Thank you so much for watching everyone! After my first roll came back out of focus, this simple test roll we shot in this video confirmed everything was working. Hoping to do a video soon where we now actually get really creative with the camera, do a bunch of different lighting serious, and make something more in depth than a simple sunset / golden hour / blue hour 45 minute shoot 🤍 Also: scans done by Jack Tashdjian! Link in bio to his instagram, his prices are absolutely wonderful and he is the sweetest ever. Send him your film for scans!!
Looking great! 16mm is really gorgeous. The Canon Scoopic has excellent glass. No matter how cumbersome it is shooting film, the emotional impact of the final result is still unmatched. Can't wait to see more. Best of luck for your future projects.
#1 great little video, it's super fun to see you experimenting and bringing us along #2 I'd love more nitty gritty details about developing and scanning the film, troubleshooting the camera function, how you fixed the pressure plate issue, etc.
My local camera shop used to rent me their Scoopic for $15/day or $25/weekend (Fri-Monday morning). I'd rent it out every weekend and film my own movies with it. I had a friend who worked as a camera assistant who kindly would donate to me short ends from the commercials he was loading mags on. Because the short ends were on mag cores, I would have to wind them by hand in the dark onto daylight spools (twice because otherwise the perfs would be backwards). If I was lucky I'd have maybe 80 feet but each short end was usually closer to 40' or 60'. It took forever. I'd spend entire evenings in the dark winding film in my windowless bathroom with a towel under the door, hoping my roommate didn't come home and suddenly open the door. One time, my local lab ruined an entire weekend's worth of filming by accidentally exposing my film during processing. I didn't have production insurance back in those days, but the lab always cut me a good deal after that incident as long as I kept my mouth shut about their screw-up. Sometimes I miss shooting film, but then I remember all the effort and costs associated with it - and the many sleepless nights hoping a day's filming wasn't accidentally flashed or underexposed or scratched or irradiated or covered in a strand of hair or totally blackened from a stuck shutter blade... and that nostalgic feeling completely disappears.
brooooo this is so sick i need one! i think 16mm is honestly the perfect film. super sick bro hopefully i can get shoot on 16mm one day! sick video dude
what was the lab used for the scans? My personal favorite is the negative space. Nicki has a amazing lasergraphics 6.5K HDR that does great sharp and noise free scans that captures the entire dynamic range of negative and positive films and fantastic rates
Processed by Spectra in LA, and then scanned by jacktashdjian on instagram (link in bio to his IG) his prices are amazing, incredibly high res flat scans.
@@linusandhiscamera Ahh I see! He uses a Blackmagic Cintel, which even in hdr unfortunetly is limited to 2K in 16mm and is really soft, because it crops into the already soft lens and sensor, and plagued with noise and especially fixed pattern noise. The negative space only charges 0.55$/ft for processing + scanning and only 0.25$/ft for 16mm for HDR 6.5K scan out of the Lasergraphic, which has a excellent sensor with great dynamic range with a very sharp lens. I highly recommend you to send a roll to them just test out. It's a lot better then the Cintel
I was using an Original scoopic battery but you can get newly made ones here www.imagingalliance.com/product/canon-scoopic-16-and-16s-1-new-battery-charger/
So you can load film in the light yeah? I guess Ramjet backing will protect film from getting exposed??? What a great looking camera! I want one now! I really like the results! AND it is a great to see out fellow AUSSie is doing well!
Those are daylight spools, so you can load them up in daylight. They are tightly wound on the spool and you tend to advance to 0ft before you start shooting so most of the exposed part has gone onto the take up spool and you’re then shooting on the non exposed parts. But that is why you get the red flickers at the start
I had Spectra film lab develop the film, and then I have jacktashdjian on instagram scan! (link in bio to his IG) his prices are amazing, incredibly high res flat scans
I had one and back in the 80's I shot a lot a B-roll for Music Videos I shot. In fact, on a couple of occasions I gave it the artist (debbie gibson/jon bon jovi) to shoot their own POV. Great camera. Wish I still had it sitting on the self just for memories sake. Finally, you can do single frame by just clicking the shutter. I did a lot of moving time lapse shots. Shot a lot of B-roll on this video: th-cam.com/video/SRvCvsRp5ho/w-d-xo.html
400 foot mag cameras need to be loaded in the dark. This is an 100 foot mag camera - which takes daylight spools! You can load these outside of a dark bag in subdued light settings :)
@ definitely more of a *field camera*. can’t change out the lens, short mag, no crystal sync or way to do audio. it’s build for documentary work and smaller projects, while an arriflex would have been used for a real move
@@marekveselythe reason this roll had light leaks at the start was mainly from the roll having already been put in another camera, taken out, and then put in this one. usually when i load daylight spools directly from a new box light leaks at the start are much more minimal
They're not ugly, they give special character to the video, and it makes film stand out more in modern days where if it was cropped it woudl look like altered digital, and only ones who know would understand that it's film
I have a physical light meter! However, my phone light meter has been just as accurate for non-strobe and flash metering purposes for the 6 years i’ve used it. I welcome you to take a look at my portfolio on either my website or instagram to see my work made and metered using this app on my phone, which has allowed me to carry one less device and focus more on photography in the moment. I’ve shot thousands of rolls metered with the app, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Have a good one!
I tried doing movies for wedding with 16mm and Super 8mm in the early 1970s and again in the mid 80s with the then new Sony Hi-8 video tape format editing to a high-end Beta Max. In both cases the editing was the show stopper. My next attempt at video was in 2012 when I decided to buy the 1080p iPad3 to both shoot and edit on the fly with using the $5 app iMovie. I was totally blown away by the IQ, AE, AF, auto WB and even the audio from the built in mics and the feedback from viewers when they were uploaded to TH-cam. It caused me to stop shooting and editing stills with my DSLR when it came time to upgrade in 2018 I did so with a iPad Pro3 12.9" and new Xr phone an used that combo for hundreds of videos on TH-cam until switching last year to a Canon R6mkII for stills and videos with longer lenses editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio. I was a lab tech at National Geographic in the mid-1970s and did Zone System B&W from 1971 - 1990 I can understand the attraction of shooting with the old gear and for the sake of nostalgia but I'm happy it is a distant memory for me.
Cool stuff, but for me just showing a beautiful girl is such a copout. To find the beauty in the unexpected or elevate it is more inspiring, but knowing you this will surely happen. Looking very forward to the next steps of your journey. Looking at your previous work there is no doubt it will result in some awesome imagery.
Wow that camera is like a time machine! You are instantly transported to the past when you look at the footage! 🤩 So cool dude 👍😃 so how expensive is a role of 16mm film now a day? And mow much is developing it? 😬🥲

makes good memories tho !
The side by side is magic 😭❤️ I audibly sighed and said wow haha great work
hahaha thank you!!
notification gang! Scoopic's a beast but those eBay prices are insane
Yeah it's crazy how much they cost. I got mine in LA from an old documentarian that wanted it to be used.
@@linusandhiscamera It went to a great home that's for sure!
Film handles hard lights like a champ ! Thanks so much for this video Linus ;)
of course!! more sooon
I loved the final result, it’s like taking pictures that move and tell longer stories amazing!
Love the look of 16mm film.
I've been looking forward to this video! Great footage! Hope you're staying safe with the wild fires dude!
So fire 16mm looks like butter smooth first hd 1080p camera for me. Nice stuff Linus like always
Yo welcome back man, really enjoyed your videos hope you keep making them
i'm back!! enjoying making them and everything
beautiful. the colors are so nostalgic. love your real time simple yet creative ideas!
thank you so much!!!
Your videos are so calm and relaxing, thank you bro!
Yesss I’ve been hoping for a video of this 16mm camera when I saw it on your Instagram stories
took me a while to get it out, but glad it's here
Meilleur vidéo internet au monde, t'es vraiment le meilleur photographe au monde, t'es le plus beau ♥

Wow I love it the result is amazing 🎥✌️

I saw your pictures from the Golden Globes, well done.
Awesome video! Beautiful footage. Now you’re making me add stuff to my eBay watchlist. Lol! 🎥 🎞 🍿🔥🔥🔥
beautiful shots mate! 👏🏼Inspired me to dust off my K-3 🎥

Incredible
love this
thanks cooper!
can you do a double exposure in video with film 😮💨
you can, depending on the camera and if it has the ability to roll back or rewind the film you've already shot. I've seen it done before
Hey linus! Awesome images! Does this camera have a diopter on the viewfinder? I was considering euther this one or a modified Krasnogorsk III
scoopics have a diopter!
damn that looks so freakin good dude
the vibes are vibing
Love that. I would love to try one in some future, but probably the nearest lab that can scan it for me is in different country 🙈😂
FPP may be able to do it and they are in the US.
So nice brotha !
Curious, did you use a warming filter over the lens or balance the tungsten in post?
just balanced it in post! flat scans make it so easy.
Love and praying for you 🫡
Very cool footage. I have one lying around for years. The battery is dead and I never came around to fix it.

where do you develop your 16mm film at?
what light did you use for the dusk scenes by the car??
aputure 120dii! I use it for on location stuff since it has a V mount battery plate, as my 300c does not
hey linus, what app was that at 10:24 ?

my light meter pro!
gold
cool!
Nice test shots. Do you have the lab digitize the film? or do you do that yourself?
I had Spectra film lab develop the film, and then I have jacktashdjian on instagram scan! (link in bio to his IG) his prices are amazing, incredibly high res flat scans
Love the color of these shots! How did you meter the film? Did you push the 500T in development?
it was all box speed! metered using my light meter pro and some help from my friend Eric
is the focus auto focus or do you have to control the focus manually? Thank you!
manual focus!

everyone who shoots 8mm or 16 never crops in to remove ugly frame borders? and every 16mm camera has light leaks?
It's more likely that the first few frames on the cartridge are already somewhat exposed.
