15 years and this movie is still my favorite. Glad you are review it. Maybe you can review movies like Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and Book of Life for its 10th Anniversary.
@@thelionalex1Frollo was, strictly speaking, cast into Hell by Notre Dame itself not dragged to Hell by Old Scratch; which would be the equivalent of what happened to Facilier
Dr Facilier is reportedly modeled after Baron Samedi The good witch doctor is also interesting in that unlike other villains, who believe themselves unstoppable, Facilier fully recognizes that he has crippling if not outright fatal weaknesses and has to work around them
This is one of my favorite Disney movies. Keith David was fantastic as the Shadow Man and Jim Cummings, John Goodman, and Oprah Winfrey were fantastic in their roles.
Not only did Keith David show us his amazing singing voice in this movie, but he showed off his singing voice as husk didn’t even change his voice just no need to change his voice. He’s just being himself and his voice that is singing as a wise old bartending cat, who is a bit of a grump and sings one of the best songs as a duet as he relates to a spider who’s down on his luck and it’s really catchy
My brother, I watched saw this movie yesterday and I was like I miss this type of style of Disney with good old traditional hand drawn 2-D animation it has a good animation the story and plot and performances and had one best villain this movie is perfect this is what Disney is missing nowadays
I remember when I first saw advertising for the movie, I was not interested because "girl movie." Then my grandma took me and my cousins to watch it, and I ended up really liking it
About Winnie the Pooh (2011), the reason it failed commercially is because it was purposely sabotaged by Disney by placing it on the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 without any promotion so they can focus on those damn CGI. Projects. Not to mention that they also have to change the name titles of the adaptation of famous girly stories, such as Tangled (Rapunzel) and Frozen (The Snow Queen).
27:12: Pooh 2011 sucks anyways. 27:35: Actually, it’s not racial backlash that’s the problem; it’s because when converting Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, any serious conflict related to the movie (like a possible return of Dr. Facilier) was completely gone, making the drop from the top all the more disappointed.
They also made the ride take place on a salt mine based on Avery Island, where actual slaves worked, and where crops wouldn't grow, and make jokes about it in the queue. I don't think the NAACP even got brought in to criticize it like they did with Splash Mountain. But of course, I can't talk bad about how the ride does The Princess And The Frog dirty without people accusing me of racism, despite being black and having grown up with the brer rabbit stories..
Some things worth noting as a witch, voodoo itself is not inherently evil. Something the movie even showcases through Mama Odie. Another thing that is just interesting is Facilier's use of tarot. Something I learned going into it, is that you need to be vague when reading the future for a damn good reason. Because being too blunt can cause the one being read to overcorrect and make it a fulfilling prophecy if they don't like what you say, basically setting their fate in stone. Facilier is not being vague about anything he says beyond hints to Naveen becoming a frog by saying green instead of money despite showing it on the cards. He is using the decks to actively manipulate them into doing what he wants them to do for his own gain like a true conman. Also your use of the term warlock is correct here. Not because Facilier is a male magic practitioner, but because he's doing all the opposite things that are expected of him. In truth the voodoo gods would likely be very cross with him over what he's doing. And honestly who's to say he's not just worshipping dark creatures in place of the actual deities themselves? Some witches today even think worshipping certain Native American monsters as deities is a good idea(they are not anything of the sort fyi that is a terrible idea), so it wouldn't be too far fetched to think Facilier would do the same thing. That said I know nothing of voodoo or any particularly evil creatures that live in that region(Beyond that Facilier reminds me of Loupe Garou, minus being a werewolf sort of beast.). So I could be wrong on some things being shown. What you guys think?
There’s also his use of "Voodoo Dolls" which, fun fact, are not an actual part of Voodoo but were created by white authors during the 1930s to further vilify the religion; taking the concept of the dolls from European witchcraft.
That said, the leader mask who also serves as the portal to the Other Side is likely Baron Samedi himself, as the Loa Baron of the Dead is reportedly known for committing evil acts and giving power to Bokors (Voodoo Doctors). Facilier dressing in the same clothing that Samedi wears in Mythology also supports this as in Voodoo Magic it is believed that the more you act and look like the Loa you serve, the stronger the connection of power between the two of you will be.
@@Chimeragui Ah, well as I said my knowledge on Voodoo is squat. Nice tidbit though for sure. Still doesn't entirely make sense though. Given that one thing I do know about Voodoo, is that it's a sympathetic magic. Through pain or suffering(non maliciously) you gain favor and aid basically as far as I know. Also aren't the Loa good and kind for the most part? Or am I missing something here? Cus I don't recall any deities in any branch of witchcraft being truly evil necessarily. Beyond our mortal understandings maybe, but evil?
@@UnseelieFaelassFor the most part yes, however, it’s important to understand that all Loa are neither fully good nor fully evil That said, Facilier also uses "Voodoo Dolls" which, fun fact, are not an actual part of Voudoun but were created by white authors during the 1930s to further vilify the religion; taking the concept of the dolls from European witchcraft.
Biggest mistake is making the MC frogs for so long.. pretty sure that was the biggest critique back when it came out. Other than that its grown on me and its def an underrated classic akin to Disneys golden era
I’ve rewatch this movie a lot, to this day Princess and the Frog is still one of my favourite Disney movies despite me having a grudge against it in the 2010’s to 2020’s
Ah, back when Disney still understood the importance of a balanced story, good taste, and subtlety...oh how I missed those days. 😮💨This was the last Disney movie I can genuinely say I was excited to see (and still thoroughly enjoy to this day).
Tiana's problems wasn't because of her ethnicity, but her status. They knew Tiana was black when they agreed to sell her the building. The only reason they later rejected the offer was because someone who offered the full amount showed up.
The movie is good especially the animation, music and the villain BUT the 3 hunters are useless. They aren't funny or interresting plus if you removed them from the movie, it won't change the story. It's the only issue i have with the film, the rest is excellent 🙂
I like movie but now one my I do like eh eye because not heard because under a rock all day. They break my fav ride in Disneyland. And I’m Cali and rest got it open ow where I’m waiting forever. Bet he how suggest this thought of the ride too. Unlike most won’t until video end. Not me I thought at very start. But love character in movie snd ride. Oh ya forgot think there making live action so can’t wait 😑🤔😬😭😶.
A perfect summary for why Tiana and Naveen had one of the best romances in any Disney film: "If I can mince, you can dance."

I wish Eartha Kitt was still alive during the filming of this. She would've been great for Mama Odie
I could see that working. XD I mean, Eartha got a lot of evil roles, but it could have been really good.
Dr. Facilier definitely earned an award for best death. How many Disney villains have you seen get dragged to Hell?
Ahem, Judge Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
@@thelionalex1Frollo was, strictly speaking, cast into Hell by Notre Dame itself not dragged to Hell by Old Scratch; which would be the equivalent of what happened to Facilier
Depends...are we only counting animation? Because if not then Ramsley from the original "Haunted Mansion" movie also got dragged to Hell.

This is a great movie! It’s one of the two movies I regret not watching in theaters. The other being Tangled.

Just in time for the movie’s 15th anniversary! Maybe you could review the book of life for Halloween and that film’s 10th anniversary.

Going Down the Bayou should've been Splash Mountain's new name.
First rule of the bayou: never take directions from a gator.
Despite being marketed as Disney’s first black princess, Tiana is only a human for a few minutes.
and also fun fact: Tiana is the ONLY Disney Princess with a Job.
This is Disney's underrated classic.
Wreck-It Ralph, too.

Usually when animated human turns into the animals, they are more popular when shown in that form. Tiana however is not.
