As a former PM, scope creep was my nightmare! I wish I had had these tips back then. So useful! Liked and subscribed for the algorithm. Best of luck with your channel!
During my corporate years, I would build Excel spreadsheets to help hold everyone accountable. It was the best way to know if things were moving outside the agenda. If only I had the wonderful tools available today! Forms are a great way to manage this, as well.
Forms and spreadsheet, well documentation in general is a must for PM's. How every you manage it, documentation is essential. Thanks for watching and hope you and Russ are staying well, cheers!
“Great video on scope creep! The explanation of how minor changes can lead to significant project delays and budget overruns was eye-opening. The tips on setting clear project boundaries and maintaining strict change control processes are very useful. Thank you for the valuable insights!”😊
Great tips for managing scope creep. Love change control. It is so true that when people have to go through the process of filling a for providing info about the importance and benefits of the addition to the scope, it amazingly seems not as important any more.
The change control is a great way to manage scope creep. It really forces the individual to reflect on whether the change will benefit, or hinder the success of the project. Thanks for watching, cheers!
My favourite is to have a CCB set at the start of the project clearly stating that any scope creep shall be decided in CCB where supplier will give a revised quote..also the scope formally signed off by all required stakeholders
Here's what usually happens. SVP Ignatz Mauss who has never been on a call or in a meeting shows up and has a "fantastic idea" that needs to be done. Then the underling stakeholders are too scared to say anything and it becomes our problem.
Hi Arsh, thanks for watching! I also have a 45 min webinar that I think will benefit you. In this free training I walk you through the five key items needed on all projects, it's what I call the FAB FIVE FUNDAMENTALS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT. A typical Project Manager's problem in a FP project. Looking for suggestions. Problem Statement- When client increases the scope late in the Development phase, it's likely that only a subset of developers would be required to implement that change. How should the PM charge the customer because the PM will bear resource holding cost of the entire team due to the delay, however he can quote to the customer only the Man Days effort of the involved developers. #FPprojectIssues #ScopeChangeProblems #PMdilemma Suggestions would be highly appreciated!
Hi Manas, it’s a little difficult to answer this question without having full knowledge of all the variables. It really depends on a few things, have all direct and indirect costs been discussed with you client at the onset of the project and built into the project plan. It also depends on your organizations philosophy. Some companies will bill for the time of all the developers even though some may be sitting idle until the addition has been completed. Others will only charge for the developers that will now need to complete the change and eat the cost of those sitting idle. Again it comes down to the company and their philosophy. The most important thing is to make sure that situations like this are discussed with the client at the very beginning, so they know where they stand if they do decide to change the scope so late into the project. Thanks for the question, hope this helps, cheers!
