Excellent in depth review. Maybe the only bit missing is the length of the power cable, always useful to know. From my experiences with other cameras being able to zone an area is extremely useful, glad to see it's available with this model.

Very useful review thanks. Agree power cable length info would be useful to add. Question, an Issue I've often had with existing Tapo cameras is, compared with even other tp link brands such as Kasa, there are often times when the access to cameras is slow/ long wait time, either in trying to access the camera or the memory, through the app. It comes back with time but it's very annoying and inconvenient whilst trying to monitor. It's not all the time, but frequent enough to notice, and more frequent than our other camera systems, including Kasa. Assume that's still a problem with this camera from Tapo? Others also have this issue?

this video is very helpful very informative thank you but i have one question is all data are recorded in this memory card and how can i delete some records
My only gripe with this is with the "live view", it only let's you view for only 2-5mins then you need to reconnect again to monitor what is happening on the area you placed your camera.
Is there any solution to this?

Thanks for the detailed review, the issue is if by any reason the camera is disconnected from wifi you need to come back home to connect it again it won’t connect automatically back to the wifi …..

Good information - my 2 observations are : 1. If you on holidays for extended periods , can you delete past days/hours ect of data so the card doesn't fill up ? 2. The 'theft mode alarm seems a bit odd in that the recording is held on the device, so all the intruder needs to do is either unplug and take the camera or unload the SD card. What do you think ?
I read somewhere that if it runs out of space it deletes old footage and records new footage. Which is good and bad. And your 2nd observations is what I was thinking too lol. You'd have to kind of hope that person breaking in doesn't know about the tp link sd slot
@@Semaj97 the SD recording thing concerns me too. Does it also record through the WiFi to TP Link to the app on my phone? Maybe on TP Link cloud?
Otherwise do we need to hide the camera so the thief doesn't see it and steal the SD card or the whole thing?

Depends on the purpose I guess . Just like my dashcam, I use in loopmode. If nothing happened I dont need the footage anymore

That's my concern too
Just got the camera last week and can confirm you can either share the link for shared access or provide your login info. Difference is the link will have limited access (I'm guessing general controls) while allowing other devices to use your login info will have multiple devices having access to the controls.

my tapo app freezes every 6pm everyday consistently. i have to swipe monitor to bring it back to live view. although it has alert sound when motion is detected. Could it be the window hours when some people trying to invade phones. COuld it be true of the rumor that chinese app creators put a spyware to sneak in your phone otherwise what could be the reason why it freezes

Hi, yes, technically someone could just take it. But essentially the motion detector alerts you when someone enters the room and you can see the feed live. If you're lucky to catch them in time you could record your own screen to get a quick remote back up. But no, sadly, there is no way to store footage remotely.
So it looks like we need to hide the camera or disguise it somehow maybe behind some flowers or material. I saw one that was in a flower pot with a fake flower around it.
Can it connect on 5g internet?
Great review. We have installed this camera at home and can only seem to access it when in the house via wifi. When not at home the app won't connect and says camera is offline. Can you please help?

When you get a motion notification, do you need to manually enable recording? Whatever is recorded, can I access this via my app and save to my phone? Is there any cloud option? Reason I ask is if I'm not able to respond to the motion event, will it fail to record and save the data so I can access it later via the app?

In the v380 app of other cam model, only possible to record without audio on the phone. I didnt use cloud service.
So I just used the free playback on phone via sdcard instead of cloud, and then recorded with screenrecorder if needed some footage with audio

Good review can you use it inside to look through your window rather then having one outside or will the glass window obscure video quality
It should work fine looking through a window. Location will effect it to an extent if the window gets a lot of direct light or a lot of animal activity etc but it should be fine.

No as it saves the video footage to an internal SD card that you copy the files over to your computer from.
all good but what happens if the thief steals the camera? the data of the person who stole it would be lost along with it, there is no way to have a dvr like hikvision in a security room so the data is safe

The camera needs to connect to your Wi-Fi in order for you to view the camera using the app on your phone.
If you connect the camera to your Wi-Fi then you open the app on your phone and the app on your phone and the camera can communicate to each other. Then you can see the video or the photos.
