in the entire game. I guarantee you if they straight out said that it was a survival universe mining game people will respect the direction. But sadly Sean wanted us to believe it was the ultimate space game. 2. The price tag match the content the game offers because anyone who put enough hours into this game KNOWS it doesn't deserve a $60 price tag.
No, its a shitty survival game. The inventory management is awful the combat is boring and takes no skill. It fails as a indie survival game for 20 dollars. There are truly free to play games that are a thousand times better than this piece of trash. The core of the game even if you discount all the false promises and technical glitches is just bad.

Also, quantity rarely compares to quality...The things in the game LOOK different, but serve the same function and behave identically, so it's really a moot feature once you actually start playing.
Same, i expected it as a piece of junk game since the E3. I mean the way they presentate it, just walking around shoot this shoot that, no interaction, no characters, no life, the animals/creatures/monsters/whatever you want to call feels very robotic and dead and the world is just flat and dead (they way i see it). First game i ever pre-orderd. I thought the free gun and ship would be worth it. it wasnt. It came with 10,000 units to. Chump change basically. I spent it instantly on only 20 zinc and that even wasnt enough zinc. I learned my lesson
The game is 80% mining... In all the footage shown of the game prior to release there was no real footage of mining. That is the biggest con the developers pulled off.

While I still enjoy the product, I understand and agree with the disappointment longtime followers of the project point out. However I don't feel sorry for people ever since the Destiny fiasco. Over hyped (or just hype in general) and pre investing in games is the doing of the consumer. Equally so, I cannot feel bad for the developer either because not only has content that was promised been cut, they don't communicate to their consumers about these things and leave them to find out on their own playing a game that is not the one they expected. Also now it seems they are 180'ing on the DLC issue. But like I've said to others; I enjoy the game, pricing should be lowered but since Sony funded them a more in depth product, such as what we've seen in past e3s and conferences, is needed to justify the $60 for How Long Can You Explore (x) Amount Of Planets Before You Lose Interest.
Simple answer: Even aside from the hype, even if there was no hype at all this is a pretty average/boring survival game with a lackluster inventory system which charges full price. Aside from the nice fassade there's nothing of substance so this game deserves critisism regardless of the hype that it generated
that's why I try to play as many alpha and beta nowadays just to get a sense of the game before pre-ordering anything. So many times game companies over-promise and under-deliver. Now I see why No Man's Sky didn't have alpha and open beta testing, or why they didn't want to release any gameplay videos - only small sneak a peaks.

But to sit there and have interviewers specifically ask about very specific features and affirm that those specific features are indeed there when they are most certainly NOT there...and then have the nerve to charge full price, knowing full and well that what you have promised will not be delivered?! This is precisely why I never buy anything at release. I always bide my time, see if it actually delivers, and then once it has proven itself, start enjoying it. It's also the same reason I don't trust anyone in politics.
I don't understand the outrage over the lack of a multiplayer. It would be like if they promised a feature for shooting stars where there was a one in a million chance of seeing one, and then removed it from the final game. Maybe it is slightly disappointing but ultimately 99.99% of people won't even notice that it is gone.

Those reviews are totally unfair. Most of the people who are angry had wonderful 30 to 40 hours with that game. But the only thing that they remember is not the fun they had. This game has great potential. It's overall and indie game title and people forget this. Games like GTA or others already have a game engine to work with and a foundation they are built on because of similar games before that one. No man's sky is something totally new. Maybe you never worked in the game industry. I have and I can tell you there are people to pay and obstacles to overcome in a small developer studio. There is no advertising money coming in and no great deals you can make with companies. You wanna know who is guilty? The gaming magazines and the fans who pushed that game up into the air without a clue what this will be about. Many people who really talk bad about the game are people who never purchased the game but they just repeat what magazines and facebook posts or steam reviews are telling them. If you wanna have a tip, don't play too far in the game just take yourself some time. Wait for the next updates to come and don't play this as your only game. When Minecraft was published there was no end and no long term motivation either but people loved it (pls remember Minecraft is based on java so it was not so expensive to develop it, therefore it was sold for a much cheaper price) wait for some updates and be happy you supported a small game studio or stop all that crying and screaming and put your money into huge game companies who often don't listen to their customers. im pissed at the game because sean promised so much bullshit that didnt happen when the game came out. you can other players. two ppl were on the same planet at the same time and in the exact same place and couldnt see each other so thats a lie. there are huge fleets in no mans sky. i havnt seen more than 3 big fleet ships in one place. you can land on asteroids and comets. nope cant do that. he made a good game yes but if he didnt spit out all of those lies then i would be on board all the way.

Every single trailer was scripted and programmed and not randomly generated. Which is completely contrary to what they said. Animals in the trailers aren't even in the actual game and don't even have a chance to be randomly generated. There are no wars, no massive ship fleets. No allies to fly and fight along side you. Just about everything about their trailers was a lie. Even small stuff like how easily they break the atmosphere on planets and seamlessly land on them in what they showed off, that was a lie too, it takes way longer to break through the atmosphere of planets as the planet is slowly being procedurally generated as you enter it's atmosphere. The only reason this game was hyped so much, is because the marketing of it was based off of lies.
I want more space fights , more ways to earn units , build space bases to increase storage, another way to upgrade my ship & mulit-tools, more HUGE HOSTILE ANIMALS, & a multiplayer matchmaking so i can just spawn on my friends . Make it happen hello games
Here's the deal, I have 88 hours logged in No Mans Sky. I have a 21 slot gun 43 slot ship and 48 slot suit. My experience so far has been mediocre at best. There is no objective, no end game, I find myself wandering a big empty universe. Right now I'm farming for my 48 slot ship, once I get that there will be nothing left to do besides get to the center of the universe. My biggest concern there is that it will be as underwhelming as the rest of the game. This is an awesome game when compared to the other Alpha survival titles on steam. Heres the deal, When you have the backing of a company like Sony and the price point of a AAA title. You need to put out a COMPLETE game. At the very least there needs to be few and far between missing features. At this point I have come to terms with Day 1 patches minor broken features things getting patched and improved over time. In conclusion if I paid 20 bucks for Alpha status No Mans Sky I would be happy as can be. Paying 60? Come on. This is just another tick towards another massive game crash like what happened in the 80's and sad to watch as history repeats itself.
So you've played 88 hours of NMS yet you find it mediocre AND then you complain about the price. I think you've gotten your $60 worth of enjoyment from the game if you have played 88 hours. Great games like far cry take over 30 hours to beat and that's really pushing it for me. I just want to beat the game and not let it drag out; I get tired of playing great games like far cry. Sean Murray Could've run away with the money, but even now he's still working on upgrades, I think if they carefully made their updates better it would be a great game, I have to admit, I got bored when the first update didn't exist, but as soon as the update came I played it, and I have developed a love for this game, judge me if you want, I don't care, you can't change my opinion.

45 hours in - about 5 systems almost explored ( not fully ofcourse unless i would count rare species and stuff ) and im still enjoying it. Probability of me enjoying it next 40 hours...? Very big. So yea, every person has different tastes, reasons and opinions. ( yes the game does not have lot of stuff he promised year or months ago ) but that alone for me cannot damage the amazing experience i have with it. Its nothing unusual. Also in that E3 trailer with the huge creature - that was probably the only thing that was scripted as in " Hard coded in the demo ", nothing else. The ships flying by that close to ground, the beautiful planets you can find, amazing creatures you can discover or dangerous weather and all that stuff... THAT IS ALL THERE... Not to mention he said planets would rotate around their " Axis " not around the Sun, so the " Fake light " you calling buddy, is actually the Sun of that system. The planets orbiting around Sun rumor i never even heard from anyone and i have my suspicion it was some asshole. so pointing out the obvious. Also Sean Murray after those trailers played the actual game as " Average " meaning he wanted people to see it 100% to make sure they know it doesnt work around some tricks or scripts ( i mean fuck, ofcourse the game is scripted, it works on formula, procedurally generated doesnt mean its LIVING ON ITS OWN, they made it to be what they wanted and then it has to create variations - like Lego if you will ) thats why many people get confused. They think " procedural " is random... but thats not even how it works. Remember it was made by about 10 to 20 people... in 3 years or so. That alone is amazing already.
I love the look of the game and ive enjoyed all the game play ive watched. The only thing I would really want is a building system, sort of like Subnautica, to encourage me to stay on each planet longer and really explore and catalog all the creatures ect. I loved the idea of Subnautica but hated that there were zero npcs, it looked like a very loney game to play. This game, combined with the building aspect of Subnautica could keep me happy for years. But then I never buy games with out watching youtube gameplay anyway, and I don't follow the pre launch hype, so I wasn't an angry unsatisfied customer to begin with. But I do agree that a lot of gamers now a days have their expectations way too high to begin with and pre ordering a game that's not finished is a bit silly to me.
lol the game from the very beginning was boring even if they had all the "features". Elite Dangerous is a game that has similar ideas yet is fairly shallow and even that game has more content. Just because other companies don't deliver on promises doesn't make it suddenly ok, guess what they get crucified too. To say there will be multiplayer but not really, but it's possible to each other but rare. Then the box of the game has a sticker over it covering up "Online". The amazing creatures? lol I've been to like 3-4 different planets and the creatures are indeed different but they're just body parts ripped off and randomized. OH he showed the game after the presentation? Oh I guess that makes up for all his lies then. The company played you.
It's not about that, I don't think. I think what most people are pissed off about is that they were promised so many features by Sean Murray, *before* it released. Heavily implying that everything he talked about (faction system, landing on asteroids, different, various ships, fucking *multiplayer* ) would be in the game on release. This is basically false advertisement. Blatant *lies* about No Man's Sky. Given tens of awards before it even came out. Given 10/10 ratings before it even came out. The nms team suffered huge setbacks foe to acts of god... ie a flood. They pretty much had to start over and that was after the hype train already started.
I was never interested in No Man Sky. and that's because when i hear "A entire universe procedurally generated" i don't start to dream. Im 34 years old, gamer all my life, and i know what to expect and what not. I don't care what developer says, i don't listen to them, its all marketing and PR. 6:30 So yes, you have some responsibility... if companies lied to you always about everything, why do you keep listen to them? In any other aspect of your life im pretty sure that you learn from past experience.... but in this case you want to dream... there's nothing wrong with that, but don't feel bad and start screaming when you're wakened up. Modding is already improving the game, I'm sure even if HG drops the ball modders will make the game crazy cool. It already has an extender to allow modders to load custom .dlls
Hey ok listen I've just received word that in the next update there will be ground vehicles planet terra forming and base building but something went severely wrong and messed up the multiplayer so a patch was done when the relished this and that's why there's no multiplayer

For Gods sake people Sean Murray has not lied about anything, what you get when you buy the game is what is stated in the game description, not months before when the game is not even finished yet, and when many things may still get cut. I love No Man's Sky, and what Hello Games and Sean have done is incredible.

Let's assume for a moment that you pre-ordered the game while they were still yelling about it being multiplayer. And they did. You can't deny that, watch the interviews, look at old twitter posts. It was 3 days or something. LESS THEN A WEEK before release when they came out about that not being the case. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO multiplayer elements to this. Not even time syncs up. What the fuck is this shit?
He also stated multiple times that it's not a "traditional" multiplayer. The uploading your discoveries is essentially the multiplayer. Plus, Pre-ordering is a bad idea if you're sure you'll like it. I pre-ordered and I'm happy with the result.

I think a lot of hate is being generated by people overstating "missing features". That Reddit user who compiled a list jumped the gun in a massive fashion - the game had been out a couple days, and he was going off his experiences. He said, "animals don't attack each other", "there's no faction battles", "theres no rivers and canyons", etc. he made a load of claims that turned out to be false and didn't bother to keep up with editing. However - even in this video - people are repeating these claims as if they're the truth, ignoring evidence. When I made a post pointing out all the inaccuracies I got a torrent of hate. People weren't out to scrutinise the game, they were out to hate. The hate is being perpetuated on the back of want to hate - not reason to hate. There are a couple things missing, granted, but the hate is overblown. As for the game itself - I really don't know what some people were expecting. Expecting more than you see on gameplay demonstrations is silly.
Also, should point out Falcon that "we just like to show people it's a real place", doesn't equate to, "we're saying this is random". It's essentially saying, "this isn't cinematic, this is a genuine demo area". As for the trailer in question we knew that trailer was staged - there was a behind the scenes for it, I mean Pete's sake anyone who didn't know it was a staged trailer after that is dense.
I've seen on my planet a dinosaur killing a smaller creature, I haven't seen it since but I haven't come across a hell of a lot of aggressive creatures yet, except for those annoying fucken spider crabs

Personally I think this game has a lot of potential. It started with a real small team and now they've got a lot of money, for a small team. If they're smart they'll do a lot of hiring. They'll put their money back into the game and it'll become at least close to what they promised.
You know they have already hired a dedicated team to deal with fixing all the reported bugs. They are putting the money back into it to make it better and keep evolving the game. I have faith in the game, I know it's only going to get better, also I love it already

Honestly, I think Sony takes the blame once more. They push Games beyond their limits, as they have with multiple titles from their PlayStation 4 lineup. They made us believe NMS was as big as a AAA Game, while its developers were unable to deliver one. The idea of NMS was and is great, but as said, a developer consisting of 15 individuals should be unable to deliver a game exceeding the scope of a game like CoD or Destiny. Minecraft was initially developed by an even smaller team, but it never became a game you'd have to buy for 60 bucks or even more. I haven't played NMS and yet I believe the game could become a really good game. It just isn't done yet.

When SM made a false statement, they should have clarified upon this. And still: with some patches (or content updates) this game might deliver what it promised. I think it's great I have been spending most of my free time exploring planets. Although I can't recommend anyone to buy it only for its many problems with frame rate.

I as a veteran Gamer am terribly disappointed by no mans sky. On so many levels. And I know this is going to sound petty but my biggest SINGLE complaint about the game is this. WHERE THE HELL IS THE FREE LOOK???? I mean COME ON. How the hell can one be expected to fly a ship without being able to turn your freakin HEAD to the side or look up and down? This is BASIC shit that is pretty much required for ANY kind of space/air flight. And is pretty well game breaking in my honest opinion. That is just my BIGGEST gripe. I wont even begin to unload the other issues I find with it. But yes. I am angry with where my $60 went. And it took enough time to learn how bad it was that I burned RIGHT PAST the refund period. I'm stuck with this giant walking simulator.

I get you man. It's the little things that make a big difference. A similar game breaker for me was in Fallout 4. The way you can't holster weapons. As in, you're carrying an assault rifle, hold X and it just.. Disappears.. In Fallout 3 you could stroll around the wasteland with your dog, hunting rifle slung across your shoulder, and in Fallout 4 they just decided to be lazy and scrap a simple, but immersive mechanic. Fucking game developers..
So far I have watched a large number of reviews and read up on this game extensively. And all of the reviews have the same structure : 1) "I enjoyed the first few hours of the game." 2) "Realized that most of the features promised where not there." 3) "Planets are technically different but basically the same." 4) "The game is the size of an ocean, but the depth of a puddle" This brings me to the conclusion that this game is a steaming pile of shit, several different reviewers won't all come out to the same conclusion if the game wasn't a turd.

Haven't picked it up yet but from the gameplay, I can see I won't enjoy it. An ocean wide but an inch deep as one of the top comments states. All about that Soon and Moon hype.
Sreyash Gudavalli Ark is fucking awful. When people complained NMS wouldn't work they worked overnight and fixed well over 90% of the crashing issues, Ark still barely runs on COMMON GRAPHICS CARDS years after release. Ark gets way too much praise for the pile of crap it is.

Since I followed the game throughout it's development I knew exactly what it was going to be and I knew exactly what to expect from it and it completely met my expectations. The only people not liking the game are those that over-hyped it and expected it to be something that it's not.
I have enjoyed the game too.. It's a nice and chill game and still does have enough exploring to be done if just having the patience to do so, but if I look through the trailers again, it does make me sigh out loud in hopes that we got something as solid as the trailers show. If you haven't looked through em now after playing, I suggest you do.. The gameplay experience and footage shown do not match and it really can't be denied.

He knew the game he was making was only going to appeal to a certain crowd. He may have spoke about certain things that he shouldn't have but even so any missing features will likely be added in patches.

Because of the LIES. As a scientist - and gamer - I would have been perfectly content with what was released had it been indicated that it would be just that. A universe of unlimited planets generated by a (relatively) simple math function that are somewhat realistic in the result. That - would have been enough. But then he started making promises that he would have had to have No interaction with the game in development not to know every one of them were untrue.

This video went way too easy on the game. Yes, we know that companies lies, but No Man's Sky promised multiplayer, one of the biggest reasons for why a lot of people bought the game. It's not just lying off-hand, but willingly deceiving people into buying the game.
I remember thinking how, given the circumstances of the game, I probably would squeal and instantly try to befriend the first person I met in game, simply because it would be a rare event. Do you know how hard it is to make someone excited just for the idea of being able to see another person's character? That's the main reason I was disappointed.

The pre-orders for this game were off the charts. It was making tens of millions in revenue before it even launched and quite frankly, I suspect the only reason the game was delayed was to milk more pre-orders because they knew it would flop after launch. That's the problem - PREORDERS. You can hate all you want but if you really want to get revenge on companies AND improve gaming, delay your purchase a day or two and buy a reviewed game. No pre-orders means that companies will have make good games BEFORE they get paid, which is the way it should be.

Also, and I know this is a pretty revolutionary concept these days, but how about bringing back the ability to rent games so we can play them and see if we like them _before_ we buy them? Ever notice how the pre-order debacles didn't really get started until after places like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video went out of business? You couldn't rent games anymore (unless you've got a GameFly account and, by all reports, how good a service it is depends entirely on how close you live to one of their _four_ warehouses), so you had to buy them outright, leading to a lot of people pre-ordering them and then a lot of buyer's remorse when it turned out to not be what they were expecting or to just be flat out broken (I'm looking at you AC:Unity).
Thankfully, you can still rent games from Redbox, even if it's only for the most recent AAA titles; it's not quite as good as the glory days of Blockbuster carrying years worth of games for each system, but at least it's something.
Mark Paz You obviously missed where I mentioned GameFly and then pointed out that the service is really only good if you live near one of their distribution centers, of which there are only 6 nationwide; otherwise, their turn around times can be pretty horrible (I've heard of up to 2 week delays from multiple sources). Furthermore, because of supply & demand problems, it's apparently almost impossible to get anything newer than six months old, by which point you've probably forgotten all about it.
GameFly also operates on a monthly subscription of 16$ a month to have one game at a time. The caveats to this are no limits to how many games you can rent per month (theoretically, anyway) and you can cancel your subscription at any time then restart it whenever. That said, let's talk about that whole "as many games as you want". GameFly themselves say you'll have your game in 1-3 days, likely with 3 days being the norm unless you live a city over from one of their distribution centers. Say you take a single day to play the game, just to get a feel for it and see if you think it's worth buying. Basic math will tell you that all adds up to 7 days for a single game, making for 4 games max you can get per month (which averages out to about 4$ a game). Sure, you can upgrade to their 2 games for 23$ a month plan, but then you technically have even less time to play each game, so why bother?
Redbox is 3$ a day, which can get expensive quite quickly (I once ended up paying 24$ for a single game that I just got completely lost in), but you get the game same day, if you only keep it for 24 hours, it's 3$, so unless you're a very heavy gamer, renting a half dozen or so games a month or you lose track of time on a single game, it can be a fair bit cheaper. Even if you _are_ a heavy gamer, if you only keep each game a day, you could rent 5 games before you break even with GameFly; however, since there are no shipping times and everything's same day, you could easily rent and play far more.
All that said, however, my town had a little locally run rental place that recently closed down when the owners retired (depressing, but since I mainly used them for games and they hadn't updated their selection since about November '14, it wasn't a major blow). I could rent a game for 5 days for 7$... Or thereabouts; it's been a long time since I rented anything from them, so my memory's a bit fuzzy, but I remember it being in the single digits. I also remember Blockbuster charging roughly similar prices for games back in the day (though I think it was like 7$ for 3 days). Again, there were no shipping times, no potential delays, no possible getting lost in transit that could cost _you_ money, like there are with GameFly, but unlike Redbox, it wasn't a per-day fee, meaning it was cheaper than both.
I have always rented games, even back when we were complaining about them now costing 50$ instead of 40$, nevermind them being 60$ brand new nowadays, because it means I wasn't dropping a load of money on what was potentially a really shitty game. However, now that you basically have no choice _but_ to buy them outright if the game isn't one of the lucky few to hit Redbox, I've bought a couple games I was less than satisfied with; thankfully, they were never at full price, I've never felt the bite quite as deep, but I can only imagine how much it must hurt to drop 60$ on a game that, frankly, sucks donkey dick.
TL;DR - GameFly's okay, but it really can't hold a candle to local brick-and-mortar rental stores, which we desperately need back, because then we'd be able to try before we buy then game companies wouldn't get away with pushing shit on us and not caring since they've already got our money.

The main ripoff is the price.. They only took advantage of the "Hype" to put an insanely high price for a game that, if played, is totally not worth it.
They overprice the game due to the amount of idiots believing that they would get all what they promised. I highly agree. $60 for a supposed brand new concept of a game is too much, even certain franchise games are not worth that much but the fans buy them at their still high prices because they know they're getting a quality game. People paid $60 for a promise that was not fulfilled. In the end, money is really the major factor for why this games is getting a lot of hatred. Had this game been worth, say, $5, people would be annoyed at best but then forget about the issues after a little while.

If any of you guys were dissapointed by No mans sky and want a survival space game I would seriously recommend playing Starbound. The controls are a bit weird at first but it's so amazingly good and gives you the feeling of an actual endless world that's filled with lore and wonder. It's basically everything NMS wasn't.
I have 75 hours into this game. I enjoy this game. However, I will never purchase another product from this company again. No Man's Sky devs have lied time and time again about what they have produced. I strongly advise anyone reading this to join me in this.

No Man Should buy this game at full retail price. This is a $19.99 game at most. $40 of the price is all hype. Edit: Okay, maybe $29.99.
Factors that probably contributed to the price: their studio got flooded, Sony stepping in to do marketing, the guy who thought right trigger is for sprinting on PS.
I think it was more of an idea Sony had for business and how they were marketing it which influenced the 60$ price tag. Honestly I love the game, but it is an indie game at heart and I would have like to pay a max of 30$.

Spacewhales were a joke. I never heard anything about an advanced trading system. The crafting and resource system is exactly what has been promised. Joining factions has never been promised. Animals that can interact with the enviroment also were never promised. We did receive a stunningly beautiful universe. To be able to never see the same ship twice has never been promised. Multiplayer rings has never been promised. Naming your ship has never been promised. Epic spacebattles, we did receive, it is just that, just as with everything epic in open world sandbox games, may or may not happen in every situation. Scaring off animals is something we can do.

I think the biggest issue No Man's Sky has had is due to the size of the studio that produced it and the fact Sean Murray was a bit too honest sometimes. Because it's such a small company they won't have a PR department and the chances are Sean Murray has very little training in handling the media. So he will say things like "Oh yeah you can land on asteroids" and "the only way you will see what you look like is when someone else sees you" because at that stage of development either it was in the build they were using or it was planned to be put in. Things been cut in and out of video games happens all the time but you don't hear about most of it until long after the game comes out (if at all) because the PR team in the company control that information heavily.
I have a friend who works for Blizzard whenever anyone says anything to the press they are told what they can and can't say. There is plenty of stuff that has almost made it into live Blizzard games that was cut just before it was about to be announced for various reason.

Wouldn't you be? It is a small studio, so we expected better of them in terms of honesty and transparency. We got something almost as bad as EA or Ubisoft. I did all the research I could in the 2 month delay, finding anything I could in terms of interviews with Sean and demo gameplay. What I saw made me so excited for this game! Not that super-hype that some DID have, but definitely excited. Then the game comes out. I play the best 5 hours of any game I've played in years. Then I began to see what the game truly was. It was, and is, nothing of what we were promised for years. Nothing of what we were promised in even June. That realization absolutely destroyed my desire to play this game. At least until it's close to what we were promised, if that even happens. Now tell me; would you not be disappointed too?

Did you watch the video? It isn't completely because of hype. There were MANY things that were promised (even in June) that weren't implemented into the game. Although there are a lot that was and is in the game, almost everything that isn't in the game is what sold me on it to begin with. Same with many others.

@@severzz1108 No. It's not bad. It does have a few problems though but its not enough to make me cry about it. Sometimes things don't load correctly like clothing and your space suit. Landing the ships on planets is really weird sometimes. Spawning a freighter is really annoying sometimes because it can only spawn in certain parts of space. I still love that game. The story is pretty good too. The graphics are beautiful. You can also drive mechs and stuff once you're on a planet.
If the price is the same price as a AAA game we expect a AAA game not a piece of garbage.

It already is Torrented and quite a lot of people are playing that Version, and the AMD CPU bug fix is already there as an update with the latest patch is out. Problem with NMS was that it was a indie game that promised AAA content. In the end, the "AAA content" was delivered in indie game fashion. Many promises that dingus Sean Murray promised was not included.
Now, I believe the game itself can become a very great game to mod. ie include actually unique ships, fleet battles, or even an odd story line or two.
Which is the other funny thing. A game like ARK never promised AAA features and is very open about being an indie game but still is extremely good (on par with AAA games) and kept the $17-25 price tag (depending when you buy it). It's never pretended to be something it wasn't.
I would never EVER mod a game selling for a top price, just so that in the end it resembles to a 3A game, so that we get only a slight fraction of what was promised during the pre-order campaign justifying a top price! Or they'd have to pay me.

I believe the whole NMS situation is a combination of points you've both made. While I still enjoy the product, I understand and agree with the disappointment longtime followers of the project point out.
However I don't feel sorry for people ever since the Destiny fiasco. Over hyped (or just hype in general) and pre investing in games is the doing of the consumer. Equally so, I cannot feel bad for the developer either because not only has content that was promised been cut, they don't communicate to their consumers about these things and leave them to find out on their own playing a game that is not the one they expected. Also now it seems they are 180'ing on the DLC issue.
But like I've said to others; I enjoy the game, pricing should be lowered but since Sony funded them a more in depth product, such as what we've seen in past e3s and conferences, is needed to justify the $60 for How Long Can You Explore (x) Amount Of Planets Before You Lose Interest.
Simple answer: Even aside from the hype, even if there was no hype at all this is a pretty average/boring survival game with a lackluster inventory system which charges full price. Aside from the nice fassade there's nothing of substance so this game deserves critisism regardless of the hype that it generated
that's why I try to play as many alpha and beta nowadays just to get a sense of the game before pre-ordering anything. So many times game companies over-promise and under-deliver. Now I see why No Man's Sky didn't have alpha and open beta testing, or why they didn't want to release any gameplay videos - only small sneak a peaks.

To answer the question posed in the title of the video: people hate the game because it really is a mediocre game with a cool world like you said, but mediocre all the same. Same sentiments people would ascribe to Transformers movies. On top of this, I think the outrageous claims Murray made deserves all the hate that's out there right now, precluding some of the irrational complaints like you discussed. You have misjudged this controversy.

Like I hardly buy games anymore because I'm extremely skeptical of this kind of thing. Over-hyped games. Last games I bought were Overwatch, because I thought a nice artsy shooter would be nice, and Borderlands: the Pre-sequel, because Borderlands is good. Before that was ... I don't even know ... Halo 5? That was a bit of a mistake.
I agree. It's one thing to make grandiose, albeit vague, ambiguous promises about something, going on about how this will be "the next big thing" without delving into superfluous detail. But to sit there and have interviewers specifically ask about very specific features and affirm that those specific features are indeed there when they are most certainly NOT there...and then have the nerve to charge full price, knowing full and well that what you have promised will not be delivered?! Dude, that's downright criminal misrepresentation.
This is precisely why I never buy anything at release. I always bide my time, see if it actually delivers, and then once it has proven itself, start enjoying it.
It's also the same reason I don't trust anyone in politics.
I don't understand the outrage over the lack of a multiplayer. It would be like if they promised a feature for shooting stars where there was a one in a million chance of seeing one, and then removed it from the final game. Maybe it is slightly disappointing but ultimately 99.99% of people won't even notice that it is gone.

Those reviews are totally unfair. Most of the people who are angry had wonderful 30 to 40 hours with that game. But the only thing that they remember is not the fun they had. This game has great potential. It's overall and indie game title and people forget this. Games like GTA or others already have a game engine to work with and a foundation they are built on because of similar games before that one. No man's sky is something totally new. Maybe you never worked in the game industry. I have and I can tell you there are people to pay and obstacles to overcome in a small developer studio. There is no advertising money coming in and no great deals you can make with companies.
You wanna know who is guilty? The gaming magazines and the fans who pushed that game up into the air without a clue what this will be about. Many people who really talk bad about the game are people who never purchased the game but they just repeat what magazines and facebook posts or steam reviews are telling them.
If you wanna have a tip, don't play too far in the game just take yourself some time. Wait for the next updates to come and don't play this as your only game. When Minecraft was published there was no end and no long term motivation either but people loved it (pls remember Minecraft is based on java so it was not so expensive to develop it, therefore it was sold for a much cheaper price) wait for some updates and be happy you supported a small game studio or stop all that crying and screaming and put your money into huge game companies who often don't listen to their customers. I was really hyped because of what they promised, i didnt knew they were a bunch of liars.
Every single trailer was scripted and programmed and not randomly generated. Which is completely contrary to what they said. Animals in the trailers aren't even in the actual game and don't even have a chance to be randomly generated. There are no wars, no massive ship fleets. No allies to fly and fight along side you. Just about everything about their trailers was a lie. Even small stuff like how easily they break the atmosphere on planets and seamlessly land on them in what they showed off, that was a lie too, it takes way longer to break through the atmosphere of planets as the planet is slowly being procedurally generated as you enter it's atmosphere. The only reason this game was hyped so much, is because the marketing of it was based off of lies.

Here's the deal, I have 88 hours logged in No Mans Sky. I have a 21 slot gun 43 slot ship and 48 slot suit. My experience so far has been mediocre at best. There is no objective, no end game, I find myself wandering a big empty universe. Right now I'm farming for my 48 slot ship, once I get that there will be nothing left to do besides get to the center of the universe. My biggest concern there is that it will be as underwhelming as the rest of the game.
This is an awesome game when compared to the other Alpha survival titles on steam. Heres the deal, When you have the backing of a company like Sony and the price point of a AAA title. You need to put out a COMPLETE game. At the very least there needs to be few and far between missing features. At this point I have come to terms with Day 1 patches minor broken features things getting patched and improved over time.
In conclusion if I paid 20 bucks for Alpha status No Mans Sky I would be happy as can be. Paying 60? Come on. This is just another tick towards another massive game crash like what happened in the 80's and sad to watch as history repeats itself.

45 hours in - about 5 systems almost explored ( not fully ofcourse unless i would count rare species and stuff ) and im still enjoying it. Probability of me enjoying it next 40 hours...? Very big.

The ships flying by that close to ground, the beautiful planets you can find, amazing creatures you can discover or dangerous weather and all that stuff... THAT IS ALL THERE... Not to mention he said planets would rotate around their " Axis " not around the Sun, so the " Fake light " you calling buddy, is actually the Sun of that system. The planets orbiting around Sun rumor i never even heard from anyone and i have my suspicion it was some asshole. so pointing out the obvious. Also Sean Murray after those trailers played the actual game as " Average " meaning he wanted people to see it 100% to make sure they know it doesnt work around some tricks or scripts ( i mean fuck, ofcourse the game is scripted, it works on formula, procedurally generated doesnt mean its LIVING ON ITS OWN, they made it to be what they wanted and then it has to create variations - like Lego if you will ) thats why many people get confused. They think " procedural " is random... but thats not even how it works.
Remember it was made by about 10 to 20 people... in 3 years or so. That alone is amazing already.
I love the look of the game and ive enjoyed all the game play ive watched. The only thing I would really want is a building system, sort of like Subnautica, to encourage me to stay on each planet longer and really explore and catalog all the creatures ect. I loved the idea of Subnautica but hated that there were zero npcs, it looked like a very loney game to play. This game, combined with the building aspect of Subnautica could keep me happy for years. But then I never buy games with out watching youtube gameplay anyway, and I don't follow the pre launch hype, so I wasn't an angry unsatisfied customer to begin with. But I do agree that a lot of gamers now a days have their expectations way too high to begin with and pre ordering a game that's not finished is a bit silly to me.

No we didn't want a gem we wanted at least a boulder not a fucking pebble of a game don't get me wrong I know games have bugs, stuff cut out graphical down grades but nearly all of the stuff they promised is missing the only thing that's in the game that they promised is lots of planets and galaxies, naming things flying a space ship, random animal generator (a really bad one, none of the animals look good they all look like a 3 year olds creation on spore and I know the animals are random and your going to say it's just my game but every game I've seen people play on TH-cam in person and myself have only found different variations of 6 or 7 animals), sentinels, mining and resource gathering (and a terrible system for mining what's the point of a heat meter when you can stop firing for a split second and fire again and the weapon over heat meter resets) and space combat (which is terrible as the auto aim is completely off, which I'll remind you in a space game is one of the most...

Hey ok listen I've just received word that in the next update there will be ground vehicles planet terra forming and base building but something went severely wrong and messed up the multiplayer so a patch was done when the relished this and that's why there's no multiplayer

For Gods sake people Sean Murray has not lied about anything, what you get when you buy the game is what is stated in the game description, not months before when the game is not even finished yet, and when many things may still get cut. Let's assume for a moment that you pre-ordered the game while they were still yelling about it being multiplayer. And they did. You can't deny that, watch the interviews, look at old twitter posts. It was 3 days or something. LESS THEN A WEEK before release when they came out about that not being the case. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO multiplayer elements to this. Not even time syncs up. What the fuck is this shit?
He also stated multiple times that it's not a "traditional" multiplayer. The uploading your discoveries is essentially the multiplayer. Plus, Pre-ordering is a bad idea if you're sure you'll like it. I pre-ordered and I'm happy with the result.

I didn't pre-order the game, and I'm glad I didn't. A friend of mine did and he highly regretted it after trying to get into it for about 5 hours. (He really wanted to find value in a 60$ tech demo.)

I think a lot of hate is being generated by people overstating "missing features". That Reddit user who compiled a list jumped the gun in a massive fashion - the game had been out a couple days, and he was going off his experiences.
He said, "animals don't attack each other", "there's no faction battles", "theres no rivers and canyons", etc. he made a load of claims that turned out to be false and didn't bother to keep up with editing. However - even in this video - people are repeating these claims as if they're the truth, ignoring evidence.
When I made a post pointing out all the inaccuracies I got a torrent of hate. People weren't out to scrutinise the game, they were out to hate.
The hate is being perpetuated on the back of want to hate - not reason to hate. There are a couple things missing, granted, but the hate is overblown.
As for the game itself - I really don't know what some people were expecting. Expecting more than you see on gameplay demonstrations is silly.
Also, should point out Falcon that "we just like to show people it's a real place", doesn't equate to, "we're saying this is random". It's essentially saying, "this isn't cinematic, this is a genuine demo area".
As for the trailer in question we knew that trailer was staged - there was a behind the scenes for it, I mean Pete's sake anyone who didn't know it was a staged trailer after that is dense.
I've seen on my planet a dinosaur killing a smaller creature, I haven't seen it since but I haven't come across a hell of a lot of aggressive creatures yet, except for those annoying fucken spider crabs

Personally I think this game has a lot of potential. It started with a real small team and now they've got a lot of money, for a small team. If they're smart they'll do a lot of hiring. They'll put their money back into the game and it'll become at least close to what they promised.
It really could be great.
You know they have already hired a dedicated team to deal with fixing all the reported bugs. They are putting the money back into it to make it better and keep evolving the game.
I have faith in the game, I know it's only going to get better, also I love it already

Honestly, I think Sony takes the blame once more. They push Games beyond their limits, as they have with multiple titles from their PlayStation 4 lineup. They made us believe NMS was as big as a AAA Game, while its developers were unable to deliver one. The idea of NMS was and is great, but as said, a developer consisting of 15 individuals should be unable to deliver a game exceeding the scope of a game like CoD or Destiny. Minecraft was initially developed by an even smaller team, but it never became a game you'd have to buy for 60 bucks or even more. I haven't played NMS and yet I believe the game could become a really good game. It just isn't done yet.
Guess he made some statements that sounded good, but he wasn't able to back them up. But Sony published the game and managed prette much of its Promotion. When SM made a false statement, they should have clarified upon this.
And still: with some patches (or content updates) this game might deliver what it promised. But right now it's not worth the money you need to spend on it.

I think it's great I have been spending most of my free time exploring planets. Although I can't recommend anyone to buy it only for its many problems with frame rate.

I as a veteran Gamer am terribly disappointed by no mans sky. On so many levels. And I know this is going to sound petty but my biggest SINGLE complaint about the game is this. WHERE THE HELL IS THE FREE LOOK???? I mean COME ON. How the hell can one be expected to fly a ship without being able to turn your freakin HEAD to the side or look up and down? This is BASIC shit that is pretty much required for ANY kind of space/air flight. And is pretty well game breaking in my honest opinion. That is just my BIGGEST gripe. I wont even begin to unload the other issues I find with it. But yes. I am angry with where my $60 went. And it took enough time to learn how bad it was that I burned RIGHT PAST the refund period. I'm stuck with this giant walking simulator.

I get you man. It's the little things that make a big difference. A similar game breaker for me was in Fallout 4. The way you can't holster weapons. As in, you're carrying an assault rifle, hold X and it just.. Disappears.. In Fallout 3 you could stroll around the wasteland with your dog, hunting rifle slung across your shoulder, and in Fallout 4 they just decided to be lazy and scrap a simple, but immersive mechanic. Fucking game developers..

So far I have watched a large number of reviews and read up on this game extensively. And all of the reviews have the same structure :
1) "I enjoyed the first few hours of the game."
2) "Realized that most of the features promised where not there."
3) "Planets are technically different but basically the same."
4) "The game is the size of an ocean, but the depth of a puddle"
This brings me to the conclusion that this game is a steaming pile of shit, several different reviewers won't all come out to the same conclusion if the game wasn't a turd.

Sreyash Gudavalli Ark is fucking awful. When people complained NMS wouldn't work they worked overnight and fixed well over 90% of the crashing issues, Ark still barely runs on COMMON GRAPHICS CARDS years after release.

Mischievous Roze In terms of gameplay its better than no mans sky. I agree about the optimization. I have a gtx 970 and i get 30-40 fps on high but its still on early access.
Since I followed the game throughout it's development I knew exactly what it was going to be and I knew exactly what to expect from it and it completely met my expectations. The only people not liking the game are those that over-hyped it and expected it to be something that it's not.
I have enjoyed the game too.. It's a nice and chill game and still does have enough exploring to be done if just having the patience to do so, but if I look through the trailers again, it does make me sigh out loud in hopes that we got something as solid as the trailers show. If you haven't looked through em now after playing, I suggest you do.. The gameplay experience and footage shown do not match and it really can't be denied.

He knew the game he was making was only going to appeal to a certain crowd. He may have spoke about certain things that he shouldn't have but even so any missing features will likely be added in patches.

A universe of unlimited planets generated by a (relatively) simple math function that are somewhat realistic in the result.
That - would have been enough.
But then he started making promises that he would have had to have No interaction with the game in development not to know every one of them were untrue.
I'm 62 hours in and still enjoying the game, so I really don't get the hate. I guess it comes down to what people wanted in the first place.

Yes, we know that companies lies, but No Man's Sky promised multiplayer, one of the biggest reasons for why a lot of people bought the game. It's not just lying off-hand, but willingly deceiving people into buying the game.
I remember thinking how, given the circumstances of the game, I probably would squeal and instantly try to befriend the first person I met in game, simply because it would be a rare event.
Do you know how hard it is to make someone excited just for the idea of being able to see another person's character?
