They went to see Zinka Melonov in Trovatore my grandparents favorite soprano at the time. After they got married in 1949 they all moved west in the Bay Area California. And of course they were in heaven with San Francisco Opera. My grandparents retired there and they saw leontyne price I believe in the early sixties. After that it was history. We all flew there in the mid-60s and saw her in Aida. I was 14 my sister was 16. My mom and dad were blown away by her incredible voice. We saw her again and recital in 74 SRO. She was such a lady so beautiful and Regal. Great memories my friend. We saw her again in 85 after she retired from the Opera stage in recital. She was incredible as usual. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Price may be my all time favorite opera singer. She really had the whole package... the voice of course, but also the grace and poise, the acting chops, the musicality, the emotional connection... I could go on and on. She was (and is) simply magnificent.
Thanks goes to my godmother and aunt Muriel and her love of opera. I'm glad she introduced the genre into my life. I appreciate it more now than I did then. Leontyne Price is the only Aida. I remember her voice singing that and those high c's are incredible.
I first heard Leontyne in my dorm room at college in her first season at the Met in “Trovatore.” Despite the limitations of that radio I was thrilled. Her “ D’Amor sull’ ali rose” had me out of breath in tears. I was fortunate enough to hear her sing that role and many others at the Met over the years. I have3 already stipulated that her rendition of the Trovatore Aria be played at my funeral! Peter Podol
From a little boy, I was and still in awe of her sound. In 1975 I Heard her live at Dorothy Chandler. Then I realized that with all of our technology,we can't begin capture the human voice.

I'm very proud of Leotyne Price's journey, determination and perseverance despite how disgusting America's racism towards black people was. It only takes a bit of pride growing into a stronger light enough to repel the darkness of those trying to destroy her spirit and her mission. She makes me also proud to be black. Proud to know the level of greatness one of my own fellowed dark skinned people were that had such a massive impact on the world stages of grace and power of being self acclaimed. her contribution to Opera and the world of classical and vocal musical arts on a historical level is monumental. Thank you Leotyne Price for not giving up on you're dream and continuing you're passion God put you on this earth for. Artistes whose divine gifts are never in dispute. What’s inspiring is their devotion to training and practising to the point that their performances are so effortless…artless yet polished! ♥️
In my dull and impoverished childhood, I had rare opportunity to hear her perform while on tour. When she came to Medford, Oregon, I sat enthralled, listening to her, for two marvelous hours. I had never seen or heard anything like her. I was in tears the whole time, because I had literally never been exposed to such amazing beauty. I was 12. We had two encores... but I could tell she was getting tired. She did a brief third encore, then when finished she bowed slightly to the audience, saying, "And if you want any more, you can sing it yourself!" What an amazing and wonderful woman. 👏
my voice teacher and her were class mate both studied with Mrs Kimball at Julliard me t her after a concert at orchestra hall Chicago very gracious and kind lady !
@@Marcus-xd8ux Callas had an ugly voice and it had a very short shelf life. Ponselle really shouldn't even be compared since her prime was over well before good recordings technology could capture the voice at its peak.

Absolutely not an eccentric opinion. I’m tempted to agree. Sorry to say that Jessye Norman is not nearly on the level of Price, Callas, Ponselle, Steber, Farrell and many others. Faulty technique, surprisingly short peak.
4:12 - 4:16 is a mistake. Not around the country! (USA!) While she was performing (safe) throughout the world, singing in the best houses in Europe, meeting Kings, Queens and Presidents, sleeping in the best hotels and adored by her audience, she was not allowed to use a bathroom or suposed to sleep in a "white" hotel in the country where she was born. O yes... she performed in the White House, ( after paying enough tax). I worship her, she is LOVE ♥
No, no, no. In most states in the North and West segregated accommodations had ended by the late 50s... (We’re still working on discrimination and mistreatment, everywhere!)
Perhaps, perhaps not, but what is definite is that Callas ruined her instrument. In that regard, she was vocally, but a shooting star; brilliant and captivating, but rather brief.
The greatest American soprano of all time.
Wow. She is one beautiful lady and her voice. She's still living, too. Hope she's healthy and happy 😇

What an incredible voice ... a talent for the ages!
My dad loved Leontyne Price. How petty and sad, and racist that Southern TV stations refused to air her Tosca. Their loss. A magnificent voice.
