This video helped me so much. I have a 2004 BMW X5 4.4 with similar problems.🤮 I have already changed the solenoids which helped tremendously now after watching this video I'm going to go out and pull mine apart and see if I have any corrosion. Thank you very much..🤙

Yes i did enjoy this video and thanks for making them. There is one statement you said that i disagree with, no fancy tools used, what about a nice scan tool, a proper wiring schematic and your brain. See ya in your next vid, thanks again.

Thanks for watching. The diagram is posted online. I found it doing a simple Google search. The scan tool didn't do anything that anyone else's wouldnt do that has TCM communication. The DIAGUN is pretty cheap when you compare it to other tools. It's a lot cheaper than the harbor fright high end tool.

You would have to figure out what it causing it to go into limp mode. I would scan it first and then see if their are codes. If their are then get service information and see what the causes them to set.

@@RobertDotterer One of the codes are idle air control valve sensor could that cause that problem?

    Great job, Thank you!
I presume you Water tight /sealed the relay box after your fix?
As to the SAP, I just deleted mine ( BMW makes a delete plate) since I live in the rural south and don’t have to meet any city/state codes.

I didn't seal the box. I cleaned some leaves away but the bottom of the box is open. I didn't see a point in sealing it. Thanks for watching. It means a lot to me.

Your video is quite helpful, but leaves one big question. We all saw how you resolved the solenoid issues (corroded contacts got cleaned thoroughly, also cleaned EGS Control Unit board), but what resolved EGS Signal Line Disturbed? I have a 2001 750IL that has been stuck in Transmission Failsafe Program with the same EGS Signal Line Disturbed error for over a year while I sorted out other electrical maladies and previous owner neglect on it, due to sunroof drain leaks.
It is my uncle's car and he is on a fixed income due to being a disabled Vietnam veteran and I have been donating my time and effort to get it back up and running, but this issue has me completely baffled as there didn't appear to be visible corrosion on any of the EGS connectors. The EML (V12 throttle control) was visible corroded and reporting Error Number 00, as was its connectors corroded too. It got replaced, connectors cleaned up, but did not resolve the EGS Signal Line Disturbed issue.
I can send you a log from PA Soft BMW-Scanner that spells out everything the car is doing, if that would help.

The EGS signal line code I believe is a can communication code. You probably need to test the battery to make sure it is in really good condition, needs to be load tested and cranking should not drop below 10v. Also need to check the can network for a proper waveform. If that is good then load test powers and ground. If they are good check the inputs then it's probably a bad tcm unless the network is bad. Then you need to find the bad module.

@@RobertDotterer Thank you for the prompt response. My apologies for the wordiness and degree of detail about this issue, I come from Mazda Rotaries, where being on one's A Game when it comes to anything electrical is required from Day 1.Those that don't usually bail out in under a year.
Due to the inherent electrical issues when we got the car in summer 2019, the upper (System) battery was replaced immediately with a Deka Intimidator AGM one based on the same hypothesis you detailed. I had an identical Deka battery in my 20B RX-7, put it through hell, drained it 50+ times and it kept coming back for more abuse. So the battery is known good in this case. Bottom (starter) battery tested good as well, so no issues there.
Upper battery handles everything except starting and the EKAT catalytic converter heater control system. Then I had to go through the entire Canbus network because it was reporting absurd voltages. Water under the carpet had disintegrated the EKAT Control unit and backfed into the Canbus network because the EKAT power feeds were unfused (poor craftsmanship by BMW here). Dried everything out thoroughly (5 gallons of water came out), relocated the EKAT control unit to the trunk, re-routed the feeds to a 50A fuse on upper battery and built a new fuse box for under the seat, with proper stainless studs and hardware. I designed it to mimic the original setup to the letter, just with better materials. Also fixed the sunroof drains permanently with vinyl hose and clamps so it can't act up like this ever again no matter what.
Did a full suite of datalogging, unplugging one suspect module and then taking a full PA Soft log. Plug back in, move to the next one and repeat for everything on the entire network. Everything pointed to the EML. Got a used one from the UK (V12 only part, not cheap), swapped it in and took another log. Still showing EGS signal line disturbed. During the Full Suite, with the EGS Control Unit unplugged, it was STILL reporting EGS Signal Line Disturbed. Repeated the test with the new EML in, same result with EGS Signal Line Disturbed.
      What do you think?

ps bmw don't need a code reader to read there codes even lol

    Cool video,
I’m having problems where when it shifts to 4th, it will jump and jerk back to 3rd a few times and will go to safe mode and just stay in 3rd. Would this be the mechatronices/solenoid issues or the transmission synchronizer?

    • @RobertDotterer
      @RobertDotterer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I honestly would not know without doing some testing. You may be able to see with a scan tool what gear it is commanding and what gear it is in.
