Yep same. Started with Google Nest, but the C325 colour pro night vision is just so much better! Just wish they had the same night vision in a PT form factor.
Really well done and well recorded review. Thank you. I have two questions; 1. Can the camera be set to record only when motion is detected with a short duration? Or is it recording full-time without the ability to defeat that? 2. If there is a power outage and/or a wifi outage, does the camera reconnect with the wifi on it's own once power restored? That's the behavior that I get with some Ctronics cameras I have. Thanks
Just installed one of these last week, so still playing with settings etc. But so far my biggest con with this camera is around the detection settings.. They are pretty much useless if you want to use the pano or the patrol settings, to me you need to be able to set the detection zones and line crossing points etc at each location for the patrol. Also is there a way to have it record on detection anywhere in view but only send notifications if something enters a detection zone ?
I've just installed this exact camera on my house and I'm really impressed by it. Definitely one of the best models in this price range. If you're unsure about buying this. Don't be... You will not regret it.
Great video. Is there a chance to bring this Tapo Camera into HomeKit through Homebridge or Scrypted? (That would eliminate at least on con.) I like the camera but I want to view all camera feeds in just one app or dashboard. Looking forward to more content .
Thank you! I haven’t personally tried it with this specific camera, but I do know under the advanced settings section of the camera (on the app), you can set up a “camera account”. On other TP Link cameras I’ve tried, if you set that up, it allows you to use their cameras with third party apps with RTSP. Here is a TP Link article on the subject: www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2680/
I know this is somewhat apples and oranges but did you find this more reliable than the C125 you reviewed a couple weeks ago? I just returned 2 of those yesterday because they kept dropping offline/no response. These were going in baby/toddler rooms and no way they were getting spouse approval with poor connectivity. I have access points in the rooms so it makes no sense. And yeah I agree bummer on no HomeKit support for this one. Great video man, thanks for what you do.
Very strange. I’m still using the C125 & I’ve had zero issues. I’ve found it to be a great camera. I also have several customers who have the C125 and they all love it. Did you troubleshoot with their tech support? If it’s happened with two of them (ruling out you have a bad camera), it has to be a network issue & those are usually solvable. The two cameras are comparable feature wise, the C520WS is just built more durable since it’s made for outdoors.
1 question that I hope you will answer: If you don't subscribe to cloud and "only" use a flash card, can you still get immediate notifications? Some have told me that Tapo will not do it without the cloud service. Thank you for responding, and thank you for your video.
You can get notifications without the cloud. But the cloud adds their “rich notifications”. The rich notifications include snapshots & immediate event review.
I have a new glitching Ezviz pan/tilt camera that glitches spinning around to follow around a corner. Company is useless in fixing the problem. Will this Tapo do that without issues. I am familiar with Tapo app as I love my inside "Dog camera" hoping for the same type of camera function ability.
Thanks for the detailed video. While using just sd card for storage(not cloud), can i access the clips via internet from anywhere in the world? Heard people state that i need to be in same wifi network as camera for viewing clips saved? And can i watch live feed on my mobile from anywhere in the world, over internet?
The Tapo C520WS camera does allow remote access for certain features, but there are limitations when using only an SD card for storage. Here's a detailed explanation: 1. Accessing Clips Saved on the SD Card: You can view recorded clips stored on the SD card remotely through the Tapo app, as long as the camera is connected to the internet. This means you do not need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. However, playback performance may depend on your internet speed at both the camera's location and your viewing device. Some users experience issues if the connection is unstable or slow. 2. Viewing the Live Feed: Yes, you can watch the live feed from anywhere in the world using the Tapo app, provided the camera is connected to the internet. You do not need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the camera for live view. 3. Potential Issues with Remote Playback: Some users report confusion because viewing clips from the SD card can sometimes take longer over the internet, and if the camera is offline or there are network issues, you won’t be able to access the footage until you are back on the same network. 4. Tapo Care Cloud Service: While the SD card offers local storage, Tapo Care provides additional features like cloud storage and faster remote access. If remote playback reliability is critical, the cloud service might be a more robust option. If you're planning to rely solely on an SD card, ensure your camera has a stable internet connection to access both the live feed and saved clips remotely.

Too bad that in landscape mode doesn't have the possibility of viewing the presets positions available only in portrait mode! Another lack of this TP-Link surveillance camera is that unlike other indoor Xiaomi camera, is that you can't shift the camera lens unit by gliding with a finger on the image shown on any touch screen device's display, but by only using its digital joy pad! There's still some other drawback: TP-Link camera can't combine both horizontal and vertical patrol in one go! And even so, the patrol movement can't be pre-set or automatized from it's application, it's software just lack this feature though I'm pretty sure that the camera as it's already mechanically and electronically designed could surely support these features! What about sound quality of camera on two way audio mode how long we listen the sound from speaker and how long camera mic listen our voice. Dude Plz Help !! I also want to buy this
As far as you POE question, that’s my bad. As a camera guy, I’m just used to thinking in terms of POE with those ethernet ports. It’s not though, that connector is for a direct internet connection, not POE.
Who knows the answer to my question? Can I use the tapo app with 2 or 3 of these cameras with local storage without subscription? I plan to use the local storage and connect them to a cheap 4g router with a limited dataplan so that I can access the camera's through the app, but they would not eat all my data (i am trying to keep the costs low)
2k is nice but thats only live or? Save to sd storage is reduced to 720 is it 2k in tapocare? So picuturequality on stored videos that I think are most interesting in a surveillance point of view is poor? Think it will be hard having good readings of licence plates with 720? Another thing to think of is that only the camera is ip66 not the poweradapter itself but it should of course have been too. To use the camera outside safely the poweradapter should have been ip66 too, but u actually have to buy and put it inside a ipxx proof box not to shortcut in heavy rain and moisture. I DO Like the line crossing feature but missing LPR licence plate recognition. Have u tested some LPR cameraes too?
Tapo gives you options. It can be 2K live or recorded. I wouldn’t do a review on a camera that only had a 720p option. It wouldn’t be worth my time in 2024. Nest is pretty much the only brand that makes a weatherproof power cord & it’s unfortunate they are the only one. License plates are never going to be guaranteed. I don’t care what the resolution is. Capturing License plates is all about angle & conditions. If all the above don’t line up it’s not happening. LPR cameras are a huge waste of money for a house. LPR cameras are designed for a controlled environment under controlled conditions. I have used several LPR cameras in a business setting. But you’ll never see me review one, because they don’t make sense on a house & my videos are geared for homeowners.
Not sure if my neighbors using his to spy on me and my family.. he has 3!! I swear he put a tag in my car it would follow me out of my driveway and down the road. He now has one over my back garden…can he still record my back yard even when it’s in privacy mode?
In comparison to the c325wb cameras they are naff, the night color vision is dim, not very bright, the c325wb wb is much brighter more colour and much clearer, I know this as I have both
Its not perfect if I have to power it with DC power. If it was battery powered, that would be perfect. I dont have a plug where I want to put it. So its useless.

do I need to go full 512gb or a 128gb sd card will do?
Any of those will do.
how do you access your Tapo away from Home
With the Tapo App
What about sound quality of camera on two way audio mode how long we listen the sound from speaker and how long camera mic listen our voice. Dude Plz Help !! I also want to buy this
The sound quality is about average. You’re never going to find a really good speaker on these WiFi cameras. It just doesn’t exist.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thanks buddy !!
You’re welcome!
This doesnt seem as good as the C325W in low light, if the C325W had a PTZ model id buy it.
which one is best tapo c200 vs xiaomi 360 vs imou vs ezviz
Tapo C200
So you believe that this Tapo camera is now better than the Eufy 340? And how does POE work since Tapo doesn't have a base station?
I give this camera the edge because of the price difference. Quite a bit less expensive than the 340.
As far as you POE question, that’s my bad. As a camera guy, I’m just used to thinking in terms of POE with those ethernet ports. It’s not though, that connector is for a direct internet connection, not POE.
Hi, this cam is not wifi 5G?
I bought one and the 5G networks don't appear, I need a ethernet c!cable :(
Are you talking about 5Ghz or 5G (cellular)?
Only 2x2 Wifi 4.
I love this camera, EXCEPT, it is not HomeKit compatible. Why ignore such an important feature?
Tapo is getting more and more HomeKit friendly. More coming in 2024…but I’m really not sure why they left it off of this one.
I bought this camera, but one thing why this camera if zooming not clearly, even car number plate can't see clearly
Yes..agree to apple homekit..come on tapo..your can do it
With regards with apple home, I think manufactures need to pay apple for the licence... Which inturn drives up the price of the unit...
2 or 3 of these cameras will not be effective on a 4g router with limited data plan.
@@GeorgeLangabeer But can I access the cameras remotely while not being subscribed to the tapocare? And use the local sd storage?
@PetervanRossum-y4l yes
@@GeorgeLangabeer Thank you!!
can it still record when i exit the app?
Yes it can.
Hi sir i buy this camera i put sandisk altra 256gb this memory not saport the camera why i don't know give me solution please sir
Hard to say. I’d call Tapo’s tech support. They can troubleshoot easier than I can.
When you read all the negative reviews on this camera on amazon you become apprehensive on purchasing the camera. Is it the user or the camera?
Not sure which camera you’re looking at on Amazon, but this camera has 4.4 stars (out of 5) on Amazon (reviews). So?????
Not sure if my neighbors using his to spy on me and my family.. he has 3!! I swear he put a tag in my car it would follow me out of my driveway and down the road. He now has one over my back garden…can he still record my back yard even when it’s in privacy mode?
In comparison to the c325wb cameras they are naff, the night color vision is dim, not very bright, the c325wb wb is much brighter more colour and much clearer, I know this as I have both
Dropcam was the best ever and then Google/Nest ruined it.
Dropcam was great for its time.
Need Apple Home
Agreed!
Nice wifi..... Zzz. Now where's the ethernet connecting part ?
Not POE unfortunately.
Its not perfect if I have to power it with DC power. If it was battery powered, that would be perfect. I dont have a plug where I want to put it. So its useless.
Run an extension cord.
WHERE IS YOUR WIFI SETUP. CANT GET MINE TO CONNECT
