Great stuff big fella. I think that there would be many blokes out there including me who would love to see a series of videos of you completely rebuildIng ( going over every process along the way and explaining what you are doing and why it has to be done etc) NA and Gas Barra engines from start to finish and then starting them them for the first time and getting them tuned up for your needs. Cheers 🍻 🍻.
Another awesome Barra video mate. Your work is a vital resource for anyone trying to get the best BFYB from a Barra. Once again, you've got some great music as well. What was the track when you pulled the cam/valve covers off? EDIT: Subscribed and clicked the bell. 👍
got a sub from me mate been following barra stuff since i was a teen when they first came out nice to see all the forum rumors and reading finally in a video with minimal bs
Hi Thank- you for your great video Kiwis here we bought a 2016 Ford Falcon FG Ute XR6 Eco- lpi re- paired Aussie stat write off- repaired and imported into Nz We have owned it for 7 years and its been awesome. Now selling however coming up with some Questions as it has a green rocker cover we do have the 8R29 numbers stamped on the side of the head and all the correct vin numbers on plates and the features you point out for the eco- lpi without pulling the engine apart .We cant locate engine number location , could you point us in the right direction
Thanks for this video - I have always wanted a LPI fg - only ever had fg mk1 n terri mk2 sy. Would love one in the terri ! Wonder about the in-tank pump on LPI for durability due to cryo fuel? and, how hard to get replacements ? Love yer channel bud ! Just one point - LPI is port fuel injection - Direct Injection has a second entry to chamber near spark plug - hence injection is possible AFTER inlet valve closes ! Cheers 😎👍
I had read a few reviews of the LPI motor claiming they were direct injection but never saw a LPI head on the bench until your vid ! So, many thanks for clearing it up for both of us🙏 I learnt about D.I. from diesels i have that use it - old school Land Rover Discovery 300 tdi turbo diesels. Keep up the good work Brother!
Got 366k on my LPi and still have the original pump. Got the tank re-certified at 10 years, and enquired about changing the pump at the same time, and he said he’s never had to do an LPi pump. In my research you can’t get them new from anywhere in Oz, but there’s very similar pumps available brand new from Korean and some European models that had an LPi system. I do my oil every 10k as much of my driving is freeway. Goes in the colour of olive oil, comes out the colour of honey.
Ive got an lpg ba falcon im super currious if theres anyway to convent it to run the lpi setup? Any chance you could run the lpi injectors in a petrol alloy manifold. Or swap over the whole manifold to run it. Also unrelated but i hate the loose coilpack design on my barra can you swap over just the rocker cover from new barras to old barras?
Ace video mate. Pity that LPI motor had crash damage. It looked mint inside. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my Barra as the last oil change showed metal in the oil and it's only 98900 kays old. Thing is there is no noise and it runs great. I suspect I have cam issues myself. I'm thinking of getting a fresh engine built and swap it in , but don't know who is a good engine builder for a daily driver in my area. Sth East subs in Melbourne. I'll be watching out for the next video and see what I can learn. Cheers !!
The last service had been done at the local mechanic shop in the main street here . They used a Cooper filter and 5w-30 oil not sure what brand they used. I have replaced it with Castrol GTX ultraclean 10w-30 and a Sakura filter. Will see how this goes for about 5k and check after that. Thanks for the reply 😁👍@@EverythingFuzzY
Bit of a stitch up with the LPI motor! Imagine if someone bought it to fit in a car straight away. Would have been chasing crank angle codes for days or potentially not ran at all. Dishonest people suck!
Hi there just wondering in regards to building a Barra for boost, if I purchase any green top should it have the good rods? Or do I simply buy a na motor and build it up with h beams and new pistons, I am wanting 380 rwkw thanks
Awsome video bloke. Seems like u got kinda scammed on both motors. I agree that the head on the green top is not the original. I put a brought a a fg gas motor for my fg mk2 and pulled it down to put my cams springs etc out of my old motor. To my surprise the gas head had iconel exhaust valves in it but the actual head was the sane. Maybe i was just lucky or previous owner changed them but they looked stock to me🤷♂️ any how Awsome content 👍👌🤙
Thanks for watching! Hopefully i can get them back to a good and reliable condition. I have heard story's of people pulling gas motors apart and finding Turbo heads, very interesting!
All you need is a flash tune from Max Performance in Dandenong Victoria to unlock 22rkw, no other mods?? Ford deliberately de tuned the lpi so not to upset the petrol xr6. One engineer stated that they seen 240kw easy?
I work for a former supplier to Ford & FPV, and was part of the development of numerous Falcon, Territory & Ranger stuff. Thanks to friendships forged with the R&D engineers, I had inside knowledge on the ZF and more power & torque on the LPi. That’s the reason why I held out over 9 months and got a new LPi in Sept 2011 (many people will tell you LPi is only on Mk2 FGs, but very late Mk1 is when it came out). The stock of E-gas FGs ran out in Oct 2010, but the LPi launch was delayed. One of the FPV engineers did a lot of gearbox calibration work, and he told me about the 240kw rating, but it was too much for the Ute, and with so much torque at low rpm, it launched way harder than the turbo, and would be problematic. So they did 2 things - dropped the aggressiveness in the ignition timing (reducing power) and they softened the FBW throttle response. Apparently the first 50% or so of pedal movement only opens it 10-15%, and it ramps up after that. The 2nd reason they cited for the derating back to 198kw was durability. My car came factory fitted with the M86 and V8/turbo axles. When I questioned this, I was told it was another durability concern with the LPi. Not sure how long this “upgrade” stayed for, but several colleagues also bought LPi FGs in 2011 & 2012 after witnessing how great mine is, and they all came with the M86 too. I’ve had no issues with the gas system at all. It did have 4 heads fitted under warranty before 50,000km though… so make sure any LPi you get has the later head on it, as the early heads with the smaller bolts allow the head to lift. The part number on the head changed to denote the update.
Ive got an ecolpi and wanting to mod it to go a bit harder. But i cant find any fuel injectors to be able to support it. I was thinking of getting a custom dual fuel rail if thats possible
You don't need different injectors mate! Those factory injectors flow enough for a 351 cleveland to make 550hp? All you need is a flash tune from Max Performance in Dandenong Victoria to unlock 22rkw, no other mods? Ford deliberately de tuned the lpi so not to upset the petrol xr6. Thanks for watching! I am due for a new rebuild video but check out my video 'Reassembling A Barra Engine In 12 Minutes!' in the meantime!
Very interesting Barra engine we don't have those in the States, I sure would love to put one in my 63 Falcon.

Thanks for the kind words! That song was 'In Silence" by Insygnia. Thanks for the support!
I have a friend that's looking for a set of eco lpi pistons if you're willing to just sell them?

First Great work dude!
Thanks for watching!
Would the LPI engine fit into a BF which has a EGAS engine in it now?
Hi

Thanks for the video. I got a 2013 G6E with the EcoLPI Barra, this is good information. 👍
Hey Fuzzy, great video mate.
Feel like a cool project? How about putting that LPI motor into a 80 series LandCruiser?😅
Wish i could but i barely have the time to work on my own projects! haha. Thanks for the support mate!
Another top video on the barras :)
Thanks for the support! Glad you liked it.

I stand corrected, thanks mate! We just bought a territory for our family car. Very nice wagons. Thanks for watching!

I believe all the high kilometer taxis on 500k- 600k kms have only done one in tank pump over that time, so very reliable.
Got 366k on my LPi and still have the original pump. Got the tank re-certified at 10 years, and enquired about changing the pump at the same time, and he said he’s never had to do an LPi pump. @@commodorenut Thanx mate! Interesting 🙏👍
Me and my mate just swapped a ecoLPI with unknown kms from upullit into his BA and it looked exactly the same. Clean as. Just a benifit of gas

Can u put the ecolpi plastic manifold on the older.motor?
Great video mate. Answered all my questions.😊
Great video with a lot of useful information.
Cheers bud👍

Every engine will produce some metal shavings. It physically has to. More likely an issue with your oil filter.
Thanks for watching! This happens sometimes. What oil and filter are you using?

Thanks for the support, Mikey! They sound even better live 😝

that EcoLPI engine is pretty sweet. 194kw with the cheapness of gas is a good deal.
Super tidy! Pretty stout for an NA 6 cylinder. Thanks for watching!

Would be interesting to convert the gas engine to E85 or use its pistons for a high comp NA build.
