After hearing this song, whenever I watch Steven Universe, all I can think about is the fact that Spinel is still standing in that garden. Like nobody knows shes there and they carry on with their lives, while shes been waiting in the exact same spot for 6000 years, waiting for someone who doesnt even exist anymore :c

Being in an abusive or unhealthy relationship and thinking it's wrong because of you, because you're broken or cuz you're not doing enough. If you're in that situation, I hope you find the help you deserve.
Exactly. That line with the look of slight confusion just hits different. Honestly spinel’s character and her songs overall moves me. Love the animators and especially the voice of spinel for this masterpiece.
What's even worse is that there were probably times where Spinel thought "maybe she isn't coming back, maybe I should leave" but never did because she wanted to be loyal and she clung onto hope, thinking that pink might come back. She's been emotionally scarred, has a fear of abandonment and has trust issues. I know at the end that she shouldn't have expected Steven to be her friend especially when he so many people to check on but Steven also never took into account how upset she still was and how he is basically pink diamond, her old friend, the same friend that abandoned her all those years ago to rot in a garden. I think he should've introduced her to the others, let them have a formal greeting and letting them know that she's no longer mad at them, helped her make friends. At least everything went alright in the end. Of course I still feel so bad for my smol bean Steven cause then had to deal with the PTSD of that.

She also had hurt her original family deeply by making them believe she was murdered, and to top it all off, dumps every last bit of it on her son,leaving him or her to deal with it all as well as the expectations, as well as not even taking the time to try and ease her gems into the idea of her having a child and her leaving because of it. Need I even begin with the corrupted gems and her court?
This song makes me tear up every time. Fucking hell, the writers of SU play my heartstrings like a guitar. It really paints Pink Diamond in such a bad light after what she did to Spinel. Being so heartless and cruel to leave her alone for thousands of years and not returning. But I think what everyone’s forgetting is that while Pink wasn’t a good person, neither was the rest of the diamonds. She was raised in a world where other gems were dispensable, lower beings meant only to serve her. Toys, basically. She didn’t really learn empathy and how gems can change until she became Rose Quartz. Another thing to remember is that people who are like Spinel, all play every day, become irritating and annoying over time. You can see it on her face. I know that feeling because that’s how children are like to me. I’ll enjoy playing with them a little bit, but when I’m done they’re not. They don’t understand that I’m done playing and keep coming back for more, which pushes me further away. And all Pink sees is a toy that doesn’t know when playtime is over, a toy that the other diamonds created to keep her far away and under control. Eventually she understands why Spinel was created, so it makes playing with her all the less enjoyable. While it was wrong to leave her alone in the garden for so long, Pink didn’t understand. She was, mentally, a child. Everything about her, from her design to her personality at the time, was childish. She couldn’t understand because, at the time, she had no capacity for empathy. And she couldn’t go back for Spinel by the time she could because the diamonds were pushing her to complete her colony and there was a limited amount of time until the cluster blew up the planet and her colony would be completed. And then she had to destroy the portal connecting Earth to Homeworld (and also Spinel). It is cruel and unjust, but you can’t blame Pink for the way she was raised. If you can forgive Blue and Yellow after what they’ve done to their own subjects before they opened up their eyes, you can do the same for Pink. She had her redemption arc just like Yellow and Blue, we just watched it backwards. Anyways, I’m going to watch the song and cry again.

Steven universe has always been a great storytelling show about trauma, especially steven universe future. Spinel was a great friend and didn't deserve that and pink didn't deserve her nor the good people that she used and abused.
“What’d you do, Pink.” We can talk about how Pink came from a fucked up family. How she endured a massive amount of trauma and came out of it with an extremely flawed view of communication. We can talk about how she tried her damned hardest to break the cycle and be a better person. We can talk about how morally grey of a person she is….but Shark’s line perfectly sums up her character to a T. What did Pink do this time that everyone who survives her has to answer for. It’s tragically beautiful in a sense.

what people need to understand is that we viewed roses story backwards. We were introduced to this amazing leader who lost everything she loved besides her 3 companions and then we began seeing the curtains rise and reveal who she used to be, before she understood how selfish she was. Pink Diamond was naive and was raised in an abusive household and Rose was who she became to overcome that trauma and help others move on with theirs. However, it ultimately lead to Steven inheriting her problems.
I’m pretty sure everyone here say’s that Pink was a monster for leaving Spinel in the garden, but at the time Pink was forming a colony on earth, waiting for the cluster to blow up so it could be completed, I believe that Pink was already agitated that the diamonds gifted her Spinel because she was a playmate, she was made for constantly sticking around with pink to play, and pink eventually decided to leave her because spinel wasn’t wanted from pink, she was just a gift, since pink had the mind of a child, she wanted to do better, she was maturing and eventually gave in and let her pure maturity take over, thus leaving spinel in the garden so she didn’t have to deal with something she didn’t want, although I did cry for spinel, it was also a backstory for her because she was made for fun, she didn’t know that pink didn’t want her, when pink first had her she would always chatter and talk with her but as time went on pink became matured because the diamonds always called her childish, so that’s what I believed happened.
