My Favorite (and Least Favorite) Controllers

- There have been some great controllers throughout the years as well as some stinkers. I'll be going through some of my favorite and least favorite offerings. No niche picks, only mainstream stuff for this video.

A bit of a correction on something
the SixAxis controller and the Dualshock 3 are different controllers. The Sixaxis controller was a shortlived controller at launch that didn't have rumble, but was quickly replaced by the DualShock 3, which brought back rumble. DualShock 3 included sixaxis support as well.
The Dualshock 3 also weighed 40% more than the Sixaxis controller, much closer to the other Dualshock controllers. The biggest difference in the "weighty" feel of the Dualshock 2 vs the Dualshock 3 is the fact that the 3 isn't tethered by a cord like the 2 is, so it feels a bit lighter. But it sounds like you might have had the Sixaxis.
The Dualshock 3 is basically a wireless Dualshock 2 but with some (admittedly weird) triggers.

@@retroreviews_ you weren't wrong for saying DualShock 3 is bad though. despite it being an improvement over the sixaxis I find DualShock 3s to be substantially lower quality than any other Sony controller. the improvements weren't enough and much like the differences between the DualShock 1 and dual analog controller I dont think it makes an impact on my opinion.
This is the kind of TH-cam I live for: Just a guy with a camera talking about things of interest. If we're talking best for its time, I'd go with the SNES controller. Its DNA is in pretty much every controller that came after it. Add some sticks and a couple more shoulder buttons and you've basically got a modern controller. I'm still using mine after 25+ years. I love it~
But if I had to pick a favorite controller, I might actually go with the Series X controller. I'm the biggest Nintendo stan you'll find, but this controller just gets it right for me. It's minor refinements on a winning design, but I must say, it's near flawless. I love its form, its texture, its nice clicky D-pad. I do wish it supported Gyro controls for aiming and such. But yeah, I'm really loving it.

As much as I love the DualSense I really like how sleek the Xbox controller is. Plus all the extra colors and customization you can do with that makes it super enviable. I like that modern controllers are pretty fantastic across the board. No more N64 weirdness 😂

happy 200 subs!! i'm a dualsense fan too, i was nervous to switch when i first got my ps5 but found it more comfortable than most other controllers i've used. i think the sensory input concepts are cool, for example in the Genshin menu screen if you blow on the controller Paimon gets blown away by a gust of wind. that and the touchpad allow for fun little details in games which i really love. i do love the NES but it can be so weird to hold LOL it's just a rectangle but a beloved rectangle nonetheless
Thanks so much! 😁 Oh that's super cool! I love hearing new things the DualSense can do. I wish it was utilized even more. I already feel a bit bad about saying the NES controller isn't great - it's fantastic, just not as good as the SNES imo.

The texture of the Duel shock 4 triggers are HEAVENLY. The 360 triggers were much nicer for racing games tho.
Also! I LOVE sideways joycon! I prefer the blue sideways joycon than the pair or pro controller. At least for smash bros and Mario kart!
Totally agree with the PS4 and 360! Xbox controllers have traditionally been so good for racing games.
Oh good! I'm glad someone likes sideways joycons 😂 I think my hands are just too big.
DualShock 4 is the undisputed apex due to the simple fact the light on it stimulates my primitive ape brain and also makes do as an impromptu flashlight should I drop something in the dark.

The Nyxi Wizard really brings the GameCube controller into the modern Era. I know it's third party but I too love the GameCube controller I made a video on many variations of it 😅

The PlayStation move motion controller is pretty good however it does not work sideways and the navigation controller similar to a nunchuck, but it seems as if Sony has killed the camera tracking technology with the PS5 as the Dualsense controller lacks a lightbar for tracking.
I didn't get to play around with the Move controller, but it looked pretty cool for stuff like Resistance 3. I really like the light bar tracking on the PS4. I randomly got a camera and thought it was the coolest thing. I think Sony just doesn't see the value in motion controls and such.
kinda weird how you dont like the Sega Saturn pad but to each their own I suppose. one small thing about the genesis however is that the six button is not the genesis' original controller. it first launched with a three button controller and the six button came out with the release of street fighter 2 on the system. either way I think the Saturn pad is a vast improvement over both of those personally but ive met people who like the three button controller the most because of the size.
I do have an original Genesis model and the 6 button one - I'm realizing now I never talked about the three button model. I do agree the Saturn pad is better than the Genesis. I think Sega pads just aren't my favorite across the board.

Yeah, that definitely tracks. Triggers were much better for that.
