Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems is a platform game featuring Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Wolverine. In it, you must collect Infinity Gems (Also known as Soul Gems), which possess special powers, before they fall into the wrong hands. Luckily, you can equip the ones you have to help you find the ones you don't. This game should not be confused with an arcade fighting game with a similar name ( en.wikipedia.o...) ).
The player, Dooty ( tasvideos.org/... ), primarily uses Iron Man to boost through the game in less than 19 minutes. He does this with careful planning, clever boss strategies, and a whole lot of gems. Never once in this run does he take damage. This unlocked a memory I never knew I had.
So weird seeing this being beaten effortlessly considering 8 yr old me had "fond" memories of constantly dying yo the water level.
Also, its really cool to see some of these older designs for Marvel characters before the MCU took over, like Nebula's design at 17:45

Something I love about the way Doctor Doom shows up and Iron Man just starts silently beating his ass

I just realized that the artwork on the character select screen for Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America all seem to be their models from Capcom's fighting arcade games. Hulk's looks to be based on an actual comic artwork, but I'm not sure where Wolverine's comes from.

The arcade game came out a year before this. This was basically a corner-cutting port for those who wanted the Marvel experience at home.
Most of the sprites are pretty close to the arcade game. Blackheart in particular looks ripped straight from the arcade

Funny timing with the new prototype release of this
iornman was the best character in this game. He was easy mode. His flight move made fighting bosses and enemies pretty easy and it felt good to use. Only thing i didnt like about the game was how the supers worked. I came across it by complete accident. didnt know that there were even gem supers in the game where you had to do a ultimate combo input. it does a lot of damage to bosses.
I found out about supers in my 7th playthrough on accident💀

Yeah thats kinda inspired by the comic storyline of the same name. Magus is an alternate universe/evil counterpart to Adam Warlock, and he uses fake evil versions of heroes to sow discord amongst them and help obtain the Infinity Gems for himself.

Did this come out after Mutant Apocalypse? The music and sound effects are a downgrade, especially for Wolverine's claws.
Capcom did the same thing with Megaman X2 compared to Megaman X. X2 had good music but was nowhere near as complex and rich in detail as the first game. It's like they put the B-Team in charge of the sequels
What? In megaman x2 they even used a new snes "3d" tecnology to improve the graphics, x2 just has more dark colors on the backgrounds, but is better in all technical aspects
@@mikealfonsin I was referring to the soundtrack not the graphics. The first game had much more complex and detailed music.
Even the Password Screen in the first game was a full song, in X2 it's literally just a 3-second loop. They clearly did not put in as much effort in the 2nd game.
So I looked it up and I was right, this Marvel game came out 2-years after Mutant Apocalypse. It's basically a sequel game with different characters.
Just listen to the boss theme in both games, significant downgrade compared to the intensity and passion of Mutant Apocalypse.
I got so filtered on X it was mad difficult...

I like how the game implies that Iron Man only has a limited air supply...as if his sealed power armor doesn't contain a full life support system

This was what SNES owners were playing while they were day dreaming about playing Marvel Superheroes on the Saturn/PS1. I thought if they pulled off Alpha 2 then just maybe, but this was not a similar effort. The game was really not that great.

Fun fact. This game is included in the MVC2 cabinet from Arcade1UP. The whole cabinet is great, and I highly recommend it.
