Considering that ALL primarchs are partial creatures of the warp from the very beginning, this makes sense in the Lions case. Sounds like he accepted his gifts and learned to properly use them, just like Corax did.

The Tuchulca Engine I believe it was called. It's some kind of ancient sentient device, The Lion discovered it during the Heresy and managed to stop Typhon of the Death Guard from getting it. It's theorised to be some kind of Warp entity.
The Lion had extensive conversations with the device after he retrieved it, he even confided in it more than anything or anyone else. After the Heresy it became embedded within the rock.
It's part of a triumvirate of similar sentient devices all capable of extremely efficient and accurate Warp jumps. When combine together they can even allow travel through time.
The Dark Angels eventually found the other two and had all three but Ezekiel convinced Azrael it was not worth the risk trying to alter time and history just to stop The Fallen. So Azrael destroyed the other two devices.

Lion doesn't actually look as old on that book cover as his model does; I think having his hair pulled back with the style of moustache and beard he's wearing gives his face a very angular look; maybe he's not as quite as old-looking as we thought? Anyway, it doesn't matter - the only other thing I can think of regarding his new warp/forest walking ability (besides the Watchers granting it to him) is Tuchulcha. I know Azrael and Co. still have him on their flag ship but that warp entity always demonstrated an affinity to Lion; perhaps a way was found where Lion could access his teleport abilities remotely? I'm just tossing out ideas here. All in all, I like this new background information and it's kind of cool that he's actually been active on the down-low for some time. There could be some very interesting stories to tell from that perspective. I look forward to learning more; I wonder when that Son of the Forest book will be out? Thanks for the video !

The forest walk is interesting, the idea that I think it’s trying to express is that a part of Lion never left the dark savage forest where he was found, and that part if him brings it with him where ever he goes, the effects of the warp manifesting that part of his psyche whenever he stalks his prey.

  • @dittmar104

There is a quote in The eye of terra novel that said something along the lines of 'each navigator perceives the warp differently as their fragile mind tries to make sense of the un-physics.' Clearly the lion has achieved this and his mind uses the forests of Caliban where he survived before being taken in by Luther in his adulthood to navigate the warp. The book goes further to note that only a navigator or a demon can navigate the warp, it's possible that the lion is managed to tap into the powers of the warp entity used to create his soul.

I believe that the ability to walk/jump through the warp is neither imperial tech nor his new, never before discussed skill, but of the watchers in the dark.
They have always been able to appear and disappear from and to nowwhere and brought the Lion to a chamber in the Rock, that is acutally unaccessabil. Makes total sense, that they do it by some warp-trickery and that they ofer it to the lion. Either by going with him and opening it up for him (they are on his base after all) or by giving him some artefact or maybe teaching him...

I like the green knight element they dashed into his king Arthur aspect. Seems pretty clear to me his forest walk ability is warpbased. They always said Caliban had a life of its own. The lore in 30k really made it feel like a character all it's own that the DA both loved it and knew that it was incredibly deadly and not exactly their friend.
I think part of the soul of Caliban bled itself into the Lion during its destruction and his duel with Luther. Plenty of swirling energies and warp saturation to justify this. Now caliban lives on inside him.

NGL the warp travel thing and the BAs finding that empty Ark is pretty sick. Same goes that he's been awake, gives us a different way of the "waking of a Primarch" as well. It was one big shock for Guilliman, who woke up with enemies right in front of him. So they could write the Lion's discovery of how much worse the Imperium is 10'000 years later step by step and slowly over many years between him waking up in Nihilus and the Arks of Omen story line.
Also the thing about Big E's shield, honestly I could see them writing it in the Scouring series that every loyalist Primarch or at least some find or take or get a specific artifact that was made by Big E, maybe some kind of farewell thing by Big E himself even where he told Valdor who inherits what and so the Lion takes a shield home to Caliban

It wasn't any "1/2 of the legion".
It was 20,000 astartes, then subtract the number that died in the legion's bombardment and invasion.
The legion was well over 100k, yes, they took losses, but seriously.
The 1st Legion was purging Caliban and the defense platforms.
The Calibanite astartes fled from Corswain's onslaught, which means that they could not practically maintain a defense. . . which means big casualty differentials.

Lion's always been humble. That was the point of his Primarch novel. He doesn't feed off of glory like his brothers. He's the only Primarch who does it for the sake of duty alone. Regarding his warp walking, I'm willing to bet that the Orobourus cursed him like Mkar did with Draigo and it's finally wearing off. Plus remember that the Dreadwing Protocols gave Lion exclusive access to archeotech that surpassed anything the other legions had access to. It's likely he's just using what he had but never used unless absolutely necessary. Say the Fall of Caliban and fighting warp entities? I'm looking forward to it. Siege of Terra has been a disaster but the progression of 40k has been decent so far.

So I'm interested to see if the Lion actually used it in the fight with Luther or how else it ended up there.
It is also said in Cypher: Lord of the Fallen that the sword is actually a key for a door. Chances are its not meant to be wielded by the Lion maybe just to set him free... or who knows? Maybe it unlocks what Vasthorr was after (he was looking for keys).
