  • The LIMESTONE WAY explores the the Derbyshire Dales also know as the White Peaks of the Peak District. In addition, to the full trail from Castleton to Rocester, I also hiked the link path to Matlock therefore accomplishing 50 miles with circa 6,000 feet of ascent. The hike was spread over three days with two nights of wild camping.

If you get the train to Hope, you can get the bus to Castleton. Saves the walk from Edale.

I did 4 stages of the White Peak Way in 2019 (as part of a 3 month walking holiday). Some of this video reminded me of that, even though there really is only one short part that overlaps. Sadly, I had to cancel another 3 month walking holiday for later this year, and I don't think I'll be able to make it back to the U.K. for any more long distance walking holidays in the future, as I'm moving back to NZ in July and was recently diagnosed with a degenerative back problem that will restrict my ability to do distance and carry weight. I will live vicariously through videos such as these from now on, so thank you.

Hi Ryk, I hope the video did bring back happy memories of your journeys in the English countryside. Interestingly, when I retired my original plan was to visit NZ for hiking but covid scuppered my plans (and everybody else!) and whilst in lockdown the channel became my new plan. Will now never complain about the weight on my back or the miles walked, you will be my constant 'virtual' walking companion. Take Care, Nigel

I imagine the boundary post is something to do with the railway: L and NW Rly (Railway) Co

Yes, since doing the hike I’ve done a bit of research and conclude it must be the London and North Western Railway company, which was one of the biggest in the UK in the late 19th century. Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching.

I’m planning to do this walk very soon. Never wild camped before. Could you tell me what sleep system you use and a rough idea of weight? Great video. Thanks for sharing

Hi Chris, apologies for the short delay in getting back to you. Just back from the Six Dales Trail and had intermitted signal. Limestone Way is a great choice for a first time wild camp and hope all goes well. I've provided a link here } th-cam.com/video/GNH9fRDDcDI/w-d-xo.html of a video I did in 2022 which describes all the contents of my rucksack including the sleep system which hopefully you will find useful. However, the set up is a three season set up and at the moment you are on the cusp of 4th season moving to three season, so if I was going in the next week or two I might add a sleeping bag liner depending on the expected weather. In addition to the video above there is also a playlist I have compiled which you can find on my channel page. This also a video on my winter kit and a fast packing kit which might be of interest. Hope that helps, any further questions drop us a line and I will do my upmost to help. Cheers
