I used my net to bag some fish from Little Neck Bay in Queens NY. within a span of 30 minutes of arriving home, half the batch had died. My plan was to. assimilate them into my fresh water goldfish tank. To my surprise, they did quite well. They were much smaller than the 3 inch goldfish. However, this breed proved to be more evasive. I believe had the numbers been increased, they would have survived.

For those who are concerned about feeling sad when a fish is sick or dies - don't. We grieve every fish we lose in the same way we grieve our other pets. A fish is a living creature, and every life is unique and important - no matter how small. xx 🥰

My Betta Jim died today. He was very sick. He was the most playful, lovely, beautiful I've had so far. So smart and full of personality. My mom doesn't understand why I'm this upset about his death, but he was so much more than just a fish to me. He was my pet, and a good one at that. I haven't been able to stop crying since, he was such a big part of my heart.

I liked it so much I went ahead and printed it out. Fin biting is a terrible scourge and it invites infection into our betta.

I feel your pain. My Betta just died from old age. It started with him being unable to see his food properly and he was missing it when lunging for it.
After that his appetite started to fade and it eventually stopped; he lay on the bottom of the tank for days, moving a tiny bit every now and again, and then he just… stopped.
    RIP Sunny. Daddy loves you.

I'm sorry to hear about Soundwave, too. I've been watching him on other videos and thought he was still alive. I found this one because my Jake suddenly is listless at the bottom of the tank. He's been very active all week because I introduced some new rasboras. But they've all settled in well together, and the newbies were quarantined and medicated by both my lfs and here at home, so I don't think they brought in anything. Nevertheless, I just pulled Jake out in to a salted quarantine tank with meds, so hopefully he'll recover. He had enough in him to put up a good chase! He's 2.5 years old and I'm hoping he has a couple more years in him.

I just lost my two first bettas two weeks apart. I was new to fishkeeping but had been researching bettas for about two years. I got them from a big box grocery store on a whim because they were in really, really poor condition. I didn’t expect them to live through the weekend but put both in 5.5 gal tanks and kept them as healthy as I could. I decided to give one a bigger home and set up a 10 gal. It was such a stupid move. It put him in too much stress and I lost him the next day. Two weeks later, to the day, the other betta died in rapid decline. They’d only been with me six months, but I’m fairly certain they were about a year old when I got them. I’ve been a pet person my whole life and usually am very good with losing pets but I am devastated. I keep playing over my mistakes. I have new guy we got after the first fish died (don’t worry, I made sure the tank was healthy and safe for him) but I’m waiting before getting a second. Has anyone else really struggled losing bettas? I feel heartbroken.

I can feel how heavy and sad that was to give him such a wonderful life and comfortable death. My son’s betta, Cloudy, by default became my betta. He lived his last years in my planted 20g community tank. He was a joy to see how docile a betta can be and live with school fish and shrimp and snails. I euthanized him as well when he could no longer swim upright and lost his ability to eat which was his greatest joy haha. Bettas a wonderful puppy fish who enrich our lives more than we do theirs.

My beta fish Patrick just died. I watched this video to get an idea as to why and I’m glad that I did. I’m so sorry about your beta fish that died. I did not expect to be so upset and I want to learn as much as I can to prevent having another fish die like Patrick. Thank you for this video.

I’m so sorry for your loss😭. It sucks when a pet crosses the rainbow bridge. When my first betta fish Charles passed away I cried for hours. He was the first fish I did my research on and raised him and lived a good life he was such a good boy 😭😭.

Aww. Soundwave is who drew me in to your channel (he's my hubby's favorite transformer). Thank you for sharing him with us. He didn't just teach you, he taught so many by being the star of your videos. My betta, Mister Frisbee thanks him. I am able to take such better care of him because of what you taught me with Soundwave. Thank you Soundwave!!!!

I am glad I found your channel, you are SOOO helpful!! We received a rescue betta that was in a bad home where he wasn't cared for. He is our first betta and we are learning as we go. Sadly he has dropsy (we think) as he is bloated. Now we are frantically treating him... Thank you for all your tips you are such a help!!! I am so sorry to hear that you lost your sweet soundwave. He was beautiful!! You gave him a great life, for sure. 💕🦐🐟🐌🐚

I'm so sorry for your loss! My boyfriend just lost his betta. He only had him for three months. I think it was columnaris. He was tired and I thought maybe it was from overfeeding, so we fasted him for a day, and the next day his gills were puffy and he was sitting at the surface on some leaves. he eventually passed that day. I know now that I need to keep some meds on hand in case something like this happens again to our other tanks.

I had a Beta fish that was so loving and smart . He gotten or helped a great deal with my mom passing .when I would be crying abut my mom Henry is his name , Henry would make me laugh with his crazy antics and he loved people and he got along with every fish it was amazing if you watch him he was just kinda human like , he hung around the guppies then go hang around Dwarf Gourmias , then he have fun dodging the Glow. Shark would nudge if your in his territory .He was a awesome little guy that did a special thing helped thru my moms death . The thing I’m so upset about he was young just starting to live and oh how I wish he could have he saved me my life .

I think the same happened to my beta fish. He was sluggish for over a month, always at the bottom of the tank, only coming up for a feed, but struggling, as he seemed to have no strength to stay afloat and would always drop to the bottom of the tank. I had other fish who saw he wouldn’t make it and started picking at his tail, fins and eyes. I separated him from the tank to see if he would recover somewhat and spare him being eaten alive, but no joy. He died within the hour.

My heart can not take getting attached and then dead anymore. I was extreamly attached to little peachey, she was the cutest and sweetest little girl, she even let u pet her.
RIP Peachey. I miss u already.

Your blue betta looks just like my betta before he got fin rot. :( I was a begginer and caught it very late. He has been living a year with this disease but I tried maracyn, ich x and salt. Ever since the salt he almost lost is whole fin and is really lazy and hasnt eaten much. He has been hiding the WHOLE day and im really worried about him. I hope he gets better
It also seems that every time I medicate him he gets worse.

I had a tank crash 1.5 years back. Just some neon tetra's. Lost all of them in 2 days. Did not expect to impact me as much as it did. Took me out the hobby for a while.
Now i have some tetras and one betta. For the last week he has barely been eating and just laying still. Yesterday i noticed some black and damaged spots on his tail. Colours are fading as well. Got out another tank and rushing to make a quarantine tank for him.
