I honestly think after watching seed and destiny consecutively over the winter that in a manga-esque perspective, if we treat *Athrun* as the main character instead of Kira, things make a lot more sense Destiny was much more focused around Athrun witnessing both sides of ZAFT and Terminal and rekindling his true meaning of justice through his interactions with shinn&gang, Durandal, kira&friends, and cagalli. He saw his own friends hurt his comrades (take heine for example) and he really went through somewhat of an arc questioning his own beloved friends about their rationale and then later choosing between them and the scheming Durandal. In the end, sinking the formidable Destiny Gundam, Durandal’s pawn, only consolidated Athrun’s understanding of true justice in the end as truly infinite.

It's fair that Athrun won - the Infinite Justice might not have the same capabilities in terms of mobility due to it lacking Voiture Lumiere and Mirage Colloid - Athrun is most likely the most powerful pilot in all of CE - Shura in GSF states this - and compounded with the fact that he is a soldier trained to use Mobile Suits and has more experience using them compared to Shinn, already being the veteran of one war.
To be fair the point of Shinn losing against Athrun was that Athrun was able to choose His own justice in comparison to shinn, who Is with Durandal because he's scared of losing another Loved one and not because he thinks the Destiny plan Is a good thing (this Is from seed Destiny's special booklet 4)

Shinn was popular on his own right, but not as popular as Athrun or especially Kira, who ruled the NewType and Gundam Ace Character Polls at the time.
Randy is Cena's Athrun based on timeline shenanigans (pretty much started the same time in OVW) and yaoiness (Randy onced fired a threatening line but sounded so gay even he realized it after he said it).
I also have thought that the results could have been determined by the fans/community due to the sudden protagonist switch and Shinn suddenly become weaker, but I never realised it was true.

Morosawa had cancerous brain tumors while suffering from her disease she became concerned about possibility of Fukada having an affair with Cagali voice actress hence why the story shits on Cagali. At one point Shinns voice actor stood up for her so that's why he is shafted at midway point.
I watched a video of What If Kira dies after Shinn stabbed Freedom. It honestly a pretty good What If video like after Shinn kills Athrun in the Gouf, Shinn realizes his mistakes and how one sided is his Justice is. Shinn piloted the Infinite Justice while Lunamaria pilots the Strike Freedom. Its honestly a pretty good video and i recommend everyone to watch it But hey atleast Gundam SEED Freedom did Shinn alot of justice to the point everyone in Japan almost forgot about Kira and Mighty Strike Freedom (according to the popularity poll)
To be fair to Shinn, he wasn’t quite in the right state of mind during his final duel with Athrun. Also, I think that the Athrun-Shinn relationship is still strained (though not to hostile levels at the end of Destiny) during the events of Freedom.
I like athrun, so I like athrun beating shinn badly. Though admitedly the edge manga does give shinn some highlights by taking an arm from athrun. but he used it as a distraction to go to requiem. then steals destiny's sword and just throws it down requiem before beating shinn with the kick.
If it was Tomino, he would have sexual scenes and children running around. SEED was revolutionary for its NTR popularization. I am curious if Tomino isn’t hammered by Japan’s censorship, then would he go to put sex scenes?
after losing to Athrun's Infinite Justice Shin pilot the Immortal Justice in the seed freedom movie 😅 then it got demolished by the enemy mobile suits in the first half of the movie 😂

Let’s not forget that Athrun never lost a fight in SEED Mode, though the first time, the Strike vs. Aegis duel ended in a draw.
