You might have heard that the remake wasn't made because as the producers were set to pay 25 Million for Carrey's services, they insisted that HIS REAL FACE, not an animated fish that looked like him, be seen throughout the entire film. So they experimented with a real fish getup(similar to what Monty Python did in MEANING OF LIFE), looked at it, recoiled in horror, and cancelled the project!
The author of the book INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET is based on seemed to like the theme of "henpecked" husbands proving themselves in the War. He also wrote MR. WINKLE GOES TO WAR, about an over-age draftee with a domineering Wife who becomes a hero.
You have very good taste. A movie that’s as satisfying as this after all these years is proof of a true classic that will be revered long after the snarky Media Hunter is forgotten!
The annoying commodore that the Captain goes to at first, and who constantly acts like a grumpy old man, has a nameplate on his desk that says he is "P.P. Spewter". An interesting play on words for a wholesome 1964 movie, if you consider what pee pee is a slang for, and what spews it.
7:15 Poseidon must have heard him and decided to grant his wish. 23:59 I like my theory better. Poseidon, God of the Sea, granted his wish because the idea of a human wanting to be a fish was just too amusing to ignore.
This is an old review, I like this movie but the beginning dragged for me, it felt too stereotypical and cliche, as he became a fish that's when things became interesting
Here's an odd bit of trivia. The voice of Lady Fish was done by Elizabeth MacRae who is better known as playing Lou Ann Poovie on Gomer Pyle. Now in a 1st Season episode of Gomer Pyle, there's an episode titled Gomer And The Dragon Lady. In the scene that takes place in front of a movie theater there is a movie poster in the background that is the movie poster for The Incredible Mr. Limpet that has been redressed as a poster for a film titled Ship To Shore. This Is By A Country Mile The Only Good Animated Don Knotts Movie And Last Animation Work By Some Of The Old Animators From Termite Terrace By Now Chuck Jones Was Fired And Friz Freleing And David H. DePatie Left To Start Their Own Studio So The Old Warner Bros. Animation Studio Crew Is Basically A Skeleton Crew And One Of Them Is Vlad Tytla
Chuck Jones went to form his own independent company sib tower 12 productions taking his animation unit with him including animators ken Harris Ben Washam background man, merice noble Tom Ray, ABe Levitow and even Mel Blanc followed him, and even story man, Michael Maltese left Hanna-Barbera to go to sib 12 productions working on Tom and Jerry cartoons before MGM acquired sib tower 12 productions in 1964 and absorbing it into MGM animation visual arts on till MGM shut down the studio in 1970

One of my favorite films. As a kid, I knew this appealed to me. Later I knew. I was on the GQ spectrum.

I don't know, I quite liked this movie. This was one of my health teacher's favorite films, he showed it to us in class.
