    After President Kennedy was assassinated, she sang this at the Met and I was there. It was one of the most moving musical experiences I ever had; it was as if Heaven had opened up and we were allowed to hear an angel sing.

    Leontyne Price - undeniably one of the best voices of her generation....but for me, she had the best eyes in the business! You look into her eyes and see the face of God - while hearing His voice. An almost inhuman combination.

    Ce précieux quatuor soliste est l’un des meilleurs de toute la discographie. Ô chance inouïe d’avoir un tel témoignage de leur art lors qu’ils étaient tous jeunes et beaux et avec leur voix au zénith. Ne vous contentez pas d’écouter que la Price, tout le DVD est superbe.

      Oui, je crois que ce Requiem de Karajan avec, outre la Price, la Cossotto, un tout jeune Pavarotti, Ghiaurov, choeurs et orchestre de la Scala temple incontesté du lyrique dans les années 50/70, est parmi les meilleurs des très nombreux enregistrements de cette oeuvre, avec celui de De Sabata (Tebaldi, Rankin, Prandelli, Rossi-Lemeni) et de Giulini (Schwartzkopf, Luchetti). A noter la remarquable maestria de Price qui chante sans partition (ainsi que la Cossotto) avec une totale assurance et beaucoup d’élégance. Chapeau bas!

      I think it's racist to cut to Karajan twice when she is finishing her sections, giving him the credit for her musical genius. Also I dig around TH-cam desperate for live clips of her and all I find is Aida. Aida and Nabucco kind of passed me by as well. Frustrating and wrong!

    • @ashleythorpe7933
      @ashleythorpe7933 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO! Karajan would overshadow her, for sure! Conducting an ensemble THAT SIZE take a massive amount of talent and a lifetime of orchestral study and experience. That's MY humble opinion.

      Jean-Marie, my friend; I've *found* you on this beautiful day!! Our beloved Leontyne is 95, and as far as I know, still going strong. The Queen of Opera is as old as the Queen of the United Kingdom, and both are *glorious!!*
      Tonight, I'm going to listen to every video of Leontyne, that I have not watched before now. It should be an interesting and most excellent pursuit, since people are putting up music, day after day. This is likely to be a multi day birthday celebration 🥳🎉🥳🎉!!
      I trust you are well, and celebrating in your own way. I know that we are only two of many that are celebrating Tyne's 95th. Many, many *very* happy returns of the day, Miss Tyne, our friend!!
