Last year I went through nearly the exact same headache you're having right now. I replaced all the power steering lines on my old man's 2005 f150 and a small leak occurred that I never got told about... One day he wasn't paying attention a he topped up the steering system with... Wait for it... Here it comes... Dot 3 brake fluid! 🤣 Now lucky me gets to take it all back apart and thoroughly flush the whole system with the right fluid multiple times and hopefully this will be the last time I have to touch that truck for awhile.
I’m going through this with an 03 expedition. I got the clip off. The high pressure line is what’s stuck for me. Really didn’t want to replace the rack
Do you know whether or not the lines along the top of the steering rack are replaceable? I’ve been told by a shop that you must replace the whole steering rack, but I’ve found the lines for sale separately....
I just bought both the short and long line from rockauto because one is leaking. Must be replaceable if they are available online. Find out tomorrow when they arrive and i dive in.
Sighlense well, I spent all day Saturday replacing the line...And it’s so tight under there I can NOT get it all the way screwed in. Thought I had it tight enough, started the truck, steering fluid EVERYWHERE
@@quentinchard6030 you are preaching to the choir. I got the long line (which was the one that leaked) in fairly quickly. The short line was another story. Not only is there very little room to work with, but it is so short that there is basically zero flex to it. Ended up putting the old line back in because the new line (short) was shaped slightly different. Took two days because i had to walk away in frustration about four times. Only reason i changed the short line is because it allowed more room to get to the nut on the long line. You may have stripped the threads. I think i just got lucky. Very rusty under there. The real test will be replacing the return line when the time comes.
@@Sighlense i got mines to unscrew but it feels stuck in the rack do i need to just yank it or what? My small one is leaking super bad and i cant drive till its fixed my part will be here tomorrow
@@puprilla geat name btw. Patience....lots and lots of patience. Spray the shit out of the fittings with seafoam(or whatever you have). Let it sit for a few hours and then then soak it again(i'd give it atleast 24 hours). They screw out...do NOT just yank it. If it started to unscrew you must have it working its way out...just keep working it back and forth until it screws the rest of the way. The small line is a bitch. The new one was just a little off shape so i just put the old one back in. I'll replace it if the need be. Not much room to work in there so frustration will come. Like i said, i had to walk away in frustration about four times before i finally got it to thread in. You'll know when it is in right. Don't force it and strip the threads.
what's the name of that plate that you pulled off, the plate that's held down with the one nut on the rack. nuts on racks lol wish i was in vegas instead of fucking with ford's genius design lol

what about using a screw extractor? also perhaps putting some nickel antiseize on the new assembly may be good preventative maintenance

Thread a lag bolt in and slide hammer it out. I realize that's not possible with the rack in the vehicle but you have it out.

Damn mine came right off. I did soak it in pb blaster a couple days before tho
Weld a bolt to what's left of it. The extreme heating will break the bond.
I also use the GOOD KIND...It's on the shelf beside the NOT SO GOOD KIND.
I’m in the middle of this nightmare now.
FYI the lower line is the high pressure line doing this job now
How do i remove the lines? Mine got a leak i unscrewed it but it won't come out

What size wrench you use for the lines?

it easy job i done it with my 2006 ford f150 xl
You have to let it soak overnight with some good spray for braking bolts. Hit it a few times leave and try in morning comes right out.
