I think that move has infinite range as long as the drake is aggro'd it'll spawn ontop of you wherever you are. Lmao. I remember seeing a drake and then running and i must've been miles out still hearing the music but no drake in sight and that shit still appeared.
Dude, apparently you didn't know that if you activate the ballista your pawns will actually move it FOR YOU, you can control the direction once they're in position to move it.
You can reposition those kind of ballistae ?!?! I used one on ancient battlegrounds against the dragon and got two shots but he moved and we ran across the walls to other ones but they were static and pointing at the sky, if i knew i could turn them like this... Ultimately the dragon got stuck in the castle and i had to re-load and fight him on the field thou.. :P
Does anything happen regarding the story if you're able to kill it here? Like does Ulrika stay in Melve and the village gets reconstructed? That would be very cool
Nah Ulrika's story stays the same where she goes into Exile and eventually end up the Chief of Harve if you continue the storyline. I will say killing the Dragon seemed to increase her romance path faster. I only had to give her flowers once to get her to the blushing state. Edit: The real benefit of doing this is you get a very strong weapon, and the Mystic Spearhands Ultimate Skill immediately. If this is a New Character, you become very powerful for the first part of the game.
Like he said, the reason to do it is that you get the mystic spearhand meister skill, and immediately get an endgame level weapon for the mystic spearhand.
Theres a few dialogue changes and you get the dead ringer. Spoilers ahead including one of the final missions: In ulrikas quest when she gets banished, she mentions the dragon was killed but the guy says thats not possible as theres only one arisen. When collecting the wyrmslife crystals if you talk to luz on where to find a dragon she says since you already killed the lesser dragon you need to find drakes on your own. And of course you get the dead ringer as previously mentioned here.
No, you just finish Sigurd's quest thing early and get the maister skill. It also maxed Ulrika's affection meter early. You don't get the fun fight with this drake at the Dragonsbreath Tower alongside Sigurd, so I personally put off killing it Killing it early kinda trivializes the game if you want to use Mystic Spearhand, as the weapon it drops is near endgame(there are only 2 better Duoblades which are endgame/postgame weapons).
Gotta progress the main story. If you want to be 100% sure there is a moment in the main quest where the Captain will tell you to check on Melve again. The dragon can trigger before that, but it seems the moment he mentions that it'll always trigger.
The captain will not tell you to check on melve again. That’s false! I triggered this story and the captain didn’t say shit except to go on with other quests. Here’s the only thing you need to do. The first quest from the captain “Monster Culling”. Do that in its entirety. Turn it in. Don’t accept another quest from him (cause idk what that would have done). SLEEP til morning (because it’s dark out). Then go to the front entrance of town and there will be an oxcart and an npc in a red outfit to talk to.
So I finished monster culling, and the disa plot, and when I went to get a ride to Melve someone stopped me to check on their business in melve I accepted his request and took the ride back in melve and I saw this dragon! So that person u may meet near the gates he's wearing red clothes and has white hair.
It only screws you over if you don't talk to Sigurd, and if you don't talk to him here and he's not at Dragonsbreath Tower you can possibly find him at Harve Village.

I shot this Mf like 3 times and 1 times in the air and he still disappeared these dragons are p**** not like the Chad Skyrim dragon they take that L like a champ
Dude same I swear it’s fucking glitches for me or something. Half the time the shots I take don’t even connect with the dragon and otherwise I’ll hit it 5 times and he still flies off
You need to go straight right to the tower the second your cart arrives, calling your pawns to come with you, and when you grab the cocking mechanism for the ballistae, one closesr will ask if you need help. Press 1 and you'll get more angle of fire as though they're manning the other controls.
Last time I tried this on the drake in the ancient battleground and he fuckin sniped me with his lightning summons all the way over in the tower.
Same but i hid like a rat inside the building dodging the lighting, then when the aggro was gone i snipped again and got the kill

The sides control the angle, your Pawns should eventually hop onto the ballista with you and then you have full control.

@harish5724 you get dead ringer even if you don't kill it. Only need to pop it's weak points and the drop is still fairly high.

You have to do enough of Harve village’s quests first.
I tried this when I shoot him he flies away right after the second hit like wtf
Finally got him I bought the house and saved right before coming to the dragon so I can redo super fast
