    I have a coworker who is deaf, and aside from occasionally signing, "You good?" or "OK" I really couldn't communicate with him. Yesterday, after practicing with your 125 Signs from ASL Pt.1, I saw him, and said, "Hi, How are you? Pleased to meet you!" He got the biggest smile on his face! I look forward to learning more so we can truly become friends.

    I work in fast food, and we get deaf people often and your videos have helped me a lot with being able to communicate with them and give them the best customer service. I feel as if ASL should be taught in school. There’s so many deaf people that have to adapt to a hearing world. To me, I don’t think that’s fair. I think the least the hearing person can do is learn a little bit of sign language so they can communicate with those who live that life being accustomed to us instead of the other way around

    Hello Meredith, Some signs can be difficult to see in videos, depending on the angle that the videos were created in. I appreciate that you explain how signs are made because it helps to clarify things. Be well.

    • @LearnHowtoSign
      @LearnHowtoSign  ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Thanks for the tips! What angle do you think would be best?

    • @galetagudar2964
      @galetagudar2964 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Brian has perfect timing on the side angles here. Consider shooting close ups as needed for signs that don't require much thumb movement because they would be easier to see overall than if they were shot from your waist up.

    Been watching your videos, and practicing daily, since March. Love the videos, and how much I am learning. Have set up a whole "learning series" that I go through and practice, every day. Do you like suggestions of topics from your viewers? Not sure if that would just be bothersome, or confuse your planned programming. If not, as a person who works in a legal services profession (and periodically meet/assist hearing impaired individuals), I would love to see a series on signs for legal topics (ie; judge, court, license, law, date of birth, identification, etc;).

      Like your honesty; just started learning @ 72 yrs in a class @ an adult school & realize I have to relax my hand more & trust I can do it; I communicate well with people & make eye contact but there are times when I would love to sign quickly to the random person that is clearly complaining or needs to cause drama with their words; used the no sign with a smile the other day & the reaction I got was a stare that said " the old lady is crazy"; use that sign when my choc lab acts up & scolding her uses up too much energy;

      I'm also autistic and thought the same thing at that part. People "pay attention" differently and not everyone who doesn't look at someone is not paying attention to them.
      The facial expression component of ASL is also very difficult for me (I don't often match my facial expression to what I'm saying even with spoken language) but I'm trying to practice...

      I’m autistic to and what I usually do is pick a spot so close to the eye that the person feels like I’m maintaining eye contact, usually the eyebrow, between the eyes, or the nose. This might not work for you, in fact when I’m especially tired or overwhelmed it doesn’t always work for me either, but I figured I’d share just in case it helps!

    I’m young, and I’m only going to be able to legally get a job in one year. And obviously the most common paths are retail and fast food, so I want to make it easy to communicate smoother with someone who’s deaf in the future! I’m really happy I found this channel, this seems fun to learn!

    My son is unilaterally deaf and uses a cross hearing aid system but in public settings or sports it's super hard.
    So we've been signing a bit, these videos are extremely helpful.

    I'm 14 turning 15 and I've really been interested in asl and I've tried downloading apps and going into websites but all of them you have to pay for, so thank you for providing a place where people can learn sigh free of charge❤😊 please keep making videos❤❤

    As someone who goes non verbal this is so helpful for me to learn! I used to use text speech and I hated it. (Anyone can use it tho if they want just wasn’t what I liked the most)

    I'm learning asl, so that if ever I get to encounter a person who can only communicate thru sign language I will be able to communicate to that person. I hope this lesson will be included in regular school so that our kids will be able to communicate thru asl as well.

    I’m beginning my journey into asl as a hearing person and I’m amazed at how many different dialects there are just in the most common beginner YT videos. Not sure if that’s the right term but the way signs are emphasized, angled, or motioned. It’s to be expected with any language but it’s also a little disconcerting. It feels like I’m getting my English vocab from someone in Boston, someone in Minneapolis, and someone in Baton Rogue. 😨 Hope I don’t wind up signing like a crazy person!

    I work in retail and met a deaf woman today. She was lovely and kind throughout our short interaction. It made me realize that it'd be nice to learn sign language in case I meet her again or someone else. Especially since I work in customer service.
