Yo dude your video totally saved our betta! We set up a hospital tank just like you said and warmed her water just a little using a heat pad and a meat thermometer to monitor the temperature. We put some plants with big leaves in so she could chill and relax too as she was really struggling with her buoyancy. Today she took some huge poops and is back to her old self! We were so worried and panicked a bit but watching your video over and over really helped us figure out what to do. We were told that she'd be fine at room temp but I think when her water was changed it was too cold and triggered the constipation but I'm not sure. We are also going to give her a more varied diet and I just bought a small adjustable heater. Thanks for putting out such an awesomely informative video for all of us noobie fish owners.

I also want to mention that swim bladder can also develop from too low or high of a ph. One particular water change, I made the ph over 7.5 and my betta was really struggling to swim down and stay upright. Once a brought down the ph again, he was swimming normally. So PSA to any betta keepers, if it’s not constipation or disease, it might just be bad water parameters so try that before administering treatment!

I just saved my betta thanks to your video. He is swimming and eating normally for a week now. I am so thankful I came across your treatment. I do think a caught it early enough to help. He was a pretty sick boy but was still eating though not as much. He was darting up to get just enough food to keep him alive because the effort was just too much for him. Now he is all over the tank exploring like normal! Thank you ThankYou for posting such an informative video. If I didn’t find this I don’t know if he would have made it.

Same. My male betta (Igor… or Igs, as we often cal him) just started the distorted swimming this morning. I was concerned about him already given that he is pretty gluttoness with his food because he didn’t wanna eat anything at all yesterday and just stayed in his little house at the bottom of the tank all day. When I woke up this morning I couldn’t find him… he was in his plants at the back of his tank up underneath his filter. I guess he had shoved his self over there so the filter in the plants would hold him down. And because he never goes back there, it took me a little while to find him. Now I have him in a quarantine tank trying to treat him. So I’m trying to get all the information I can right now. He looks so pitiful & I feel so helpless. My husband & I lost our infant daughter back in October 2021 and I bought him 2 wks after she passed away, as I was in desperate need of something to nurture and in a completely defeated & devastating state. So he is literally my lil’ guy… my baby boy. He has to get better. I’m thankful for any advice & for others’ stories so I can do my best to help him recover.🐟❤️‍🩹

Very impormative. I think my betta is suffering from SBD due to water shock or something. it came like it’s already dead. He was lying on his side at the bottom of the cup. I transfered him in a hospital tank, put indian leaves and made the water shallow since he is having a hard time swimming to the top. He is quite okay now. :) thank you! I hope he recovers fast.

@@rb19518 Hi there R, sorry to hear that. :/ It gets better, just keep a close eye on him and use the tips that was recommended in this video. My betta is better now, no more problems; he's enjoying the new plants I got him (which really help, as he was depressed before because there were no plants).
I would say the peas suggestion really helped. Also, the dry pellets you'd get at the fish store (I'd assume) is what caused him to be constipated (emphasis on dry) which is why he had SBD to begin with.
I can't assume that your poor betta is going through the same situation, but I hope he gets better soon. It's really stressful to see your poor baby sad and not knowing how to help them.
(Extra tips: I've been really keen on cleaning up my tanks strictly every 7 days (it not only keeps him happy, but my molly, gourami and corys too) or even earlier, and I also test out the water parameters every now and then to make sure they're up to standard. Also, using carbon as a part of the filtration system helps to keep the nitrates down.)
      I hope this helps!

I've had a betta now for about 2 months and I did a lot of research before I got it so he is in a 10 gallon tank with hides and a heater. I do think he has swim bladder and I'm concerned it is due to either poor diet (he has never been able to eat the pellets, they are always too big for him, plus he's never interested in food that sinks like bloodworms, he's only ever been able to successfully eat betta flakes) or it could be the water quality. I do change the water but I live in an older house and using water test strips everything is within normal parameters except the GH levels, I'm not sure how to fix that issue since the only water access I have is tap water, I do let it sit for about 24-48 hours before I add it to his tank but the GH level is always incredibly high. Do you have any suggestions for foods he could eat besides the flakes and any way to lower the GH in the water? Thank you for all the information you provided!

When I went to the pet store with my sister to get her a fish I saw a beautiful beta with a bloated bottom half. No popped out scales but it looks like he has a bubble inside of him. I decided to get him because I thought maybe I could save him and I might be his best chance. I’m not set up for a fish right now but I got everything and am setting him up a five gallon tank while I keep him in a hospital tank. I just took some of the water out to make it shallower and now I’m trying to decide what to do next. The hospital tank doesn’t have a filter in it but the water perimeters were good and I’ll keep changing the water and checking it every day. I’m hoping it’s something simple that caused it and that it’ll go away. Maybe the stress from the pet shop?

My beta died recently. It was always at the top of the tank and not eating. It seem like it was weak and very thin. The water and temp was normal from the videos I watched. It was with other fish in the tank. It is hard to limit how much the fish would eat since it eats what is fed to the other fish. Should the beta be inter mingled with other fish or in it own tank?

My betta had the distended belly. So we didn’t feed him for a few days and it looks normal now. However, his fins are really discolored, he’s weak and just laying in the bottom of the tank.
I’m afraid to hit him with an antibiotic. I quarantined him and have the water real low. Trying to get the temp up into the high 70’s. There’s some brown around her gills I just noticed. Any advice?

Try Indian Almond leaves! Do some research on how it can help. It helps lower the ph and soften the water and improve the environment for your fish. Plus it’s close to how the natural habitat of bettas. I believe it can help aerate the water too if i am not mistaken. I also would amp up the temperature to 82F. Bettas preffer earmer temperatures but not too warm. So dont go beyond what i suggested. You can go to betta fish forums in the internet as well. Maybe you can get help from other betta enthusiasts ~

I couldn’t leave this suffering Betta at Petco… I’m so new to fish keeping… but how could I turn my back on him??!!! but he def has swim bladder, fin rot, and possibly ick…he was struggling to breathe at the store in that little Dixie cup 😡… got him home in hospital tank with air stone and heater… I did use aquarium salt then a few hrs later I used API Gen Cure. Today his breathing is a lot better, but can barely swim. He can come up for air and he does… water level very low so he can do so… he is not bloated, so I don’t think it’s constipation… any other suggestions??? What about methylene blue??? I have it on hand but not sure about it… thanks 🙏 ❤

Yeahhh I definitely overfed my betta, I'm going to fast him for 3 days. Also, I dont have a filter for the hospital tank, it's a small tank. I just do a 100% water change everyday?

It actually helps to do smaller water changes more often. I've heard to never do full water changes because it can be really stressful on them.

I’m at a loss with my betta. He has been very swollen for over a month but otherwise seems happy (making bubbles in his tank). I tried isolation and fasting and peas but he won’t eat them because they don’t float he he doesn’t look. Not sure what else to try.

HI! new subscriber here... :) quick ? toward the end of the video (18:48) you said re: water to "have your ammonia at zero, your nitrates at zero, you can have your nitrates at 10-20" ???? so is it zero, or 10-20? Having an issue with my buddy Blue (betta) so I would appreciate clarificaiton :) Thanks!

    • @Pharmaquatics

      ammonia 0 ppm
      nitrite 0 ppm
nitrate 10-20 ppm (ideally 0 but can be 10-20 if you have plants)

I currently set up a hospital tank and I'll be fasting it for 3 days then feed it a bit of peas. Also added some indian almond leaves and esha 2000 for treatment. Anything else you recommend i would do?

I have getting some antibiotics, but it is going to arrive in quite a while. Do you have any other recommendations, meds or foods that can help with the bacterial infections? I heard that garlic is a great natural antibiotic, so I’m soaking my fishes pellets in garlic juice.

Hello! So my betta may have this, due to my sleep scheduleI have been feeding him more. I haven’t really thought of this I just thought he was depressed since most of his plants have died I got him a lot more but he’s still laying at the bottom of the tank. He does have a rather large stomach. Also he has a rather large lump at the end of his body where is tail meets, hes almost chewed his tail completely off. Im sorry if this doesn’t make sense im just freaked out!

Lots of information about causes and cures, but little information about how you treated the fish that arrived with the problem. Did you just fast and pea the Betta or did you use any antibiotics or did it clear up on its own????

Just bought a Dumbo Female Betta. Immediately after placing her in aquarium we noticed she had a hard time diving. She'd constantly float back to surface. She settled near the heater and just sat there, tired out.
Came to TH-cam to discover "Swim Bladder Disease". After almost an hour of researching this and convinced this is her problem, I went back to aquarium to remove her. Low and behold! She was swimming perfectly fine! Looked around tank and found a huge turd floating around. Since the tank was perfectly clean when I put her in, I'm going to assume she warmed up which help her drop her load. Monitored her for hours and can't tell she ever had those symptoms. Strange, but I'm glad she's fine now.

My platy fish has possible SBD. When she stops trying to swim up she will sink. I did put her in a quarantaine tank with a low waterlevel. Do I need to fill the tank completely and add a small filter or do I need to do watertherapy? Switching waterlevels every 30 minutes 3 times a day?

I over fed my betta 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have a question I have them in a small but long plastic tote for my betta I have cat and dogs so I love the 5 gallon portrait tank because it isolates the cat hair and dog hair from the water and I sealed the lid of the tote hospital so they won’t bother the fish and no hair or dirt will get into the water. So my question is is it ok to keep the lid on the isolation tote. I will be fasting my beta for 3 days as well and I will do 100% water changes for the 3 days. I’m just worried that they won’t get the proper oxygen or would it be ok for the few days he’s in there?
