Interesting talk! Just got the game last week and am super happy with it so far.
Never knew it started out without missions, or not even being cooperative. That seems like such a vital part of the game now.
The guy wasn't kidding, opening the gamebox really does feel like opening a present each time. I'll be honest, the insane production value of this game definitely helped me buy it more on an impulse, despite being 80 euro's. For what you're getting however it would have easily cost more than 150+ euro's with a normal boardgame publisher.
Generally I'm not into miniatures, I prefer quality cardboard on a standy over cheap plastic. And without the handpainted miniatures/mechs I probably wouldn't have bought the game either. Everything in the box now however does seem to complete the game as a whole. To listen to the design process and how it took place was very interesting.
Thank you Riot Games for creating Mechs vs Minions. It's clearly a passion project that has had a lot of love gone into it so here's some love back

As someone who has grown up exclusively playing video games, and only recently falling in love with the tabletop experience, this is super inspiring. Board games didn't evolve into, with the intention of being replaced by, video games. They just branched out in another direction, which would grow independently in their own directions according to their own values, sometimes intermingling again. There's extremely high value in making room for both in your life.

Tabletop games are gamedev we've lost.
It's open for experiments, ultimately cheap and available for everyone, much less biased - and basically not scalable, i.e. not prone to the cold war of technology.

Today I learned I have a stick up my arse about the correct usage of 'versus'.

It was a really good lecture so why does this guy insist on talking as if it was a 9/11 memorial or something? Dude had some good points but oh man how this bugged me out.

Riot Games is like the highest grossing PC game with from what I've read around 1.5 billion (that's 1500 million) revenue per year.
The boardgame market is absolutely nothing compared to that. Mechs vs Minions is currently on the 2nd printing, combined that's 30.000 copies at most. Maybe they make 0.5 mil or something although considering the quality I honestly wouldn't be surprised they're selling at break-even or a loss.
Your "they do it for the money" comment probably wasn't that serious, or if it was I doubt you've seen the game for real. There are many times in life where you'll have to be careful with people wanting to take your money and charging too much. This ain't one of those times.
