- As we wait on the horizon of the incoming DRAGONBALL Sparking! ZERO, I figured it was past time to look at the final Dragon Ball game released on Sony's masterpiece console, the PS2. Considered by many to be the true Budokai 4, Infinite World is most known for its mini-games and intense AI difficulty, but we're here to find out if its actually good.

You called this game Budokai 4, I prefer to call it Budokai 3: Director's Cut.
Perfect, If we get a burst limit 2, he will be the B4
I Definitely Feel Like Burst Limit Would Be Budokai 4 And Infinite Would Was Like Budokai 3 Dub Edition Remix 😂😂 IYKYK
Budokai 3 "Greatest Hits" was the Director's Cut and Budokai HD (the ported Budokai 3 within) was the Ultimate Cut, but for me Infinite World earned it's own place as "Budokai 4".
Infinite Budogay
Shin Budokai 3 might be more accurate
The reason Cell sounds like that is because all his forms share the same voice in Japanese. And the way the game is built, the other forms aren't other character slots, they're transformations, meaning they share the same voicelines across each other. It'd be impossible for them to implement without extra coding
Explain GT Goku then
@@Blujulthey have different character folders. They're not transformations of each other
You probably just explained why they have so many characters slots for sparking
@@grim1114 nah that's just horrible UI design. I dont think they have the same limitations they had 20 years ago
@@gomichan64 Yup and also BT3 has different transformations for a character in the same slot, this meaning different voicelines. Hope they fix that ass UI from Sparking soon
Kid Buu was a menace in all these PS2 DBZ games, but in this game he was absolutely fucking cracked. The amount of times I had to restart because he’d mash his ultimate frame one 💀
😂 it was so fast... Oh God I remember that. He started with full bars too
Sadly the voice issue falls on all of the forms being built into 1 character model as opposed to separate 1s. This is why later titles would give characters such as Goku and Vegeta multiple slots/varients. Because each respective era of those characters possess different animations and context sensative dialogue. Another thing I wanna point out is that despite being insanely popular Budokai 3 had its fair share of detractors. Which were fighting game purists. B3 had A LOT of rock paper sissor mechanics that were not only disruptive. But also turned a fair fight into an unfair game of chance. Which is a big no no in the fighting game community. So to make it more of a fair fighter Dimps took things like the Dragon Rush system out.
There's no doubt about that. But I was sad they removed the rock paper scissors ability in this game.
I just wish they kept the beam clashes
And later on Ultimate Tenkaichi decided the entire combat system should be Rock Paper Scissors
@@richborn6700and it was mediocre
I assume someone's told you already, but Cell's inconsistant voice lines are derived from the way the games are programmed to call for voices.
Cell has a single voice actor for every form in Japan, and consequently, the same voice each transformation.
He does not in the Dub.
As a result, many games, especially the early ones, would only record a single hurt sound for cell, a single taunt, or a handful of lines that would apply across all 3 transformations to save on dev time.
Yes, but in the example he showed, it was imperfect cell speaking a line using perfect cell's voice--a line which made no sense for perfect cell to say. Seems like an unforced error on the part of the localizers rather than anything programming related.
Probably the same thing for Goku is going on here. Since in Japanese it's also the same voice actor whether he's a kid or not.
@@disciplinedisorder3060 He... asked why Cell always had the issue, not just specifically to this game.... Like... I'm specifically answering the question at 3:02.
But, you know, go off I guess.
It’s just so weird that they would even have the Perfect Cell voice record and Imperfect Cell line *at all*. Why would the Perfect Cell voice have a line about still needing to find 17 and 18?
Cell has a single voice actor for every form in English too, Dameon Clarke just did a different voice for each form
I remember literally crying as a child trying to beat 100% Frieza. To this day, nothing in life has ever felt so cathartic.
Bro I'm TELLING you
Kid buu final fight for me... 😂 Beat me like no end
Me but with Kid Buu
this is better than budokai 3. no dragon rush, makes it that.
This is actually a fair take.
No Gimmicky Stick spinning beam struggles and hypermode fighting All that stick wiggling and Rock Paper Scissors dragon rush, is just very repetitive and gimmicky.
@@josephe9487 nah gotta have the beam struggle
@@joshliggins-lk8gj Nah a bunch of times in one game, every game, every day You play with somebody gets really old and it's just super repetitive man.
The fighting in the show was not all about beam struggles all the time like in DBZ B3. Infinite world feels more like the show. I'd rather have no beam struggles than have too many. There is so much more to dragon ball z, then just beam struggles. There is a reason why they weren't spamming being struggles constantly in the show like ppl do in dbz b3 cuz It would hav made them less iconic, so when you do it in the game constantly, As most people do then it loses its flavor rather quickly.
😢 I love dragon rush
Y'know, while I do understand why so many people consider DBZ Infinite World the Budokai 4 of the series (so much so that we actually chose it over B3 as base for our "Budokai 4 Project"), I really can't understand why you feel like B3 and IW play the same, or even the difficulties are all the same.
Really, I don't wanna sound mean 'cause I always appreciate when anyone brings some attention and love to this series, but to me it looks like *you* played them both the exact same way: no cancels, no stuns, no juggles, no Air Resets, no passive teleports nor teleport-baiting/countering.
Judging by your own footage, your game plan is streamlined to any "P" or "K" string into knock-away or Super Move. Of course all the games feel the same to you. And considering how the AI in IW clearly shows some rudimentary combos, you must have gone out of your way to not lab 'em out. Like, if I see IW Goku doing "→pkK kkkK ppkkk→e", I wanna do that too, not just stand there and wonder "why the game is SO HARD!?"
I believe Devs thought that showing cancels & combos with their AIs would've prompted other players to learn more about them, instead they just got frustrated 'cause they couldn't just mash their way through with random buttons anymore. Poor kids.
Me when I refuse to learn how to play a game (the game is too hard)
Excellent point! I too think that this is exactly what it is, well said.
Excellent comment. The whole video felt wrong, and I think it is because of how he talks about the mechanics without going in depth as to how they work and how you could use them to overcome your enemies.
Yeah he's playing how 90 percent of the people playing this game play it. Only a small amount ever use all the mechanics of these games. The normal player will mash punch kick combos and spam the ultimates.
This comment is rather pretentious and shows your one of the 1% he talked about
This is definitely the best of the budokai series because after playing this it's hard to go back to B3. Faster pace gameplay, less disruptions and more characters. I main Pikkon in this game to own the AI, otherwise my first fight with kid buu took me hours and was very rewarding after I beat him.
This was Budokai 3.5
Its no secret that Budokai 3 was rushed and alot of content was cut. So this game just added the cut content plus expanded on a few things you can tell B3 was trying to do. Budokai 3 had a very short dev time.
It seemed like the devs wanted to make their best effort and their dream DBZ game with this attemp tbut once again werent given much support. So they got the chance to add the things they originally wanted for B3, but not enough support to polish it and finish it 100%, and maybe even release it on more consoles/next gen.
This is a forgotten gem, and a DBZ game very few got to play. But its actually one of the best DBZ games still. I put it above B3 with puts it in my top 5 best DBZ games above B3.
I Agree.
It's definitely a very interesting game! I do think it needed more dev time though. It could have been one of the greats!
I disagree. budokai 3 was way better!
DBZ IW is goated! Alot of great characters, the fighting system is way more advance each character's style is unnique, there is no repetitive burst zone fighting, beam struggle and dragon rush gimmicks. DBZ IW Is a skillfull Fighing fun DBZ game for the hardcore DBZ fans who want a true challenge, real enough for a great sayian warrior.
This explains why there were unused voice data for many characters! And those were unloackables too! Was hoping to play Anroid 18 in Dragon Universe for example
Bro’s love for Android 19 is so fucking funny everytime
"Oh yes, Dr. Gero studied you very thoroughly."
I love that dude. My god, his dub voice was awesome. No joke, he was my main in the first game. He was like a big adorable baby. That's just how I see him in my head bro. I was sad when he died. I was hoping he was going to get away. I screamed like a little girl when Vegeta's big band hit that dude. My friend just turned & looked at me questionably after he saw that (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
There's something about that dude man 😅 I didn't care for 16.
@@jeremyhall2727what? for real?!😂 never imagined someone liking 19 like that..
Tho if im being honest with his voice i kinda felt bad he got destroyed by Vegeta like that😅 but without his voice he kinda scary looking to
@@RockyD12 totally dude 😅 he also reminds me of Tien's little friend too. That clown one
There were quite a few downgrade from Budokai 3. No tournament sucks. Don't care for the mini games either. And I really don't like the way the story was handled, I liked how Budokai 3 had a narrative, even when finding Broly, Omega Shenron, etc.
The biggest change is no dragon rush, and that's worth every other downgrade in my opinion. Dragon rush on anything above hard in Budokai 3 was painful
I actually found Dragon Rush easier to dodge than the AI spamming aura burning and running up my fatigue meter lmao
@@evprince Yeah, but that's all the fights become at Z difficulty, avoiding dragon rush the entire fight lol. AI will spam their mode, rush a recharge, know exactly when to throw a ki blast out, recharge in the middle. It's exhausting.
Agreed so much. While the things they removed, like no beam clashes was a downgrade they didn't need to do, the dragonrush in B3 was the worst feature.. at least until Burst Limit kind of made it better.
😢 I'm the only person in the comments to like dragon rush 😂
@@evprincehey, I'm Aura burst.. you get armor right? I haven't played this game since 2009 or 2010
my first introduction to dbz
made so many good memories.
thanks for touching up on this gem
3:05 Cells lines are inconsistent in other games because the Japanese voice actor for Cell changes nothing between forms. When the games are localized, they don't replace the lines with each transformation..
Yeah I was shocked when I watched the sub version. I was expecting his voice to be different for each form. In the dub, I loved his 1st form voice the most
I also thought cell was hot in his 1st form 😑 don't ask bro. He had this bad boy vibe going on. Freezer's last form too 😍 it's getting questionable over here dude.
There is another difficulty beyond very hard: Z difficulty which needs to be purchased.. also the fatigue system affects how easily the opponent fights back against your ultimates (it will go slower when you have severely fatigued your opponent making getting max easier.) Also, infinite world competitive is insane. Yamcha is literally the best character in the game. Yamcha is so good because his normal combo strings give him super armor. Also, fighter's road has opponents that use different strategies basically. Mainly the items they use.
One of the best features of the minigames in this game is that after beating the game, you unlock the ability to play some of them using other characters, like you can play the Videl learning to fly mission as Mr. Satan, as one example, or chase Bubbles as Yamcha and Tien, it doesn't offer any actual difference but it's nice to have some variety.
I personally believe the theory that this was an "apology" game for players that didn't own a PS3 to play Burst Limit, especially because of the way this game is designed compared to Budokai 3. While this game is definitely heavily based on Budokai 3 in terms of visual style and characters/skills, the actual gameplay aspect is much more heavily based on the Shin Budokai games, being a much more combo based and technical game, including carrying over entire mechanics like Aura Guard and Aura Burst, or the real time Ultimate Moves like Teen Gohan's Super Kamehameha and Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon. This tends to be something most people tend to completely overlook in reviewing this game, probably because people didn't actually play those games due to being on the PSP, which is all the more reason to give people another PS2 game, since ignoring the Shin Budokai games there was a 4 year gap between mainline Budokai games. It attempts to be the best of both worlds, making a more technical fighting game out of the Budokai formula while staying true to the previous console entry as best as they were able to, as well as re-implementing beloved things from the first Budokai game like the cutscenes and minigames, but falls completely flat because the game just didn't have enough time to properly do everything they might have been wanting to. You can even see this in things like the inexplicable character cuts from Budokai 3 like Kid Goku, Supreme Kai, and Uub, I feel like Janemba and Pikkon are only even in this game because they were in the Shin Budokai games.
Fighter's Road is obviously intended to be this game's equivalent of 3's Dragon Arena, given they even went as far as recycling Commander Red and his artwork from that mode, but the complete lack of theming for this mode makes it a lot less special, even if they're basically the same mode in just being a very long series of fights against every character in the game. The fact that it's also the best way to make Zenie in the game after completing the story also makes it feel like a very poor substitute for the World Tournament mode from past games.
Also kudos to the respect for Zarbon, Dodoria, and 19, the worst part is that we know they were *considered* to be included in both Budokai 2 and 3, but as far as we know, they were never planned for inclusion in this game, which is a shame because they were clearly interested in bringing these 3 back for so long, but for some reason they were just bottom tier priority and just kept getting cut due to rushed development deadlines it seems
Bro... I remember playing this Game when i was 8 years old, and staying from 8 PM to 4 AM triying to beat kid buu, i was so happy (and tired) when i finally beat him.
To this day i still listen to the opening at least once a week.
Infinite World’s “new to Budokai” fight tracks are from the Shin Budokai series and Burst Limit.
Another great in-depth video. Please do the Shin Budokai games. There’s barely any videos on them and I’d love to watch your analysis on them.
I barely played with the 3 psp ones. I beat them once & move on 🤫 ohhhh I played the modded version of the psp DBZ tag one. It had DBS fighters in it. I wonder if this dude made a video about the hack & modded older DBZ games
EP back with another one. Always look forward to your stuff.
Hope you enjoy!
I definitely understand how you felt with this game. Me personally it’s my favorite out of the budokai games. Love no dragon rush and getting to run on snake way. Plus death beam game I found funny. Another reason I think I really like this game is because I didn’t really like burst limit as a kid and playing this afterwards definitely bumped it up in my book.
I've never played Burst Limit either, but these mini games were great.
@@evprince it’s ok. Still looks great but as a kid I remember the drama scenes breaking up the combat and not liking it as a kid though it was neat idea. Hopefully one day you’ll do a video on it.
😂 they talked too much in brist limit. Omg, it really slowed down the fights. Just give me the power up without everyone taking a pause to talk trash to each other. But I still wanted a part 2 of that game.
@@jeremyhall2727 right it’s been hard game to get through. I do few matches and then try to skip the drama pieces lol.
I prefer the stamina bar to... whatever B3 had
Having a constant bar that shows you exactly and specifically when you or your opponent will get stunned as well as it being obvious what increases it and by how much
B3 it just happened, never understood it
No color to yellow to red to.... eventually, back to yellow. It's not very helpful
And honestly? I'd rather get stunned 2-3 times a match (assuming I didn't pop a healing item) than get hit by 15 dragon rushes in one match
I never felt like the AI was much crazier, tho I've only played B2 consistently so that's probably part of it (as in of the Budokai games)
totally agree with you. dragon rush get annoying pretty quick
They need to remaster this game. I was so mad it never came out on PS3.
IGN gives this game a 3.5 because it's too similar to the prior title, yet they give every Ubislop game at least a 7.
They can't keep getting away with it
Because money talks 😂 lining up those Pockets baby
The reason Cell's voice is so inconsistent may be because of the original Japanese dub. In that, his voice remains the same through all of his three forms. The game was almost definitely coded with the Japanese in mind first, definitely a lack of polish due to a rushed development though for that not to be fixed. It's the same in some of the Tenkaich games but looks to have been fixed in Sparking Zero
I remember i had to go to my friends house to pass the kid boo fight cause it was too hard for him
Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World (Budokai 4) is a very good game, but the gameplay is extremely difficult. The story called, "Dragon Mission" and it goes from Dragon Ball Z Saga, GT Saga, and Dragon Ball Z movies. The game doesn't have the World Tournament mode, and they got rid of Dragon rush from Budokai 3. The mini games from story mode was kind of bit fun, but it was a complete lackluster. They've added new characters such as: Goku (GT), Vegeta (GT), Pan (GT), Baby Vegeta, Super #17, Syn Shenron, Pikkon, Janemba, and more. Also I don't know why they didn't give us Zarbon, Dodoria, and Android #19 in the game, they haven't been playable since the first Budokai game.
Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World was the very last DBZ videogame on the PlayStation 2 when it was released in December 2008. I didn't even see a commercial about the game, but I saw it on Target store and I bought it for $40. It was a good Dragon Ball Z game, and I still got it with me today.
Oh, you watched the video too
I didn't know it was coming out until I saw it at GameStop
I'm sure others will mention this better spoken than myself in the comments, but from my understanding:
The reason Cell and Goku have those weird voice bits is because in the Japanese they have the same voice for all the forms generally. So when they insert the English voices, it results in those inconsistencies. It's something like that.
Lol you need to chill on taking out your frustrations on the Great Saiyaman. His character didn't go through a renaissance, where people finally grew up and appreciated his humor of a character in DragonBall, just so you could trash on him. Seriously people really appreciate the Great Saiyaman saga and his character alot more nowadays. And I know you ain't dissing my boy Pikkon just cause you didn't get your pink blob in. Pikkon has one of the coolest movesets of most characters and that's a big reason why he's become such a fan favorite even though he was part of a small filler arc.
I never liked great sayianman 🤬 I always thought he looked Goofy. His justice kick or whatever was awesome. That spinning kick 🤷🏾♀️ I think it was called justice kick. I prefer his 2nd clothes over his first
I don’t remember the AI to be this hard to beat. You let them power up, avoid any hit flying around, once their energy levels go to zero you beat them (and they can’t teleport to avoid your attacks). When they’re exhausted you hit them with an ultimate. That’s all
The AI is definitely harder but only if they actually will use full strings and even cancel.
Budokai AI in earlier games would basically never cancel, would not do full combos and would consistently leave themselves at negative or punishable.
Even then they have some issues like some characters almost always Aura bust immediately so you just run away till they deplete their bar and then they can't teleport allowing for a big combo.
Generally the AI is wasteful with meter and meter is king as you always need at least 3 bars to avoid a wombo combo as damage gets high if you learn even a basic juggle
I only remembered kid buu being hard 🤷🏾♀️ everyone says it was hard. I'm going to replay it tomorrow
what's wild to me is that as this was being developed, not only were they working on Burst Limit for Xbox and PS3, they were likely actively developing both the arcade and console versions of Street Fighter IV *and* the last-gen versions of Sonic Unleashed on top of that. Dimps was pretty busy back then!
Your opinion I know but I hardly would say infinity world is the worst budokai game in fact is my absolute favorite being leagues above budokai 3
no way this dude said "infinite world is inferior to the older budokai games"
Complaining about Pikkon bein in a game over jobbers like Zarbon and Dodoria is hilarious too me lol
21:44 that's an awesome idea. Truth be told.. I don't remembered this mode at all.
Pretty good video. I can't believe you didn't mention aura burning and how broken it is. I would say this game was overall worse than budokai 3, and the increased AI was an improvement.
I should have, I think I just felt like the fatigue system was the problem, and that aura burning wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't for the fatigue system itself.
@@evprince Aura burning grants super armor and allows you to spam super and ultimate moves for no ki cost until the mode expires. Way more busted than anything else and ruined the whole game for me. The only way to counter it is to go into aura burning yourself. The fatigue system was also quite terrible, yes.
@@evprince All the characters in this game are capable of infinite combos btw. Android 18 has a particularly deadly one with deadly dance, as if timed right you can pretty much lock the opponent into the attack until they die. The AI loves to spam it as her. Surprisingly though, despite this, she's actually a lower tier character in competitive. Probably because in pvp fights this attack is pretty easy to see coming by itself.
It was broken, unbalanced, but unfinished.
Best no nonsense reviews on TH-cam by far
Dbz burst limit also had a fatigue meter, but difference was it filled up a lot slower and can even be drained at full power, whereas infinite worlds meter goes up to fast
I think the aura burning creates a balance issue when combined with the fatigue meter too.
Kid Buu was definitely the final boss of this games XD
The pink death 😅
I love Infinte World
The voice lines being off still makes me upset lol
I can see the solid fun I coulda had with this. But after sparking. This woulda just left a huge sour taste
Good video. I don't remember it being that hard to be honest, but I may be remembering it wrong. I mostly remember replaying the cutscenes like a million times because they were cool af.
It is only hard if you never learned how to budokai.
Infinite world AI is just the only Ai in the series before Shin that tries to play properly such as actually doing combos, using cancels for pressure and more.
If you ever learned to juggle or cancel the game is much better
I've been looking forward to your review of this game!
Hope I didn't disappoint!
I love Burst Limit to death and I wish it got an extra year of development time.
As the final Budokai-styled Dragon Ball game (outside of the movie tie-in) it's a shame the game was left in the state it was in. We got a really good game with a pretty good story mode but lots of aspects feel unfinished, such as certain cutscenes and the character choices. (I mean, they had models for Mecha Frieza, Chaozu, and SSJ2 Goku but they're only ever shown in the pre-rendered movies)
Burst Limit sucks. Last Budokai was Infinite World
Other than the beam blasts being taken away and maybe supreme Kai then yeah it’s the best
You called it Budokai 4, but really this is Shin Budokai 3, since this was developed with Shin Budokai 2 as the base with higher res assets from Budokai 3 overlayed.
Will you be doing a retrospective video on burst limit I love these documentary style videos keep up the great work
Long shot, but I'm really hoping you'll cover Shin Budokai: Another Road at some point! I know it's PSP instead of PS2, and has *some* of Infinite World's difficulty problems, but I think you'd like the concepts the game explores, both in the story itself (which is fun and inventive, if occasionally glossing over what should be huge moments way too quickly) and the strategic aspect (city protection, Senzu distribution, jumping in to help your allies after letting them whittle the enemy down, etc).
For me fighting system presented in another road is it best version across budokai series. Also almost every form of given character had unique combinations of supers. Or ultimate future gohan.
Nostalgic Vibes... In my opinion DBZ Infinite World is a step up in the right direction from DBZ Budokai 3 in fighting mechanics apart of the removal of beam struggle. But other than that Infinite World is essentially better than Budokai 3 because we get a few more characters in the overall roster and the gameplay it's more versatile and fast-paced, the only complain about Infinite World it's the removal of the Tournament Mode. 🤷🏻♂️✌️
If you liked it then you liked it! I think I personally felt the fatigue system created an imbalance that threw off the combat for me.
Dragon rush felt easier to dodge to me than the AI spamming aura burning and knocking my fatigue meter up.
Best DBZ fighter I’ve played
It Is Def In My Top 3
Wow, you REALLY need to play more video games if you consider THIS hot mess the "best".
This the only dbz game I had as a kid, I'm ready for sparking zero
i remember that i couldn’t beat omega shenron bc we were supposed to win him with gogeta in one minute. i tried a lot and finally finished it and felt like the best game in the world
Dont come for Pikkon, he is cool and nice addition. Getting rid of The Great Saiyamen should've been done. As for the other 3. You honestly dont want to play them, you just want to live out your Vegeta fanboy fantasies
Correct, and this is the correct way to play all DBZ games.
@@evprince Pikkon is actually a quite good character in competitive too. His super attacks both rush into opponents and have very odd hitboxes which deal multiple hits. His hyper tornado also protects him from behind as well.
@@glitchhunter09Last I checked he was top two though it has been a while and I know GT Vegeta had been raising.
Saiyaman > Pikkon
Sorry, but facts
I love zabon the beautiful 😅 and his pink tank friend. 19 was awesome 👍🏾 his my favorite andird.. 🤣 cyrbo... Metal man. Ok, I have to go to bed. My spelling is getting super questionable. Not even auto correct can help it now
6:30 It's called building character.
I remember playing this game when I was a kid and I basically played at Normal difficulty and I didn’t know how to use items, I’m honestly surprised I even completed this game completely🐝
Probably my most played Dragon Ball game after FighterZ, coming back to Budokai 3 after playing IW is so hard since the gameplay is easily the best and most dynamic in the series. With bean clashes and more content it would be perfection.
What annoys me the most about this game is the fact that they have GT Goku...but only make him go ssj3, giving ssj 4 to regular goku...WHAT??
The way I avoided the crazy Zenni grind was by selecting the final fight between Perfect Cell and SSJ 2 Gohan, setting the difficulty to Z and then *immediately* going into the hyper mode and spamming the 4-bar-cost Super Kamehameha Ultimate and 2 shot Cell.
I'm sure you've been told this countless times but the issues with the voices just stem from lines in the Japanese version being shared since the voices don't sound very different. It happens in many PS2-era Dragon Ball games. Honestly? I think it was just the localization team lacking in their quality checking.
I understand your love for Zarbon, Dodoria and Android 19, but must you use that as an opportunity to crap on Saiyaman every single time you mention them?
At this point I do it because it's a running joke lol
You sounded a litlle whiny. Its true this is no perfect game, but i personally cant go back to Budokai 3 after this one.
As for cell. In the anime his voice doesnt change in Japanese so they only give cell one voice, so the NA release only has one voice slot for cell.
Burst limit was honestly fire.
That's an odd way to spell "irredeemable trash"
I think if it had beam struggle and a better fatigue system, I would have been ok with all the other changes to the fight mechanics. And it’s immersion breaking to realize the cutscenes were pre-rendered, disadvantageous with people who emulates this for larger resolutions, as shown here. But still, I wished I picked up this game when I did. I was so thrilled when the trailers showed all those mini games. Content wise, this seems to be the DBZ Budokai 3 they’ve always wanted to make. Wish they’d sell this on the PS store but the soundtrack would sadly have to be replaced. I also love the main theme for this game, sung by the OG Hironobu Kageyama. Still have to import that cd single!
just a side note on the fatigue/stun mechanism it's supposed to mirror the stun mechanic in older fighting games. (not everyone liked them but that's 1000% fair ) but they should only be happening 2-3 times a match. at MOST . basic square/triangle x4 into special combos do about 70% of a life bar. doing that about 3 times gets you a stun. that's about 2 life bars, the stun give you another free combo so another 70%. even more so if you level up special moves. similar thing with the ai being "crazy". if you're aggressive and do decent combos they don't have time to charge and spam teleport or aura burn.
oh and the reason stuns existed was so players who didn't know who to use a super had a chance to land them. (also doing like 1-2 hp bars on hit)
Imagine a Dragon Ball game that tells the story of Dragon Ball via mini games
My biggest problem with the game is that it doesnt have Tournament mode like Budokai 3 and Budokai 2 had. Having a tournament mode is important to have in every dbz fighting game
I like this game I did not play the PS3 dragon ball game so PS2 dragon ball game I own
Man If You Have PC You Should Def Try them On the Emulator
This had 3 times the content of bust limit. I literally wanted this on my Xbox 360 lol
Man I wish they spent their resources doing just ONE game for the PS3 that ended up being the best of both Infinite World and Burst Limit
I can’t be the only one who noticed the rise of early 2000s and early 2010s dragon ball games video games just proves 2000s nostalgia is up next let’s go to me infinite was fucking awesome the 2000s were peak
I really hope for a Budokai reboot, if Tenkaichi is getting one.
Still cant believe I never played this
Might be worth your time if the mini games interest you!
I love this Dragon Ball Z game!
Great video
I think they removed beam struggles because of what it did to hands and controllers. 🤣🤣🤣 Lord knows my hands got tired and we broke several controllers.
This was the only game that gave Vegeta his GT outfit if i remember
GT vegeta is actually a separate character and in competitive, he's top tier and one of the only hard counters to yamcha. (yes, yamcha is S+ Tier in Infinite World)
I remember playing this game when I was 11 and thinking it was hard, later thinking maybe I was just bad. Glad to know nah this game was just hard. Still beat it though, (probably on easy though).
Your takes on characters is so dumb bro, why would they give up good roster spots for android 19?? People actually like Pikkon and Great Saiyaman...
Some people didn't watch Vegeta achieve Super Saiyan growing up and it shows
My thoughts exactly about this game. I still prefer Budokai 3. Thank you for the video and work as well.

I played this game when I was like 12 yo, and I played through all Dragon Mission without knowing you can increase your health bar or use recovery items, yes it was painful, but I did enjoyed the game a lot, I was stuck for a lot of time with Cell and Kid Buu and eventually with Omega Shenron, and I was just playing in normal difficulty, I never played Budokai 3 or previous games before so I never had problems with the mechanics (I played Tenkaichi games tho), actually when I played Budokai 3 for the first time later I didn't like it lmao.
Infinte world has the best combat system in the mainline games
It feels like you basically never learned the game as you did not go over most of the massive gameplay additions especially Aura Dash and Aura Blocking which fundamentally change the gameplay
Aura Burst secretly sucks since it is really hard to actually get close to someone aura dashing away and it uses up all your meter which is a death sentence because damage is high and outside ki charging it is hard to build meter defensively.
Aura Dash actually gives you an option to get away from opponents as Budokai historically has poor backwards mobility often making fights into a square up situation till someone gets knock away. Also let's you approach easier or dodge attacks and get to the enemies back for bonus damage.
Aura block let's you block unblockable attack like Ults and physical death moves that were unblockable in three.
Fatigue promotes aggression not defensive play, it is never worth being on the defensive in Infinite World unless you are a character like GT Vegeta who as one of the best guard point moves in the game.
Characters became more unique moveset wise like Goku who gained new heavy attacks and strings that made him not just an inferior Cell and gave him an identity of a gap closing rush down.
The Ai is only hard because people got through the first three games never learning the game at a basic level as you can get through them spamming death moves and punches into beams
Beam struggles is not a big deal because using beams outside combos is pointless due to Aura Guard and Aura dashing
Doderia and 19 aren't in the game because outside of being the victims for Vegeta great moments are unpopular and useless in terms of moveset potential
The great Saiyaman and woman are Basically cheap asset reuse. They kind of suck but are mostly cheap padding
Basically if you learn how to cancel and juggle most of your issues with the AI disappear
Fatigue does suck through but mostly because it allows TODs
The game did need better tutorials especially and combos and pressure so I can understand why most people struggle
Also world tournament sucked, it pay out poorly for the effort and ring outs were bull crap. Dragon Road was much more interesting and rewarding
This game could have been a good Budokai 4, but its flawed because it was crunched. Definitely had its issues being unbalanced but it had the right ideas in what it was doing. To bring Shin Budokai's smoother gameplay to console fill out GT from what B3 lacked, remove the overspammed hypermode, and combine the most remembered things of all the Budokais into one game, turned the B2 RTS into just the overworld map, etc.
IW was not a bad game. Like Shin and Burst Limit, it was a lot smoother to play for sure, they fixed the bad capsule tray system and made it more efficient etc. I wish we had a true Budokai 4 from Dims or a Budokai reboot, like what Sparking Zero is to Tenkaichi/Sparking.
They need to one day Bring Back Budokai.
As mentioned in other comments, the inconsistencies in Goku and Cell's voices in these early Dragon Ball games are due to the multiple voices they have in Dub. In Japanese, they both have one consistent voice throughout all forms, but in dub, Cell's voice actor changes the voice he does for each form. Sean Schemal does something similar for Goku, giving each transformation a unique inflection, and that stacks with Kid/GT Goku having a different VA altogether. This means lines can get flubbed and assigned to the wrong form, or certain minor lines and grunts of pain will get recorded for one form and reused across all of them.
Nozawa also gives Goku different inflections based on Goku's form, and plays him pretty different between kid and adult. And while it's true that Wakamoto's Cell voice is less drastically different than Clarke's, he does still play each form a differently; Imperfect makes a lot of weird and gross sounds, Semi-Perfect tones these down but still has them, and Perfect Cell largely sounds normal. I guess the difference is that Clarke gives Cell three different voices, while Wakamoto flavors Cell's voice with different quirks depending on the form. It does result in Cell sounding more consistent in JP in these games, but it still isn't perfect. Goku suffers from the same issues in both languages, unfortunately.
@supercrownjosie7732 Okay, thank you for the extra information. I tend to watch/play Dragon Ball in dub more often, so I'm a lot less familiar with the intricacies of the JP cast's deliveries compared to the Dub cast.
This was one of the hardest games I’ve ever played lol
Are you going to review Super Dragon Ball Z?
That is the only game left to be released on the PS2.
I'm going to look really stupid when my "every dragonball z ps2" video comes out and that's not on it...
This comment just revealed the existence of this game to me, and I am now scrambling to re-edit my compilation video to include it.
Dont get me started on difficulty! Where i was able to cheese characters by using Teen Gohan and charging and going in to aura burn then spamming super Kamehameha, Frieza also deathballed me 6 times before i died
The only mechanic that I don't like in IW is Aura Burning. B3's AI already abuses and spam Hyper Mode but atleast they get fatigue once it wears out this is just Hyper Mode without the downside.
Is hyper mode Dragon Rush? I hate Dragon Rush!
@@titus6573 No, Hyper Mode is where you go red and gain Hyper Armor. However it is what initates the Ultimates and Dragon Rush.
It's a shame Dimps made this and Burst Limit at the same time instead of just making one new game for both gens; The result is neither game is very good, and certainly a step down from B3 and, my GOAT, B2. Burst Limit suffers from a similar unfulfilled ambition, so if you haven't checked it out, I recommend it as a companion to this video. After playing Burst Limit, you'll see why Bamco chose to go back to Spike for their future annual DBZ releases.
I wasted money on this game. Knowing nothing about it. Feel like I never recovered financially 🤣
One of the biggest regrets of my teenage years
6:41 piccolo the troll :)
Tbis game focusing on dragonball with kid goku would have ben way better then what we got. They neevr did do kid goku in budoaki
Aside from Budokai 3
@@EWOODJ i mean the whole game with story mode
The PSP budokai games also have a mish mash of mechanics but work pretty good
i didn't feel it was too difficult i actually enjoyed it at z defficulty and i've played this year again and i still have the same opinion it's so enjoyable being hard maybe that has something to do with me being a fighting games player
Wait did you miss the PSP titles?!?
They need a retrospectives
Play the Budokai 4 mod for PC. It's a this game done right.
I hated the mini games. I want to fight in my fighting games 😑 the only part that was hard for my.. was the final battle with kid buu. I had to turned off z difficulty & put it on normal. God Lord, kid buu was crazy hard. I didn't notice how hard the game was because I played part 3 like crazy. Like an ungodly amount. So I never noticed it. I really need to replay this one. It's been since it first came out.
7:05 is that a dbl reference 💀
No body can beat me when I'm super 17 🗣️💦
I know you said zarbon, dodoria, and android 19 were vegetas best fight, but i think you forgot about cui😂.
And Jeice. His takedown of the Ginyu Force is legendary
I sorta remember Budokai 4
12 year old me is def top percent in Infinite World. Beat the entire game not using items
